Purchased a car this month from Chico Volkswagon. After requesting communication online about a vehicle, Rian was professional and on it but not pushy and over the top. I then filled out my application for loan and it got denied through the auto system (I have a colorful and complicated credit history..all on me) but he called and let me know that it would be worked out in person with more documentation. We then set up a time for me and my husband to come in and set up a test drive as I was coming in from out of the area. When we arrived Rian walked out and greeted us and we got right to it looking at all the vehicles we wanted to, I had originally thought new but switched to used and that was no problem. We went out on a test drive and Rian was very knowledgeable and able to find my answers about the vehicle I was driving. Came back looked at another vehicle but ultimately decided to talk numbers. Rian made that part of the process easy. The numbers guy the negotiation guy, didn't catch his name maybe Corey, he was too much. I guess there's a reason he doesn't have much human interaction. Once me Rian and my Husband shook hands on a deal we moved to paperwork with Nathan. Who was excellent and thorough at explaining things. They were very clear that if we needed anything later to contact them. Another great peace of mind thing is all of their vehicles new or used come with a bumper to bumper power train warranty. I rechecked 2 times with the staff Preston that he had confirmed the price with his boss and that's what they would be willing to pay before taking time off work and coming in to seal the deal. As I walked in I'm immediately handed off to another staff who is the "appraiser." I told him we had already agreed to 22k. He went out and went through my car and came back in and said " I'm not the final say but 22k seems like a reasonable ask for that car. Next it goes to the manager to approve the price. 30 minutes later he comes out and says "yeah there's a car with lower miles than yours for 17k in Roseville. Well it was time for my annual service for my 2015 Beetle convertible. New here to Northern California, I bought Buttercup brand new from Autonation Volkswagen in Las Vegas NV. Drove her off their lot with 3 miles on her, and to date - she just rolled over 20,500 original miles. I was really anxious about this new service place, as any car owner who treats their vehicle like family is. My anxiety was quickly put to rest as Jesse (service rep) took Buttercup in and got her up to date with an oil change and standard 32- point inspection. I had opted for the Winter Care package, although if anything else had been needing attention I'd have addressed it of course. Buttercup came back with a great well-check, only needing the tires rotated, oil change and new wipers...all included in that Winter Care package. Jesse stayed in contact all day via text messages, and the tech working on her even sent me a video of Buttercup at her "well-check". Here's what cinched the deal for me: When I arrived to pick her up, she had been 100% detailed. Interior and exterior and I swear that car is cleaner now than when she was brand new. They are also a Mazda dealer. We bought a 2025 Mazda 3 from them and it developed a small annoying rattle. The sales department worked with the service department to get us a loaner while the vehicle was repaired. Jesse Redding was our service advisor and he did an outstanding job of being sensitive and smart in terms of diagnosing the issue and getting the vehicle back to us. We had several other Mazda dealers we could have purchased the car from, but I am very happy with Chico Mazda and the extra effort they went to to make sure we were happy with the vehicle. If you have an option between a larger dealer and a smaller town dealership, I would recommend always going with the smaller town dealership because you generally get better service, and they are easier to work with. read more

I want to start out by saying that in total, between my husband and myself, we've owned 7 Volkswagens in our adult lifetime and will continue to own Volkswagens. My husband purchased his GTI and has taken vehicles in for servicing for years and has had a pretty good experience. My experience wasn't all that great. My 2015 Jetta broke down on a Thursday afternoon. There was a problem with clock spring. I called them and set up an appointment for the following morning, which I was very grateful for. I had my car towed to the servicing center same day as car broke down, called an notified them it was on the way. Friday morning, I got a call from Jesse, he called for more information about the issue. He said he would look up some information and call me back. 10:00 am came around and I still hadn't heard from him. I called him back, he said he had no information yet, but would call me back later. 2:00 came around and still no call. I called again, he said he's been really busy, they were short-staffed. He said it was indeed the clock spring and that the part is 2 weeks out. He said it was safe to drive, however. I asked him if he was sure, the reason i had towed my card was because of the steering not working correctly. I asked if someone had driven it to make sure. He said no, would look into it and call me back. 4:00 on a Friday afternoon and he hadn't called me back. I called again and there was no answer, the call went to voicemail. They closed at 5:00 p.m. and I had no return call. I stopped by the dealership the following morning, but the service center is closed on weekends during winter hours. I stopped by Monday morning and spoke to the manager, Barry. I expressed my frustration, he commented on how they had been short-staffed and that Jesse had gone home sick around 1:00 that day, but then corrected himself after I pointed out that I had spoken to him after 2:00. He asked Steve to look into the status of my card and handed me off to him. Steve was the most helpful person in this department. He provided me with a status of my car. He said he would look for the part and try to get it shipped sooner. After this, he kept me informed with status updates and returned my calls promptly. My car was ready for pick up by Thursday evening. If it wasn't for Steve stepping in and providing excellent customer service, I would have given 1 star (because I couldn't give zero) and I would be taking my business elsewhere. Should I return, I will only be dealing with Steve. As for everyone else, you can do better. If you tell a customer you are going to do something, do it. A 3-minute phone call at the end of the day Friday would have made all the difference. read more

