Our server set the stage from her warm greeting. You feel like you are about to have a unique experience- and you are! It's very dark in the restaurant. This creates an intimate ambience. However the energy is very vibrant. Their menu- New American Cuisine- offers both small and large plates. My scallop dish is considered an entree- and it delivered in flavor and aesthetic. You know you are experiencing truly fine dining when you are at the Harp and Crown. If you are in Philly- check this place out!

I enjoyed brunch at Harp & Crown and will definitely be back. The buffet had a great variety of both breakfast and lunch options. My favorites were the smoked lox, shrimp cocktail, fresh salads, mini sandwiches, and the French toast. They also had biscuits with chicken sausage gravy, a juice station, and plenty of other hot and cold selections. The desserts were decent, but the food was definitely the highlight. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. One thing I actually loved was the small plates they provide. It naturally encourages you to take smaller portions so you can sample more of the buffet without overloading your plate. Mimosas are available for $10 each. There were three of us, one person ordered a mimosa, and our total came to $134 before tip, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality and variety. The only downside is that there's no obvious sign outside letting you know you've arrived at Harp & Crown. Just head to 1525 Sansom Street it's right next to Giuseppe & Sons, which also has a great happy hour. Overall, great food, good service, reasonable pricing, and a brunch I'd happily recommend.

Huge bar, giant wall of liquor bottles, dim lighting, and a cool old-school vibe. I told the bartender that ordering a beer in a place like this felt like I was insulting him. He laughed and told me not to worry about it. The drink special was called "Naked and Famous," which honestly sounded like the perfect cocktail to order in honor of Jen. But then I spotted a dark beer on the menu that sounded too good to pass up. If you follow me, you know I'm slowly becoming a dark beer guy. I liked it a lot. The sandwich special was a cheesesteak. Sorry, I should've taken a picture of the menu. But I really enjoyed it, and for $18 it came with a mountain of seasoned fries, which feels like a bargain these days. Bomb Shell: the two people working absolutely crushed it. I don't know if they were understaffed or if Monday night got busier than expected, but they were working their tails off the entire time. Even with that, they stayed polite, friendly, helpful, and incredibly accommodating to the guy carrying around a mannequin. Great visit to Sassafras!

The drink menu is extensive and well planned. I love the prices the most probably. The service is good but not super fast as they usually only have 1-2 people serving, so only go here if you have time to wait. The staff is always kind and accommodating. The food here is also very solid. The cheese steak and the burger are both delicious though the burger might take the #1 spot. I love vibes of the place and find myself relaxing and sipping a lovely drink while staring at the beautiful tiled walls. The quality is high and the prices decently low

For the two pickup orders, I ordered medium rare and got a very rare steak. I was able to throw it in a pan to get it to the right temperature but I didn't want to cook both days, so it was a bit inconvenient. The third time was ordered in the restaurant. I ordered medium hoping it would come out a little closer to medium rare and I got a well done Ribeye. I ended up going to the butchers shop the next day and cooking my own cuz I just wanted to eat a good steak. Not sure what's going on.

There were 9 of us in the party so we had to wait for everyone to arrive to be seated. We arrived after 1pm and well before the "rush" (the place was filled by the time we left). We had no issues with ordering or waiting for food. Our server was nice and patient. I ordered the spicy popcorn shrimp (this is not the official name) but they were small fried shrimp with peppers and a ranch dipping sauce. Yum I ordered the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and spinach with some rice. The spinach was a very small portion size but I mixed it in with the mashed potatoes. There were two of us that placed an order for a cocktail when we placed our entree orders but the drinks too long to arrive. We had finished our starters and were eating our meal by the time our drinks came to the table. I then placed a To Go order. This is where they lost an entire star. I should have checked the order before leaving but I didn't so I take some blame but I paid for a 22oz steak, loaded potato, and cripsy brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were missing from the order.

Unlike others, we felt the portions were not too small. Overall a very respectable dinner showing from Almanac. I kind of regret ordering a pre fixed cocktail because his Omakase was so on point to what he asked for and was delicious. I love rhubarb and Gin is my usual spirt of choice, so I didn't want to pass up the Hanamachi Rikki, but while I found the tart rhubarb refreshing, it fell flat when placed next to the Omakase. While I enjoyed the music choices, he did not and it was also INCREDIBLY dark/moody which isn't our preference, but makes sense for the intimate vibe they are clearly going for.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since they are located right about Ogawa (also amazing)! We tried the omakase cocktail, which was really fun and creative. Although if I'm paying $25 for a drink, I do expect a bit more of a presentation... The scallop crispy rice was absolutely a favorite, we had to order two! The toro was also a standout, although how can you go wrong with toro, uni, and caviar? The wagyu dog itself was great, but the roll it was on was dry. In my opinion, the bread makes or breaks a sandwich, so points off for that one. The ambiance was cozy, if a little dark at times. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive and gave us good recommendations on what to order. I will absolutely be back for the crispy rice alone!

The inside has a great cozy vibe, feeling like a small, quaint pub where you just want to settle in and stay awhile, which in fact we did. We started our meal with two incredible appetizers. First, we built an amazing cheese and ham charcuterie board, choosing 5 different cheeses that were all fantastic. We also ordered the Whipped Ricotta, which was out-of-this-world delicious. The maple syrup drizzle was a perfect touch, and it paired beautifully with the pumpkin seed puree and grilled bread. For my main course, I went with the Beer-Battered Fish & Chips. The fish was cooked absolutely perfectly, crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and just super tasty overall. The portion was pretty amazing too. It came served with parmesan chips, malt mayo, malt vinegar, and tartar sauce, which completed the dish perfectly. Even though I was stuffed, I couldn't resist dessert. The cinnamon beignets were light, fluffy, and the absolute perfect ending to a phenomenal meal. The other component I'll mention is there were four of us dining and every single one of us thought the food was just terrific! Not a single complaint! I should also mention the service was attentive and pleasant. Society Hill has a lot of dining options, but this place completely stands out. I'd definitely go back! Highly recommend!

Second, everyone knows about Roxanne's insanely delicious and creative prix fix menus, but did you know they now have a la carte lunch (and dinner) menus? I recently scored a lunch reservation and ordered a classic combo of burger and fries, with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Roxanne can make the tasty inventive dishes, but can they make hometown faves like this? Yes. Yes they can. The juicy well-seasoned burger, pillow soft homemade sesame bun, secret sauce, and onion would have been enough, but the unmelted, room temp red rock cheese gave the burger a kick in the pants that make this a contender for best burger in Philly. The curly fries would put Arby's to shame. They are thicker, crispier, longer, and softer inside. Lastly, it may seem odd to order dessert after lunch. But, if you are at Roxanne, you could be charged with a crime if you leave without it. I went with the American classic of strawberry shortcake since it's practically a requirement on 4th of July and this is our 250th birthday as well! I think the photo explains itself. Obscenely delicious and, yes, I ate it all. Slowly. So, put Roxanne on the top of your list for a Philly lunch stop, and order the dessert too! You won't regret it.
