The Skinny Margarita was pretty good, I upgraded to Lalo Tequila. For our main entree we ordered the Chicken Fundido Burrito. This was ok and one order came out with steak. So after getting off our boat at the Port of Tampa, we were ready for lunch at somewhere nearby. We walked by JoToro, saw the Michelin recommended sign, and turned around to eat here! Plus, they had outdoor seating! There were 8 of us and were seated outside right away. Our server was attentive and fun. My friend's espresso martini was very strong. But she drank it all! I ordered a coke zero with free refills ($4). The taco salad I got was sooooo fresh, delicious, and as long as you didn't eat too much of the taco shell, pretty healthy! Yes, you have to pay for chips and salsa ($6) but do not skip getting this! The chips were warm and the salsa was homemade! This isn't your local Mexican dive - this is upscale Mexican food in a lovely part of Tampa. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area! We had a small mishap with our wait (it was very busy + a lightening game happening downtown), but they were able to resolve the issue and get us seated. This is always a nice spot to visit for us. The queso dip was a bit disappointing. It was yellow cheese queso and very salty in my opinion. I always order the chicken enchiladas in the verde sauce and they are always delicious. Had a very good experience at JoToro Kitchen, food and service were great. We got the chips with 3 dips. The salsa, queso and guac were all delish but be warned the queso is yellow not white and I do greatly prefer the white. The chips are thin and crispy which I love, the salsa is smoky and not spicy at all so it's even good if you have kiddos with you. I got a Bull Margarita in the 22 Oz sipped cup which was delicious and not overly sweet at all, definitely recommend and you can get a discount on refills in that cup which is great. The tacos were full of meat and delish but on the greasy side. It was hot as the had the doors open on a hot it's day. Future Christina, it's time to drink around the menu. I came here with my family at around 5:30 p.m. on a Friday. There was tons of seating available. I ordered the hot carrot, which has been my go to, but this time there wasn't anything on the rim and it was extra spicy. I actually wasn't a fan. I tried the Fast and Furious flight next, which has their standard marg, prickly pear and a blue, coconut flavored one. The standard marg was fine, but I didn't love the rest. My husband got a skinny marg and that was pretty good. There are so many fun drinks on the menu that moral of the story is I should try other ones. We started with the chips and salsa and they were very good. I just got the drinks and chips since I knew my kids wouldn't eat their whole meals (which they didn't). They both got a cheese quesadilla. One got it with fries and the other with chips and queso. This was the right decision, because both kids ended up liking the queso. My husband got a chicken enchilada. I wasn't a huge fan, but he seemed to like it. Service as friendly and speedy. This is definitely one of my fav places to grab a quick bite. read more

For our first visit, we decided to enjoy lunch outside on this beautiful day with full view of the Sparkman Warf sign off to the side. It was a low clientele early lunch type of day so the place wasn't hopping yet. We were happy with our server, who was attentive yet didn't overdo it. We were happy with our lunch cocktails that had just enough punch to them to be yummy good. I was very happy with my entree. I mean, can a burrito really make you VERY happy?!! Why yes, it can, when done right. The ingredients were fresh and they had the perfect blend of seasonings and food to make me want to go back again as I'm writing this review :D The burrito was big, so some take home was definitely in order. Hubby's too, as he got the Gringo burrito (which was good but not great). The ambiance and downtown channelside location are nice, and with the good food, $20 per burrito felt about right. So to answer the magic question if we would return, I'd say yes! If I'm in the area and in need of some Mexican, I would come back. Maybe try dessert next time! read more

