I found Chickens Galore from Craigslist. As a newbie I was very excited at what I saw on there. But that didn't last long. You kind of scratch your head about Chickens Galore. Some things to like, but you leave one having a good/bad experience in the end PRO: - Good variety of clean, well cared for chicks. - Nice guys & very friendly and willing to answer questions. CONS: - $$ Expensive chicks. Local feed stores are cheaper for the same breed. - Chicks are feather "sexed". Feed stores are more accurate (got 100% from Blacksmiths) I got 50% roosters from them & they won't take them back. - Very hard to get a hold of Russell. I had the best luck after 6PM. - Free shots IF they are already vaccinated. You have to wait for the next time and he only does shots on 1 day for a few hours. Not so good if you traveled to get here. - The food was expired and moldy. Mold can quickly kill chickens. Yikes! I would highly suggest you go to your local feed store. I was surprised that my local feeds store had a great variety and are willing to try new breeds if you asked. let the excitement of having chicks and the reviews here to cause me to make an impulse buy at Chickens Galore. I wish I had done bit more research. I would have supported my local feed store. I might also have driven to Kruse in Anaheim (they get more than the run of the mill chicks). But my first choice would have been Malibu Feed where they have even more varieties of chickens for 1/2 the price. But that for another review! read more

I can't wait to get my chickens from them! My mom and I visited to see the facilities and the chickens they have. Everyone was super friendly and knowledgable, and the chickens are raised in sublime conditions. We were shown all ages and taught a bunch about chickens and raising them. I bought 5 chicks from Russell and got a nice mix of Blue and Black French Copper Marans and some Barnvelders. I got straight run because the exotics are almost always straight run. Cost of doing business, I do suppose. Anyway, I got a couple of cockerels, as I suspected I may and when I returned to get the second round of vaccinations, we were able to work out a compromise. I thought that was nice and I appreciate the accommodation. Russell and I found a happy medium, as he is very flexible. I was pleased with the outcome and the chickens are happy and healthy. Some of the exotics go fast, you may have to check often. He also has a good range in ages, so most people will find what they need or want. Bonus, they are vaccinated for Marek's. Drove over 100 miles to get here. I read all the reviews and thought it was worth the drive. We got 2 wyndottes and 2 amaracaunas. They all did really well for 2 months. About a month ago One of the amaracaunas started tipping over, she died in three days, the other died 2 days later. While one of the wyndottes started laying eggs over a month ago the other (same age) showed no signs of laying eggs, started limping and 3 days ago, died today. We have older chickens and other chicks from a different store and all are doing well. This has been an awful experience and we will never return to chickens galore. read more

These guys were worth the drive from Tarzana! They have all of the breeds I was interested in, plus some I had never seen in person. I love that the man in charge knows about current diseases that might affect the flocks and took the time to discuss them with me. Also, it's so nice to see someone with so many chickens stopping to point out his favorites and comment on their individual personalities. I texted Russell yesterday afternoon to find out if appointments are needed, and he got back to me within a half hour saying no appointments, listed his hours and address, phone number and email address. Russell was friendly and welcoming, answered our questions and helped us with a smile. We brought our kids and they loved the baby chicks, and my 3 year old son now wants a "fluffy chicken" (white silkie). I told Russell our budget for the day and he wasn't pushy at all. He asked us what we were looking for and I listed a number of breeds, and he let us know the prices of each that he currently had available. We couldn't resist the cuteness and ended up spending more than we had planned, but that's because we just wanted more. We ended up with two Easter Eggers ($6 each) , one Golden Laced Wyandotte ($8, maybe 2 weeks old?), a Buff Orpington ($6), and a Black Copper Maran (specialty, $15). I was very excited to go here because of the reviews I read. However, I did not feel comfortable here at all. I only got information when I asked but as a new chicken owner, I'm not exactly sure what to ask! He told me not to believe anything I read on the Internet but where else am I supposed to get information? The breeds available were very limited but that is based on the day I went. It is frustrating when the card outside the cage has a list of breeds but that's not what's inside! Russell kept looking inside the cage to see what he had and I was supposed to remember them as he called out the names. For a new chick owner, it would have been helpful to have them written down. I will say that the chickens are bred responsibly and are well cared for and seem healthy. Russell does not attempt to sex his chicks, nor does he claim to. I bought three chicks and two are roosters. :-( His prices are much higher than the feed stores too. read more

