Basically your average typical Mexican restaurant. Nothing here was particularly interested, memorable, or outstanding. I came in here on a Saturday afternoon as I've walked by here 100s of times, but never once stepped foot inside. I did like sitting inside and people watching. Up first, I had the $5.95 street corn. I love corn! And even better, I love street corn. But this street corn was pretty blah. Nothing memorable, or all that great. The best item I had here was a $13 La Tina. Now that I would actually come back to order again. I also tried a $14 Strawberry Picker. That drink was like chugging sugar. I don't recommend it. For the entree I had $15.95 Steak Chimichanga. It was fine, pretty standard. Certainly pretty cheap. Maybe come here again just for a La Tina. I'd probably skip ordering food. read more

It's been maybe 2 years since I've been, and I really did like it and always recommended it to people. However I went this week with coworkers for lunch and it wasn't how I last remembered. Drinks are premade (which only was a problem as one person wanted to make an adjustment and they couldn't to the drink), and they don't offer mocktails: also the water didn't seem cold. We ordered chips with salsa and guac. The salsa felt like it was maybe from a can/jar and the guac my coworker felt they had that sitting for a while (like the color wasn't a normal green guac but like it got brown to the top and was scooped out). Comparing it to other places with chips and salsa with drinks in downtown, we were a lil disappointed to say the least. read more

A quick stop at one of my fav place downtown for Mexican before a show at the Straz turned into my last visit ever! Shortly after receiving our food there was a large roach crawling across the top of the booth next to us. Eye level!!! I was so disgusted I spit out my food. I told the server and showed him the vicinity where it was. He came back and said manager would take 50% off our bill. We had taken maybe 3 bites and obviously lost our appetite. The fact our entire meal wasn't complimentary blows my mind. People from kitchen even came out to look and laughed. So disgusting I'm never returning. I know there are roaches, rats, etc in eating establishments but to see one live in The dining area is a different story and for management to be so dismissive is awful. read more

My friends and I chose Urban Cantina in Brandon for our friendmas get together, and what a fun festive experience it was! We started the meal off with a nice queso, and I love the hint of spice of the creamy queso with their crisp chips. I opted for the veggie taco and the elote and it was just the perfect portion and the flavors were on point. I couldn't help but have the Christmas taco for dessert and a few of us tried those as well as the churros. What a deliciously sweet ending to a wonderful meal. The place was decorated for the holidays from top to bottom, with lovely twinkling lights throughout, presents hanging from everywhere and giant holiday blowup figures out front. Casual downtown Tampa pub with Mexican food. I didn't find anything special to recommend. Noisy place with TVs playing sports games and music playing in the background. The food was good but not epic. Had the steak Quesadilla that came with 3 pieces. The steak meat was good with a drip of cheese but no real flavor. Also shared the chicken burrito that had above average shredded chicken. All white meat and soft. There was a bit of jalapeño inside- of course I told the waiter no spice! Which he neglected to say the pepper was hot. It came with a small tad of rice and beans at the sides of the wrap but not through out. Therefore it seemed like tied chicken after the 1st bite. I got a side order of beans but the refried beans came not the black beans for an extra charge. Not happy about that but said nothing cuz it was given by another server without a spoon- h Judy a plate filled. Not thrilled with the service. Being from NYC you would feel better if they could understand or hear you. The waiter seemed distracted and overwhelmed. There's a few sections to dine in. The bar area has outside bar stool seats. Would this be in my top 10 recommendations? No! Walk on by- the popular place is touristy and not very good. Don't let the crowds fool you. People get drinks so they think the food is worth it. They also try to sell the taco with horrible milk- cheese melted sauce. I saw many tables leave it to be tossed. Just to make me more disappointed!!! When they were brought to the table the meat came first then a couple minutes later the sides then a minute later the tortillas. They should have all come at once. STAY AWAY!! This place is infested with roaches! I went about a month or so ago and saw a live one laying on its back. Told the waiter and he was rude. Then the girl at the table next to me started freaking out because one crawled up her back and he was sitting against the booth!! A bus boy was coming out and attempting to use a broom to sweep them up as they were running everywhere. Everyone had their feet up and was appalled. Then people were pointing out more and more roaches coming out of the crevices. In total we saw 6 massive roaches and this was during the day so I can't imagine how many are back in the kitchen or how many come out at night. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND WOULD NEVER GO BACK. Ordered 3 tacos and was so excited they let you mix and match! I think the tacos were good; however, all 3 were placed in the same foil so the juices from one soaked into the others and made the tortillas soggy which made them difficult to eat and the flavors blended.
