It's tough to find authentic Mexican food, but Chiles hits the nail on the head! The margaritas were fresh and the queso dip was delicious. The tacos are really top tier! I got the chicken, al pastor and carne asada. For me, the al pastor takes the lead. This place is cute and tucked into a small plaza. The service was a bit slower, but the restaurant started to get pretty busy for Saturday lunch and it picked up. Delicious!! Absolutely delicious! The food was amazing! We got the three Mexicana tacos the Al Pastor was mouth watering good and so was the Asda. The 3 Flautuas (idk if I spelled it right) kids meal was great! My daughter loved it! Everyone cleaned their plates and the beans were amazing! They had a rush of people and there was only 2 people but they did amazing! Our food came out hot and they kept our drinks filled and chip basket too! Chiles has grown to be my go to for good Mexican food. Good comfort Mexican food. There are so many great options in Tampa for Mexican food, but some of it is more Tex mex, some of it is just too expensive because of the area, but chiles is my go to spot. From tacos, to mole dishes, to molcahetes. Everything is fresh and made to order. They can accommodate large parties and parking is a bit difficult depending on how busy they are. Inside is very cozy and decorated with Mexican decor. Lighting isn't too bright, and music isn't too loud. There are TV's and a bar, so they seem like a cool place to also catch a game and get some good Mexican eats read more

Oh was I so excited to find a place that had lengua (cow tongue) tacos! We came here on Mexican independence day- the ambience was chill, not too loud. The staff were very attentive and generous with the chips and salsa. My partner had a breakfast style meal that came with tortillas, rice, beans, and eggs. He said that this place was one of the best Mexican restaurants he's been to in the Tampa area, more authentic than many others he has been to. read more

I just tried their food as take out, but I really enjoyed it. I went in on a Saturday for lunch, and there were only a few customers in the place. The female server brought me a menu, and since they didn't have birria tacos, I went with the shrimp tacos platter, that came with rice and beans. I also ordered a side of the guacamole with chips. The food came up surprisingly quickly and I was on my way. I loved that when they ring up your order, it gives you a QR code on the receipt, so you can pay that way. So convenient! I really liked my tacos which were packed with shrimp, and the green and red hot sauces that came on the side. I will say thought that without adding the hot sauce, the shrimp didn't seem to have much flavor. The rice and beans were fine. I liked the creaminess of the guacamole, but I thought it was a pretty small serving for the cost. Close by my house and very tasty, I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more

AWFUL SERVICE! This experience happened two months ago. I initially wrote all of this out in a Google review but never got any feedback. Then last week, I went to a different Mexican restaurant where I wrote on Yelp about an amazing experience I had, and the owner responded, which is why I'm copying and pasting the review here now. My fiancé and I order food from here all the time. Not going anymore! This was the first time I personally go in to pick up an order and it was awful. I went to pick up a to go order of 4 tacos yesterday on a Sunday around 4:45pm. When I arrived I said hi to the person behind the bar, a Spanish speaking woman who asked me for the name, I told her my name for the order and that it was four tacos. She went to the back and while I was standing at the bar there were a few men drinking beer and one of them said hi to me and tried to give me a fist bump, so I just ignored him and felt super uncomfortable. I was also in a hurry because my newborn was in the car with my mom and I didn't want her to get fussy. So while I waited I asked the same server if it was going to take long because I had called about 15 minutes earlier to place the order and they stated it would be ready in 10. She checked and said it will be right out, so I asked if I can go ahead and pay. She took my card and went to the back with it and then came back out and started doing stuff behind the bar without addressing me. All the while I'm standing there next to the drunk man feeling very uncomfortable. I asked her if she had my card since I also didn't like that she just went to the back with it, and she very rudely told me she is not my server and that my server will be out with it soon. I was so confused and told her I didn't have a server, this was a to go order.. and that she was being very rude. This whole interaction with her was in Spanish by the way. She argued with me saying she's not being rude she's just telling me that my server was in the back, which made no sense because she is the only person working there who I had interacted with since I walked in. She walked away and shortly after another older woman came out with the food and my card and looked at me apologetically as I lodged my complaint with her about the other employees behavior. She asked me what happened in English and I told her in Spanish that the other lady was being rude to me and said she wasn't my server. She just seemed apologetic but didn't say much. I am so upset at this situation because we used to enjoy eating here. I would have asked for a manager but again, I had my mom and newborn in the car and it had already taken long enough. Later my fiancé mentioned that the tacos weren't good, specifically the pork one was bad. Very disappointed I had to experience an employee being so rude for no reason. She did not have a name tag but I'm hoping the description and time she was working will let management know who this was. read more