So I waited to write this review so that I could report on the accuracy of of Chicken's galore sexing the chickens, the health of the chickens and the eggs. I am extremely happy to report that we have had a wonderful experience with Chickens galore. We got 7 chicks and every one was a hen as requested. Carlos was awesome, knew his stuff and double checked with Russell just to make sure that the chickens I was getting were all girls to the best of their knowledge. They were open on Easter! I bought 4 Girls: An Ameracauna (Black Splash), A French Copper Maran, A Production Red and a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. They are growing FAST! Carlos and Russell were very patient with me, a nervous first time chicken buyer. *He vaccinates and makes sure all his chickens are healthy. It was worth the 1.5 hour drive out there for quality and selection and patience. *I knew the chickens I was going to get were well taken care of. *I knew all my questions were going to be answered. *They had everything I needed from feed, to a way to transport them (Although I did bring 2 laundry baskets bungee corded together with some newspaper in them) to feed, to waterers, to shavings. If you want Healthy chickens from a hatchery that cares and has a great reputation, *LOOK NO FURTHER. I found Chicken's Galore through Craigslist, but checked Yelp before I went out there and then didn't look back. There are a lot of other people selling chickens out there for cheaper, but you get what you pay for, these chickens are healthy quality birds that are worth every penny. Great experience with Chickens Galore. Wanted to add some young chickens to my tiny backyard flock. Acquired pullets from another farm back in June and one passed at the end of December. Remaining Barred Rock was rather disturbed to be alone. I had called mid-morning to see about ages available then decided to go ahead and make the drive after having no luck with nearby feed stores. Really nice setup with lots and lots of birds! Russell was very helpful in guiding me to the oldest available hens and I acquired a Lilac Sussex and an Olive Egger 6 and 8 weeks old. Loaded up with a heat lamp (which I shouldn't need for long) and some additional feeder/waterers and feed. Have only had the birds home for a few days but so far so good. They are adjusting well and seem happy and healthy. Great communication, and even got a fast response on a text when I asked to confirm hatch dates. Would definitely recommend and return as needed. read more

Second time getting a flock from here , we have had great experiences with them :) this time around we went with 6 reds they were about 3 weeks when got them and they are 9 weeks now and are doing great ! They had an assortment of chicks to choose from at various ages and offered advice to further your success at owning chickens. "The Easter Bunny" stopped by Chickens Galore in Norco the day before Easter and managed to pick up nine chicks from Russell. If you want chickens that will infect your flock with Marek"s disease and die, this is the place for you. They knowingly raise and sell you diseased, dying birds with a smile on their faces. Suppose you have someone in your life that raises chickens and you hate that person. What could be better than buying them a chicken that will infect their entire flock with a deadly disease that can't be cured? If your kids are in 4H and you really don't like it, try this place. You can get birds that will not only die, they can infect and kill their competitors birds and flocks. If that doesn't get your kids kicked out of 4H, it will at least get them over the joy of raising animals. Even if you don't buy chickens from them and want Marek's disease for your flock, visit the LA Fair. Over 3/4 of the chickens at the fair are their chickens. Just walking around those chickens can bring home Marek's to your flock. If you are thinking, "I want my chickens to get Marek's, but the fair just ended" don't worry, you can visit Norco or anywhere downwind of this place and get it for free via the wind. Lastly, if you are worried that they may have fixed this problem and you can't get a chicken with Marek's disease anymore, you can relax. Marek's disease never goes away. read more

I bought 8 chicks in March, now 20 weeks later, they are all hens, all starting to lay, except surprisingly the 3 California Whites! I'm sure I'll find white eggs any day now! The prices are higher than the feed store, but he offers more breeds. I could not be happier with the flock I now have! I am a seasoned chicken keeper and pretty much knew what I wanted. Late update, one of the two remaining birds I had, the other Delaware, died a from Marek's a month after I wrote my review. The fourth bird is still alive and healthy, I'm assuming she has an immunity to it. I acquired 5 new birds purchased online to keep her company and they have all reached egg laying age and are healthy in spite of the Marek's that my bird from this place carries. This is likely because they are stronger birds who were vaccinated properly and I'm thankful for that because I love all my chickens. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! I was new to raising chickens but I wanted the lifelong commitment. So I started small. I bought 3 buff Orpingtons and 3 barred rocks in February 2018 from chickens galore. As of today 2 of my buffs have died from Mareks disease. I invested my time, my energy and my love into raising the chicks that I bought. Now I'm faced with the remaining 4 developing it and losing them also. But also the fact my surroundings are now infected for possibly years with this heartbreaking disease. Paid $25 each for two blue laced wyandottes. 12 weeks later it is so obvious they are not blue laced wyondottes. They look like they could be ameraucana or Easter egger. They are healthy so far but if you are going to mix up chicks not sure you should be in the business of selling them or at the very least at a low price point. The place was nice and clean so I did not expect the mix up. They also turned out to be two boys but hey that's the risk you take when buying straight run. I love this place! You can tell the owner really loves his chickens and takes good care of them. He also gives the chicks their shots, so they are less likely to get sick. I have bought 20 chickens from here. I have all different varieties. The Silkies are the sweetest chickens, but are very delicate and can die easily. I would not recommend this kind of chicken to a rookie, they are high maintenance. Before you go pick out chickens, look them up and educate yourself on the different breeds . If you don't have a lot of time, buy full grown chickens that are already laying eggs. So I just stopped by Chickens Galore, very nice family and well kept barn/mini farm. Russell, the owner, helped us out on picking laying hens because we wanted a lot of eggs. We stopped by to take a look, and he didn't mind waiting for us to stop by the bank and come back. We purchased two California whites & very happy with the purchase. He was very honest, nice, and helpful. The pricing on them was great compared to many places that I personally have seen. So it was worth the drive to Corona. Please only purchase animals from Chickens Galore with caution. I purchased 3 hens that were 12 weeks old in August 2016 and so far I only have one left. Those 3 chickens got my entire flock sick with some sort of cold (after I quarantined them for a week). One of the chicks died about 3 weeks later. One died yesterday (nov) and we have just one left. Poor genes or poor breeding and possibly not healthy breeding environment. Heartbroken. Especially for the price I paid! I have been keeping chickens for 6+ years and I have never seen such feeble birds. Disappointed. The only reason for this review is to make others aware of my experience because I know I am not the only one. This place is awesome. We moved into a new home where we inhered 2 hens. Our son asked if we could get baby chicks so we came here and got a whole set up and 5 baby chicks. Unfortunately some of our chicks got very sick and didn't make it. When this happened I called the owner and he sat on the phone with me for about 30 minutes explaining the disease. Very, very pleased with this place! It's a ranch house not a warehouse or some type of pet store which I really enjoyed. The chickens all seemed pretty well taken care of and everything was relatively clean. Wide variety of breeds and everything you need. If you're a novice chicken owner do a little research before you come in. They aren't very good teachers, but they're not in the teaching business and they offer a quality product. If your chicks get sick then it's 99% chance it's coccidiosis which is super easy to treat and you should be treating for anyways. Use Corid powder (for cattle) in their water at 1 tablespoon per gal of water for 5 days. Medicated chick feed will not help. Always remember to quarantine new chickens before adding to your existing flock. read more