We visited Jotoro for dinner after a long travel day and our first time in Tampa. It was so conveniently located near our hotel (The Embassy Suites) and the Benchmark International Arena. We couldn't decide on a margarita flavor, so we opted for the margarita flight. I got the on the rocks flight and my husband the blended flight. We both thoroughly enjoyed those. My favorite was the prickly pear, and my husband's the raspberry. We had an order of their traditional guacamole which was divine. Fresh chips that weren't too seasoned, yet could hold their own too. I ordered the birria taco plate while my husband had the shrimp taco plate. The rice and beans that come with the plate were very good. The beans almost had a Smokey flavor to them which I've never experienced with beans before but enjoyed. While I was worried two tacos were not going to be filling, I was wrong. They were decently sized and the meat portion was generous and worth the cost. Emma was our server and she was fantastic! Personable, timely, and very informative of the menu and business itself. We went last week and were still talking about our experience here. If you're on the fence, give it a try. Chances are it will be worth it to you like it was for us. read more

Now I enjoy a good smoked brisket and other food as made but the whole dish seemed to be overly smoked. Even my wife's chicken just had an overly smoked flavor. Not sure if this was from the grill or marinated in something. Probably both. Now the steak enchiladas was good. Again I like smoke flavors. It had some great richness with it and the enchiladas sauce was great. The down side is the cost of sides. $4 just for some rice, beans and lettuce is a little steep on such a small plate. I guess that the down side of this place really. They seemed to nickel and dime you for almost everything. I normally see this at high end restaurants but this is not that type of place. Now would I come back. Yes! The drinks here are amazing. If you are doing a bar crawl or in the area looking for a drink. Stop by! I had 2 drinks one being The Bull. The chips were also super fresh and crisp. -Drink were well made and really good. Cons: -Main Dish: Chicken Fundido Burrito. This is where the stars were lost. The chicken was quite fatty, I got a few bites with gristle (which is a huge turn off). The burrito was also incredibly smokey, which I personally do not care for that flavor profile and really wish that was well-stated on the menu. Smoky flavors are often very strong and if you are not a fan of it, or expecting it... it can be surprising and a bit of a let down. My hubs also had a meal he said was smoky too. Which is fine, but please put something on the menu to let people know (that way they can pick something else if not a fan of those types of flavors). Overall, it was an okay experience. I think this was be a good bar hopping place to experience but not sure about meals unless you really like smoky flavors (which many do like and love, just not for me) and I think they could do better on meat selection/cuts. read more

I don't know why the reviews are so low, the food here is amazing! The chips were light and flavorful and each dipping sauce was so good and tasted fresh. My only complaint is no free chips and salsa. While prices are a little high, it makes sense because of the large portion sizes and quality. I got the taqueria salad without the tortilla bowl and I still barely made a dent in it. Bonus points for the fact that it already came with chicken. I also recommend trying the chipotle ranch as the vinegarette is very light and vinegary. We also got the chicken cheesy burrito and another chicken burrito. They were ginormous and so tasty. My family audibly said wow. We are big Mexican food connoisseurs so it takes a lot for us but jotoros definitely hit the mark. read more

JoToro Kitchen and Tequila Bar was just on the border of good for us. This place serves up fresh tacos and other latin cuisine but my wife and I found it pretty pricey for what it was. We ordered Chips and guac. $14. And the guac was gone way before the chips. Maybe it was made fresh in house but for that price, more than a small scoop would be expected. My wife ordered Birria Tacos. You get 2 of them for $18. Great flavor. They had a zing and were a bit on the messy side. They may have had a bit more filling in them than you normal tacos Mexicanos but I'd much rather have the 4 tacos for $10 at the restaurant down the street than these. The same for the tacos I ordered. Two chipotle chicken tacos for $18. They were filling and seemed to be mostly veggies on top with the chicken hidden down in there. The sides of rice and beans were sufficient but didn't blow us away for $6. The service was friendly and we came at like 11am so it wasn't super busy. A quick, tasty but pretty pricey lunch. Let's start with the portion size... maybe it's because I'm from CA that I'm used to smaller portions, but JoToro does not hold back on portions. The Trinity is an app good for 4-6 people. All three components were really good with the guac being the best of the three. The Taco Salad was good. Bar service was attentive though slow to start, but I think they were short on staff with a loaded bar. The guys were friendly.