It has been difficult finding Mexican food that stands out as better than average. Chiles is definitely a standout. We were greeted & seated & well taken care of. I ordered the 2-enchilada lunch special. My choice was ground beef enchiladas with green sauce. The portion size was plentiful & the enchiladas were tasty & above average. The ground beef had tasty seasoning cooked in it. The green sauce had a small amount of spice to it which was perfect. The rice & beans were fresh & tasty. The only disappointment was the complimentary chips & salsa. The salsa was incredibly bland & dull. Still, Chiles is going to get my repeat business. read more

This is the best Mexican food I've been able to find in Florida! We are local to Orlando and stumbled across Chiles a couple years ago and it is now a staple when we are in the Tampa area. The service and food have always been incredible, and I can't recommend this place enough! read more

Authentic Mexican restaurant right here in Tampa! This is why Yelp is so cool. I would have never gone to this little restaurant without Yelp. Great quality food, and very nice servers. I ordered the Burrito Colorado with pork. The pork was cooked perfectly. It was packed with shredded pork and some rice in a mildly spicy brown sauce. The refried beans and rice on the side were very good too. My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas and she really liked her dinner. My daughter got flautas and hers were excellent as well. This is not American style Mexican. So you won't get as many vegetables in the wraps. What you will get is sauces that have deep flavor, meat that has better flavor, and the sides are better as well. If you've been to Mexico or the southwest you know. I'm so psyched to find this little place. They have several Mexican beers and a few others. Carry out or eat in. You'll be happy IF you like more authentic style Mexican food. It gets busy with locals at dinner. You might want to come a little early. I can't get enough Mexican food and recently while trying to figure out where to get dinner, I realized this place was close by and I had never been despite hearing so much about it. That ended up being one of the best choices of the evening and service was fast and friendly. Chips and salsa are complimentary and out very quickly after being seated. I ended up doing the Ranchero Burrito for my entree. This was by far one of the largest burritos I'd ever seen, and it lasted me a couple of meals as a leftover. For the last two years I've been eating at this restaurant at least twice a month. Sometimes once a week. It's close to the office, it's convenient, the food and service are good. I usually order the same - three Mexican tacos with everything. Portions are generous. We've been twice now and ordered chicken fajitas and white cheese dip each time. The food is delicious and our first visit was amazing, so much so we went back again two weeks later but this time the service was horrible. I'd understand if it had been busy but the waitress had the only two tables in the place (there is a bar but the bartender was handling those). It took twenty minutes to be offered a drink, then another 30 minutes for cheese dip to be delivered that we asked for at least THREE times and it was brought so hot we couldn't eat for another few minutes. Then as we've finished with no drinks as refills were never offered we wait another 20 minutes while she chats with the bar customers. No apology, no acknowledgment of the wait. We were very friendly (always am due to the huge fear of someone spitting in my food ). Food is good but the service ended it for us. The place is a nice corner spot off Columba across from La Teresita that never disappoints. Service was great along with the atmosphere. A very solid and satisfying little Mexican joint! I got the burrito suizo with carnitas and my partner got the four enchiladas, two being steak and the other two being chicken. The highlight for me was definitely the carnitas-- super tender and juicy, plus the burrito was packed to the brim with it. Everything else was pretty alright, very filling but didn't blow my mind. We went for Taco Tuesday and on the board it says ground beef and chicken is the $2.00 taco special. We told our waitress we were here for the Taco Tuesday special. She advised it's was for ground beef and chicken. I told her two American Tacos one beef and one chicken; then two Mexican Tacos one beef and one chicken. I order four American Tacos to go. My sister in law ordered two American Tacos beef and chicken. The order came out quick, and the food was good. We got our bill and we were charged FULL PRICE for the tacos. We asked and she told us it was ONLY for the Mexican Tacos chicken or ground beef. No where does it was just Mexican Tacos only for Taco Tuesday. She took the checks back and only adjusted my Mexican chicken taco. I guess she thought beef meant Steak. We will not be back. read more