Dustin was incredibly condescending and rude toward me after our Tiguan we bought from them last year was totaled by another driver. He basically called me a liar several times when I said my GAP insurance would give me 1000 toward the down payment of a new car. He acted like it was a waste of his time to show us an Atlas. I will never buy another car from Chico Volkswagen. We set up an appointment to view a car that the dealership said they had in stock. So we drove two hours only to arrive and the salesman said they don't have that car on the lot. We ended up test driving a car they did have on the lot and decided to buy it. During the process the sales manager kept going back-and-forth between us and an office with someone else. This played out over a 2 and a half hour period. Eventually we were able to get a price on the car and a good trade-in on our car. Everything was signed and we were just waiting for them to bring the car around for us to leave. This process alone took almost an additional hour. When we ask the salesman what was going on but he couldn't give us an answer. We finally got upset and asked the sales manager what was going on. He tells the guy bringing the car around the front of the dealership ended up scraping the side of it against something else on the lot. He apologized and said we could either take it as is or they could have it fixed but we would be without our car for two weeks. We told them there is absolutely no way we are taking a new car with a scratch down the drivers door. So they gave us a rental to use for two weeks. We then had to drive two hours back home without our new car that we had just purchased. We did get our car back within the two weeks but still had to drive two hours back to the dealership. I believed they scratched the car before we signed the paperwork but they figured they wouldn't tell us or maybe we wouldn't notice. The sales manager was one of the most insincere people I've ever spoke to at a dealership. I will never purchase another car from Chico Volkswagen and I encourage others to shop elsewhere. read more

Can I give less than 1 star? Have had to deal with this dealership several times (leased a car for 3 years and then ended up buying out the lease). We had mostly good experiences with the service department, but every interaction with a salesperson or manager they would waste our time, drag things out so you just sign on the line to get out of there, and straight up lie to us every time. We wanted to use our own bank for financing? No problem, the manager will give them a call (he didn't). Oh look, we actually found you a better rate than your bank offered (it wasnt). Yes that is standard APR for used vehicles (it wasn't). 3+ hours to buy out a car we were already leasing thru them. Called our bank the very next day to find out no, they never inquired at all, and while VW was using "an amazing deal" at 4.9%, our bank was like, "uh, our standard is 2.9%". Had our bank buy out the financing and went through them (we never want to speak with Chico VW again) and immediately saved $150 per month. (This interaction was a few months ago, actual interest rates may have changed by now, but wanted to be clear how much they were attempting to rip us off) Would I buy another VW? Yes. Would I ever use Chico VW again? No. They will straight up lie to your face every single time. read more

Price you see online isn't the price you pay on used they have add on such as glass coverage $1800 that they required be added to the price but not listed on website. When we negotiated we told them we wanted two keys for the car got to the end of the signed contract all the sudden they couldn't find the other key and wouldn't provide one. Push the extended warranty saying it was for 100,000 miles but during financing found out it was only for 65,000 and isn't like an extension of the factory one at all. Purchased the car in a Saturday evening by Monday didn't remember the transaction at all or your name. $16,000 car ended up costing $22,000. read more

Though we ended up purchasing our ID.4 from here, it was not an easy or pleasurable experience. The finance manager, I think Greg, was condescending and a bit rude. He plays the typical car salesman games, in my opinion. The sales people that helped us were friendly, but lacked knowledge of the vehicle. They also seemed to hover around while we discussed what we wanted to do, which was uncomfortable. We waited two weeks for the car, and had actually gone in and canceled our deal. We just never felt like our business was appreciated and when we would call to check in to see if they had any status update, they were not friendly that did not know anything, rather annoyed that we were asking. After canceling, Dustin reached out and apologized and asked what he could do to save the deal. Of course they got the car the day after we canceled. He ensured us that it would be a better experience. He also got us matched up with the girl that actually knew about the car. She was FANTASTIC! My recommendation to management/leadership. Take the time to train your employees and empower them with knowledge. Hiring people that do not know everything is ok and understandable in todays world; however, teach them that when they do not know, to simply tell the customer that. But then respond with "I am unsure, but let me find out for you" and then actually follow back up. Again, my opinion is that they need a complete overhaul with training and customer service. And the guy that deals with finance and trade ins, I think Greg?, he needs an attitude adjustment. His smug attitude and overall demeanor, I would simply not tolerate in my own business. You are a reflection of your team and your people. If they are not doing well, it is not their fault, but your own for not leading them. read more