I first got silver laced Cochin pullet, blue laced Wyandotte pullet, tan/white Americuana pullet. I was very happy w my girls! When my silver laced Cochin got sick during the heat & passed he was willing to let me come back & get a replacement Cochin which I wasn't expecting. Being greatful for his customer service, I came back & got 7 young chicks from Russell 4 americuanas, French copper maran, columbian Wyandotte, buff orrphington. All are alert, hungry, healthy & energetic. Coming back next week for their complimentary 2nd vaccinations which most poultry farms won't offer if u purchase chicks before their vaccines are due. Russell vaccinates for marecks. Can't wait to go back & check out their exotic breeds which normally get sold fast as day old chicks. So if u want exotic breeds check with him often! I just picked up 4 babies from Chickens Galore yesterday. They are adorable but I have a couple of concerns..... Russell was helping another customer when we arrived so a very nice person named Carlos helped us. Customer service was excellent, so no complaints there, at all. I ended up leaving with a blue Amerucana, a chocolate orpington, a cream legbar and a light Sussex. I am only zoned for hens but have to take my chances as the babies are only sold as straight run. I asked about the auto sexing breeds and was told about the cream legbar (they lay BLUE eggs, as well!!). Carlos picked one for me and said that he was 80% sure that it was a girl. I arrived home, looked online (Backyard Chickens) at pictures that people have posted boys vs girls and this little one is clearly a boy (I know, I know, don't believe everything you see on the internet but if their pictures are correct, there is no doubt that I have a cockerel) so I'm not happy about that. The Amerucana is nick-named "The Giant" because it towers over all of the others (To the point that they try to hide under it as though it's their momma). I think that maybe it was put into the wrong brooder with younger ones....It's also quite aggressive and bossing around the others. I have an email in to Russell to get his input. If I have the option to, I would return the Amerucana and the cream legbar and look for 2 female cream legbars! I researched for weeks as to the breeds that I would like and went there with a list so I wouldn't be overwhelmed. I love the little ones but I'm feeling like I rushed my choices and knowing my luck, I will turn out having 4 roosters. **Update - Russell got back to me right away today and offered to do what he could to make sure that I was happy with my purchase. I'm super happy with his communication and willingness to help. I had no knowledge of cream legbars so they were not on my radar at all when I went to Chickens Galore. Had I researched the breed, I would have known how to tell boys from girls. I won't make the mistake again (Backyard Chickens' website was a huge help) but am looking forward to adding girls to my little flock. I highly recommend Chickens Galore ! read more

This is my first review :). My dad was interested in raising some chicks for the Hen's colored eggs. I had done some research and everything pointed to "Chickens Galore". So my dad and I thought it was a good idea to visit. My dad and I drove out on Thursday evening 8/7/15 at around 5:30pm. Upon arrival, Mr. Russell welcomed us with a friendly smile and guided us step-by-step on choosing our breeds with the BEST customer service possible. All the birds from chick to adult looked super healthy and beautiful. The chicks were cute as well lol. At the end of the day, my dad had purchased some Ameraucanas, Black Copper Marans(Rare), Welsummers, Buff Orpingtons, couple of Gold Wyandottes and a Silver Wyandotte as well. Mr. Russell was kind enough to give my dad a Black Copper Maran Chick and a Naked-Neck (we asked for one lol) for free as well :). We were super happy at the end of the day. We definitely recommend anyone who is looking to purchase either one or many healthy beautiful chicks.