Im mexican and I approve this restaurant. It's hard to find authentic Mexican in Tampa but I'm so happy when I stumble into these gems. We are typically not on this side of town so we gave it a try for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. Chips and salsa meet you at your table almost as soon as you sit down (a spicy salsa and a non spicy salsa). Chips are fresh! Between my husband and I we ordered the carne asada meal (the carne could use a tiny bit more flavor), a taco Al pastor solid 5 stars, a cheese enchilada in green sauce 5 a solid 4 stars, a carne asada solid 5 stars. Hard to find authentic Mexican food in Tampa, but this place in Columbus drive in front of La Teresita Restaurant is a good choice to try out. They have good variety of mexican food on their menus and their food is delicious. Me and my wife ordered their fully loaded nachos as an appetizer and we didn't expect the colossal plate we were about to received. I also ordered some shrimp tostadas, which turn out to be not bad at all. Most of their food is delicious. The staff are attentive, but just keep in mind that on the weekends it does get busy, so they might end up taking a bit more time than usual. The wait is worth it though. My only suggestion when you come visit is the hot sauce. Dont expect it to be hot and spicy when they serve it with the chips. Ask them to change it for the green chile sause or the red hot sause they have if you are into the hot stuff. Another suggestion when you visit is to order the Molcajete. Hands down! that there, will be the best thing you will ever eat. Its so huge, you wont be able to finish it. You can always share with your friends or if you're on a date, that could be something you can share together. read more

We loved the ambience of the restaurant. We sat at the table and we were greeted by our server with Chips and salsa along with water and menu. After having discussions we decided to order dinner which included Taco Americano, Ensalada de Pollo, Jalapeño Poppers and Burrito Simple Vegetarian. We had to wait for 20-25 minutes before we got our food. The food was delicious and amazing. Loved the food and tasty. Food was cooked properly and it was hot. Excellent find on Columbus Drive!! While seeking out an authentic Mexican lunch destination, I came across Chiles. The area is ridden with all kinds of mom & pop Mexican restaurants and taco joints so it was hard to pick a spot. Very glad we stopped at Chiles! Parking is tight out front so you may need to park on a side street but it's worth it. Sat at the bar on this particular Sunday afternoon and the staff was wonderfully friendly, checking in constantly and all were super patient while we ordered. The menu has a good variety of options and the prices can't be beat ($1.99 for a taco!) and they offer exotic choices like lengua and tripe. I enjoyed a lengua taco and ceviche. OMG so fresh and such a large portion! They offer wine and beer selections but no margaritas unfortunately. The Micheladas seemed to be pretty popular, but I opted for a Corona. I found a secret treasure! This restaurant blends in among the many different storefronts and restaurants along Columbus Ave and believe me, it ain't pretty on the outside or the inside but my goodness, the FOOD! I eat here about once a week and it one of the highlights of my week. I could chug the queso and I love the chicken enchiladas. They have this crazy food channel- worthy fajita bowl that comes out looking impressive like a volcano about to blow and you know it is good because you see about 10 come out the kitchen in a 30 minute period. I think it is called a Molcajete but please don't quote me. The staff is cool and they are starting to recognize me.... The service is fast and friendly. Parking is decent too since they arranged for an overflow lot. I have brought a number of friends and family and they are now addicted as well. read more
