My husband and I come here after a brisk five miler as this shack is located just minutes off the beautiful paint creek trail. THEN you coat them in butter. Did you here me? You deep fry chopped potatoes in a pressure cooker, and then coat them in BUTTER. I grew up with Chicken Shack and it's the standard that I compare all other fried/broasted chicken to. At their best no one even comes close to them in terms of tender, crispy, flavorful chicken. And the Shack potatoes...yum. But here's the rub. At their current price point, they have to be at their best all the time. And this location is definitely not. 1) Size of the pieces seems to vary dramatically. The order I got yesterday, the drumsticks look more like large wing drums or Cornish hen sized than chicken legs. These were the smallest I've ever seen in a restaurant - though not the first time I've thought they were buying chickens too small. 2) the breasts were cooked perfectly. Everything else was over cooked. That's better than a month ago when I had to cook the thighs more before I would dare eat them, but the inconsistency is unacceptable at any price point let alone $26 for 12 pieces of Chicken. 3) the potatoes used to be heaven on a plate. Now it seems that they pre-cook them, reheat them in the fryer leaving them dry or soggy - never just right. And they either forget the butter or skimp on it unless I order extra butter which results in so much that I can feel the heart attack coming with the first bite! Good Chicken Shack is five stars. It's so good that I'll keep trying even when the results are inconsistent, but I can't recommend them today because the odds are that you'll overpay for what you get are high. For me, it's kind of like going to the casino. The occasional payoff is worth the regularly expected disappointment. What a terrible experience at this chicken shack. They took my order wrong by placing an order for a cod filet (1 thin piece of fish) instead of the cod snack I ordered (3 pieces) both for the hefty price of $8.49. Went back in the store to complain. No attempt at resolving issue. Told by female counter staff as she gave order that the sauce was in bottom of bag. Left store mad and just wanted to get home to eat my fish appetizer for $8.49. Opened bag and no tarter sauce. Call store and spoke to "manager" John who offered to give me a credit toward tarter sauce. After going to this store for years and never asking for tarter sauce John informed that it was my responsibility to ask for it and/or check the bag. He said he talked to his boss Jonathan about this. I asked to speak with"Jonathan" but according to John he had just left the store. Rude and disrespectful employees as stated in other yelp comments. Love me some chicken shack!!!! This is by far the best fried chicken I have had in Michigan. There is something about their batter and their pressure fried method that just works so well. I usually get the bites dinner which is very filling, and a side of potatoes which are cooked perfectly. The fried mushrooms are also super tasty. The price is bit on the high side but everything is cooked to order and tastes very fresh so to me it's worth it. The place is small but clean and tends to be a bit on the loud side. The chicken does take some time as it is cooked to order so i would recommend calling ahead even if you are dining in. read more

VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. Ordered 2 Super packages from them for Mother's Day. I ordered them on Saturday for Sunday. To be efficient I paid in advance. When we went to pick them up at the designated time on my receipt, 12:30 pm. They were not ready and we had to wait a half hour for our order. When I ordered I purposely asked if it would be ready at that time as our Mother's Day celebration started at 2:00pm. We didn't leave the Chicken Shack until after 1:00 pm with the food and then had a half hour drive back home, barely getting the food out of the cardboard containers into serving dishes before family arrived to eat. Once I got there, no one would answer the phone to let them know you were here. Found two different workers in parking lot delivering food and each person said "We'll be right out with your order". 20 minutes past pickup time goes by and they come to my car and say they have to start the entire order over again because they didn't SEE MY ORDER ON THE COUNTER. Are you kidding me? Then 10 minutes later they came back out to say they can't even find my order. So 30 minutes has gone by and they hadn't even started my order. I couldn't leave since it had been paid for already online. 45 minutes later I received my $62 order with nothing thrown in for all the inconvenience. Never returning to this location. I have looked over the reviews and it baffles me that people say the quality is poor or the food is burnt when it is asked to be bbq'd. Husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Only one other couple sitting and waiting for their order to come out when we arrived. Food (chicken dinner and tender dinner) was ordered at 3:18 pm and we were told it would be 8 minutes. Got our drinks and sat down. Watched as people came and went with take out orders. Started to get frustrated so asked when our food would be out. Told it would be a few more minutes. Are you freaking kidding me! Food finally came out, at least one of the orders, at 3:50. Was told other order would be a few minutes more, which turned into five minutes. Girl who brought out the food offered us a free cole slaw to make up for the long wait. Told her no thanks and could not believe it took so long. She then proceeded to tell me that they have a book for complaints where she could put our name so the next time we come in we could get free potatoes. Again, are you freaking kidding me. Why would you tell a customer that you have a book where you list people who complain. This Chicken Shack has gone down hill. Poor management for sure. I am sure there may be a few good workers at this location but the staff that was working Saturday afternoon needs more training, especially with customer service.
