I can't speak much about the sushi because I haven't ordered it, but their Tan Tan ramen is absolutely delicious! The broth was super flavorful and the little bit of spice from the chili oil(?) added a perfect edge to the creaminess of the soup. The noodles themselves had an excellent bite and chewiness to them which I really enjoy. The char siu isn't exactly that legendary "melts in your mouth" but it wasn't tough and the flavor of whatever marinade it was in was super nice. The fresh bean shoots and bamboo and other veggies they added were excellent garnish and there was also a slightly oozy soft boiled egg. The portion was enough to make me full with a little room for dessert (ice cream mochi, pretty good, but you can get them in grocery stores for way cheaper than $5 for 2 pieces). I also tried their Special Beef Noodle Soup and it tasted good, but not as delicious as the Tan Tan Ramen. The broth is pretty sweet and soy sauce based(?). Service: Pretty attentive, only took 15 minutes to get my meal when the restaurant was like 3/4 full at lunch time. Waiter goes around to fill water glasses. Anyway, I think I'll probably be back to try their other noodle soups or maybe even the sushi or rice dishes. read more

So glad I found this super-cute place!!! The ambience is sooo pretty and all the food I tried was amazing and photogenic! Ramen and sushi are two of my very favorite foods, so I was delighted that they offer both here, and done well too! This is a small space, so make a dinner reservation if you want to be on the safe side. I tried the tan tan ramen, which had a rich, meaty broth with a subtle peanutty taste. The ramen noodles are springy and the pork belly is super tender. I also shared a few rolls with friends - torched yellowtail, Chiharu roll, and the boston(?) roll with lobster salad inside. I recommend this place not for the noodles but for the sushi. The sushi is a enjoyable and tasty piece. In particular, the caterpillar sushi. Love the atmosphere of this place! We came around 6pm on a Saturday and it was about a 10 minute wait for two. I was craving ramen so I ordered the Tan Tan ramen. Also got the Chicharu house sushi roll and a side of the sweet shrimp sashimi. Food: the Tan Tan ramen was very light and delicious! Broth was well made and I thoroughly enjoyed the slight nutty taste to it. My only comment was that I wished the egg was marinated but it was your regular soft boiled egg. The meat was deliciously soft and tender. The sushi was plated so beautifully! A+ for presentation and attention to detail. It didn't blow me away but I was quite happy with it. The sweet shrimp itself was alright. The pieces were very small. Overall, a decently solid place for food. After seeing all the five star yelp reviews on this place, I knew I had to give it a shot! Very much enjoyed my time at Chiharu on route 9. I came in on a Sunday night around 730pm for a party of 2 people. The staff was super friendly and the place was clean and nicely decorated. There are a few seats st the sushi bar area and some tables on the side. Even though it's a small space it felt spacious and open. We ordered an eel bento box, miso soup, and the Chiharu House roll. All of it was so delicious and beautifully plated!!!! Fish tasted fresh and even though it seemed they were backed up for takeout orders, they didn't neglect us while there at all. Pricing was fair as well and I can't wait to try out their ramen next time! Their menu has a lot of choices and I'll def be going back. Careful, there isn't much parking around the area. When we arrived, all the tables were filled, so we had to wait about 15-20 minutes which I don't think we even ended up waiting that long. While we were waiting a woman and her daughter came in and I've never seen someone so rude and incredibly racist by asking numerous times to sit in a empty spot (meant for a reservation) and when she finally agreed to order take out, she asked and talk to the hostess so terribly, ex. "Do you understand me? Do you know what I'm saying?" (Hostess had an Asian accent) . The hostess handled it perfectly and was very polite the entire time and luckily the woman and her daughter left. We were then shortly seated, ironically at the seats that woman wanted. It was right at the sushi bar so we were able to watch the sushi chef make the food. Everyone here was so nice and friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful and had a beautiful accent wall of a silver plated old Asian painting behind the sushi chef. This restaurant hold probably a maximum of 20 people. There is one sushi chef who makes the sushi and the kitchen in the back. We ordered Pork Belly Buns, Tuna Nigiri, Kissed by Fire Maki, Spicy Tuna Maki and Torched Yellowtail Maki. The Pork Belly Buns were only ok. I'm, unfortunately, one of those people who tastes soap with Cilantro and the Buns had a lot of Cilantro in it. But even without they were just a few thin slices of pork belly when I almost expected one thick piece. The sushi we got was phenomenal. I somewhat regret the kissed by fire Maki because it was so spicy! But it was delicious I kept eating it. My favorite was easily the tuna Nigiri. Let me start by saying many of the 5 star reviews posted here are suspicious. They are posted by yelpers with 1 review and the content suggests they are not aunthentic. With that said Chiharu is a nice new addition to an area that's otherwise an afterthought. The ambiance is clean, bright, and inviting. The wait staff and hostess are very warm and friendly. Our waiter highly recommended the tan tan ramen to my friend and me. The ramen itself was delicious. The broth was appropriately salty, not overly rich, and excellent subtle notes of sesame. The spice was present but not overwhelming. I added pork to mine and it was flavorful and perfectly tender. We also ordered some sushi to share which tasted fresh and smooth. This was my first time trying this quaint little restaurant! There are a handful of tables adorned with minimal modern accents and sushi bar. The server was attentive and polite. I had a jasmine tea and my partner had a Sapporo. A bit overpriced at nine dollars for a beer and six dollars for a pot of tea. Yummy none the less! We started with the Kiss of Fire sushi roll to start which was absolutely excellent. The tuna was extremely fresh and the flavors complemented each other perfectly with a hint of spice at the end. We had the pleasure of sitting directly in front of the sushi chef who was extremely authentic by trade and an art of his craft. As for the Ramen, I had a Veggie Ramen bowl and my partner ordered the Beef Brisket. His broth was flavorful and the beef was tender and yummy. I wasn't too impressed with my Veggie ramen due to the scarcity of veggies and rather plain flavored broth. The veggies consisted of tomatoes, avocado, cucumber and corn. This is quite a small sushi/ramen place kinda randomly placed on route 9, but it has good food and great service. My friend and I ordered their miso ramen and the spicy titanic roll. The noodles in the ramen had a nice texture and the broth was good, not too overly salty. I usually don't eat raw fish often, but the sushi we had was mixed fish (not sure what the mix is made of) that tasted fresh. Really good sushi, but painfully average ramen. We had an order of Tan Tan ramen and one Miso ramen. Tan Tan is my favorite ramen and this one had no bite or pop, and was bland as bland can be. The Ajitama egg was hardboiled with a solid yolk in both bowls. The miso ramen was also bland and boring. Chiharu's ramen lacked Umami and the complex flavor profiles normally found at Boston's best ramen joints like Ganko a Ikketsu, Isshindo or Santouka. That being said, I would recommend Chiharu for the sushi. The rice was perfect and the fish was mouthwatering fresh and of high quality. The prices are very reasonable and the service was okay, with just one server who also doubled as the hostess on a busy Friday night. read more