First of all, I'm a 3x Mazda owner. So naturally when my wife needed a new car, we went to Chico Mazda to buy our 2nd car from them. I worked with Aden, who was nice. We inquired about a special via their website & they said they didn't have that model in stock, but one was in transit. We tried the premium model & asked for some #'s on it. After an hour we were given 3 different figures on one car. Corey (sales manager) went & talked to finance when I asked about the inconsistencies. He came back and said they had made some mistakes in their calculations but would follow up later w/ correct #'s. No problem, he agreed since they had that model in transit that we they would honor the special when it arrived if we didn't like the premium model #'s. Nathan (Sales Manager) called me 2 days later, he immediately threw Corey under bus and said "he was having an off day." I said Corey was nice and we had thrown a bunch of #'s at him so understandable for any confusion. I didn't really like the figures on the premium & asked about the original special. He said "let's test drive the car when it comes in" and he stated could definitely get us that special. When l asked for it in writing He went on to say he didn't want to look bad to his bosses if he fought for that special, if we didn't end up wanting that car. Understandable I guess, so we agreed we would come back when the car in. It came in on my wife's birthday so we carved out time before dinner to drive it and we liked it. Aden said Nathan would have the #'s reflecting the special when we got back. After returning Nathan was nowhere to found, they said he should have been back from UPS a while back but never returned. That was fine, we had dinner plans anyway. Aden confirmed that he knew the special we were promised & said he was told there would be no problem with getting us that deal. The next day Nathan calls and the payment was $100 more per month over the special. I pushed back and said that we were assured that they could get us the special several times. I stated that I felt mislead that after doing everything they asked, such as coming in 2x's & they didn't even come through. He told me he did his best & I was "going down a rabbit hole" with my complaining. When I stated I planned to share this story with others, he just hung up on me. Trust, I wasn't rude, nor disrespectful. Just obviously perturbed they mislead me & we packed up 2 small kids & made adjustments on my wife's birthday to make this work. I texted the salesperson about our concern and said I was not happy how this went down. Nathan texted me back on Aden's phone and said he hung up on me because I "threatened him" with writing a review. So here's my review... Overall, they lied repeatedly, had us come in several times under the guise they would do what they promised and then tried to hustle us into taking the car at a 25% increase over what was promised given the time we spent trying to get this done. This was the 2nd time I have had an issue with sales here so I would think twice before doing any business here. read more