This was the first restaurant that my fiancé and I tried when we moved to Jamaica Plain three years ago. The sushi was so fantastic we both had actual literal tears of joy in our eyes. I think that we were eating the mango island roll when the tears hit but it was really the cumulative experience that brought us to that point. If you've ever seen the show Shintaru the Sweet-tooth Salary Man it was pretty much like when he blasts off into sweets induced nirvana. Recently started a search for ramen in Boston because my son, remembering having had really amazing ramen in Seattle and Vancouver, said he wanted it for his birthday meal this year. Challenge accepted... after a bunch of research (i.e., talking to people and reading yelp reviews), we decided to try out Chiharu. For one thing, they take reservations which makes life easier. And they have beer and wine, which makes life... oh but wait, onto the food: We started with a couple seaweed salads, which were delicious and in generous portions and some Shumai shrimp dumplings. My daughter had the Kiss of Fire special maki roll, and the rest of us had Ramen. I definitely recommend the Tan Tan Ramen. My son had the Shoyu, which was a rich pork base, but the Tan Tan adds a spicy peanut element to a rich, creamy and lighter pork broth. I'm sure this is some bastardized Chinese element in unholy matrimony with Japanese Ramen purity. I don't care, and neither should you. Ramen was toothsome, egg perfectly cooked, and the pork was awesome. As some have mentioned, where do they get that pork??? because it has a really great balance of mouthfeel fat and texture, not like most American pork which can be tough and dry. Service was very attentive, and the space is small (all tables were full, with people waiting on a weeknight) but inviting, modern and clean. Will definitely be back, maybe for an all sushi night next time. read more

Their rolls are 1-2 dollars more expensive compared to some of the other places but they are also a bit larger. Parking is difficult but that isn't their fault. read more