I drove an hour and a half to pick up a car I had came to look at a couple days prior just for them to tell they "sold" the car even though I signed paper work for them to hold it for me. They never communicated that the car was "sold". THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I wish I had had the time to read previous reviews before I brought my 2014 Tiguan to this dealership. I had just moved to Paradise and my car overheated. I called AAA and had it towed there. They gave me a quote of about $300 and I left the car with them. 2 days later I received a call saying the repair would be about $8400!!! I told them to fix what was wrong and not to worry about the "add ons" they found. All said and done the repair was $5700. It took 3 weeks and they released the car to me with no oil in it!! What they fixed failed again 2 days inside their 1 year warranty but 39 miles outside the 12k . Would they honor that warranty? NO!!! I would NEVER EVER take my car to this dishonest rip off joint again. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Was told 3 hours at third hour I called and was told another hour. Then told that I would need a tire rotation that is not included in my pre packages service deals. How is a 19.99$ tire rotation not part of a 20,000 mile car serve package?!? I declined it as I use another place for all my tire needs. This VW location out of SF, Sac and ABQ is the worst. So I have never written a review before, good or bad. I usually just chalk it up whatever. This time that is not happening. My wife went to Chico Volkswagen to purchase a 2024 ID4, as normal everything is great while you are in there. They told us about the 3 year free charging with an ID4, wow that was going to be great we are going to have the car for 3 years perfect free charges. That was a deal maker. we traded in our pathfinder as we are going over the new car with the lot attendant, my wife asked about how the free 3 year charging works, the lot kid says you only have 500 free not 3 years free, so the lot kid and I went in to get it cleared up. We went to the GM that is who we started with, his response was I dont know, go talk to my son. So we did, he told us he could deal with it right then but would get it figured out. We tried contacting both the GM and his son and CRICKETS, a month and half or so goes by and we finally get the GM on the phone who says he is going to make it right, he didn't say how exactly but he said please don't worry about it, What a bunch of BULLSHIT, we got your money so F$%# you now. I have purchased literally 20-30 news cars in my life. I understand that every car dealership needs to make money, wow, never been so disappointed in the follow up to a situation like this before. THERE IS NO WAY WE BOUGHT THIS ID4 IF IT WAS NOT A 3 YEAR FREE CHARGING. So we traded our pathfinder in and we went on our way. The pathfinder was a lease, what they did not tell us was you have to take a lease back to the dealer. now 5 months has passed and I received a phone call saying my Pathfinder is behind on payments. WTF!!! I have a perfect credit score and pay everything on time. These assholes did not turn the car in, I had to go deal with it yesterday and had to pay 632.00 because Chico Volkswagen didn't do what they needed to do. So if you want a VW and don't care about how you are treated the Chico Volkswagen is for you, if you expect any kind of follow up or service from the GM or his son then this is not the place to buy a car. I can not speak to the sales side of this dealership, however, the service department is a disaster. I have brought my vehicle in for warranty repairs several times on a coolant leak, I live over an hour away and every time I return home, the issue has not been repaired. The service department lost my information, delayed repairs and seemed generally disorganized in every facet. I eventually paid out of pocket to have the issue repaired by a competent shop. The manager, Barry was very rude and shouted at me over the phone blaming me for the issue. I would recommend having your vehicle repaired/serviced elsewhere. read more

In December 2020, I purchased a new Mazda CX-5. I went to the dealership three times before I made the actual purchase. My sales lady, Jenna, was so honest and kind. She even came in on her day off to let me test drive cars on 'my time'. She arranged for me to drive the five different versions of a Mazda CX-5. She even washed the cars I took for a test drive and my actual care in the evening after the sale was over. Then, she drove my car to my house in the rain to deliver it. Only in Chico do you get this kind of personal yet professional service! Nathan and Jenna answered many questions via email and texting and never got frustrated with me. General Manager, Dustin, Store Manager, Brandon, and Nathan all made the purchase smooth without any smooth-talking. They even registered my new beautiful car with the DMV--saved me time afterward. I was interested in a Mazda CX-5 so I emailed Chico Volkswagen Mazda as well as a few other Mazda dealerships in Sacramento, Ukiah and Santa Rosa. I live in a rural area, it's at least a 3.5 hour drive to the nearest Mazdas and with internet sales managers at every dealership, I decided it was best to contact the sales reps ahead of time to gauge prices/promotions before I made the drive to whichever locations. After filling out a contact form on Chico Volkswagen Mazda's website, I was contacted by an Internet Manager. I was given the MSRP on the model I was interested in and I emailed back with my situation. "I live in a rural area.... Want to gauge prices first.... Corresponding with a few other Mazdas.... Narrowing down which Mazda to go to based on price and promotions offered". The internet Manager replied with "I can put you on the books for Saturday morning". She never offered me a price on the vehicle like Maita Mazda and a Mazda in Santa Rosa offered me. Instead, she kept showing me the MSRP and wanting me to come in for a test drive. I said no thanks for many reasons. What's the point of having a internet sales department when they are absolutely unhelpful and do not offer you a price on the vehicle other than the MSRP? Every other Mazda offered me a price. I didn't care for this dance Chico Volkswagen Mazda was doing with me so I figured if this is how they are now for an inquiry, I don't want to know what they'll be like when I'm actually there trying to make the deal. I didn't like being pushed to test drive without being given a price. Maita Mazda and Elk Grove Mazda didn't push me at all. Great communication via email the whole way. Right after I declined the invitation to test drive and thanked him for his time, the internet Manager frantically emailed me 4 times within 10 minutes, still just giving me general pricing after rebates and not actual numbers like the other Mazda dealerships so happily did for me. Car was brought in for an electrical system diagnostic after just having the battery replaced at the dealership in Sacramento. On completion of the the assessment, they confidently recommended and completed an alternator replacement, which did not fix the problem at all. I called in to see if they'd take some responsibility for their work and not only did they say no, the service rep has suddenly moved out of town. Last but not least, they did not honor the military/ veteran discount initially offered for services. $2400 down the tubes. Don't take it here! read more
