Stopped in because I was craving a burrito and this place is nearby. Overall it doesn't feel like the cleanest spot and I doubt I'll return. I waited a few minutes for the worker to literally just get up from a chair where I could see her in the back and come to the front to service me. Nevertheless, I proceeded on and got a taco bowl. I asked if the nacho chips or the taco bowl was fresher and was told that they both were just fried. Unfortunately, the bowl was not crispy, more soft and flaky. The meats that were in liquids looked like they had been sitting for a while, so I decided to go with chicken. The chicken was pretty salty. The fresh ingredients looked fresh enough, so that's a plus. The olives tasted like they were straight from a can, which threw off the flavor. I guess they didn't have a big enough to-go container because my taco bowl was placed in a boat and then wrapped in Saran Wrap and put in the bag. I didn't notice until I got home because I was perusing the drink cooler for a Jarrito while she was packaging it. That was weird. The staff was very friendly, so I appreciated that . I tried this for the first time and did a build my own bowl. The bowl was decent. I would definitely run in there on a day where I don't want to cook, but I also feel like it's nothing to go above and beyond for. The meat was seasoned very well and tender. I got half chicken half steak. I will say I'm normally not a side person, but I really had a taste for some chips and salsa so I ordered some. I was quite disappointed in the salsa. It tasted like watery tomatoes. There was no other kind of flavor. so I just use the chips for my bowl. maybe next time I'll try the guacamole read more

While he was finishing this older woman came out of the back and was not only so rude to this worker but also to us. She messed up my order and blamed it on the poor man. Chili Peppers is a cool tanqueria on E.185th that is well worth the trip. It will remind you quite a bit of the long gone Que Tal that used to be on Coventry a while ago. Occupying two storefronts decorated in warm colors and south of the border decorations you can direct the construction of Burritos, Tacos, Quesidillias or bowls using quality ingredients, similar to the approach used by Chipotle, but with more flavorful results in my opinion. I ordered a vegetable burrito with refried and black beans, rice and the vegetable medley. Of the toppings I would strongly recommend the sauteed onions and the guacamole, both of which are excellent; I also like the chipotle salsa which provides a nice smokey flavor with a good amount of heat. The burrito itself is huge and it is well worth grabbing a bag of the freshly made tortilla chips, nice and crispy with the right amount of salt. Chili Peppers provides a great local alternative to Chipotle, excellent food in large portions at a very reasonable price. If you are near E.185th and feel like getting some good Mexican food, give them a try. read more

I go here for lunch sometime and the food is always very good. The ingredients taste fresh and more authentic than other restaurants and the prices are very reasonable. Chili Peppers is on fire! Stopped in after a trip out to Euclid and I was craving some good mexican food. I was sick of chipotle so i was like lets give it a whirl. Upon entering i was a little confused because its really a hole in the wall. The decor is all over the place, grease stains on the wall, teenagers running the counter. But to my pleasant surprise the food was really really good. I had the beef nachos which were packed high and loaded with toppings. I definetly got my moneys worth with this batch. Paired it with a nice lime jarritos and i was good to go. The staff were kind of all over the place, and a little bit annoyed but they were teens so i didnt expect much. The restaurant itself needs a cleanup, there was food on the floors, the windows were filthy, definite health code violations behind the kitchen doors. but hey the food was as good as mexican in cleveland is gonna get so i cant complain much right? all in all you can feed a family of 4 for under $20 which is a win in my book! read more

I was looking for something in the neighborhood I was passing through for a quick bite. It was a pleasant surprise! I did not expect much judging from the exterior and also interior but the food was decent. The waitress was very nice, she helped me introduce to their menu and helped pick my dish. It is nice for vegetarians because I could see all the ingredients. It is just like Chipotle and Qudoba, I will give it more stars than Qudoba but less than Chipotle. Food tastes good and fresh. The restaurant associate that served me was extremely unsociable. She was very unfriendly and seemed bothered by having to provide service. The food didn't make up for the poor service. Everything was sitting in boiling water, and wasn't as fresh as I'd hoped. Especially after hearing how fresh all the food would be. Consistent, local, chipotle style restaurant, but they have some big differences. First up is the grilled onions, always filled with flavor and melt in your mouth. They a vegetarian meat sub which is a mixture of zucchini and peppers it is filling, and packs more flavor than the tofu option at chipotle. The rice isn't filled with oils, think more of a Spanish style rice. There are two different lettuce options, a spring mix and a classic ice burg option. You can get cilantro and a squirt of lime and the corn doesn't include purple onion. The chips are corn based on my flour. You can also get wet burritos, nachos, quesadillas, soup and a tasty Mexican iced tea. The salsas have more of a traditional taste, like you would try at a Mexican restaurant. There is a chunky mild, hot habanero, my favorite is the chipotle. You can get a small side of guacamole on the side or pay extra for a large serving. read more

This place is SMOKEN great!! I went there today with my boyfriend. I got a chicken taco and a steak taco. They were both fresh, delicious and made to order. My boyfriend got a burrito which was massive and also tasty. You can get the burrito grilled after being made if you want! The restaurant it self is clean and simple. No thrills but comfortable. If you liked Que Tal, you'll love Chili Peppers. Much bigger selection than Chipotle has with the same sort of setup. They have a few different homemade soups on the menu - soup is always a plus in my book and mad props if it's homemade. Proprietors are very friendly and accomodating. I remember this place being an all night diner about 10 years ago. When I say remember.... well, I'm not really sure if that's the best word. I have been visiting this restaurant for several years now, but it saddens me to say that I am not as pleased with this place as I used to be. It is great for my 1/2 hr lunch, because I am usually in and out. One time, I was excited to have others go with me only to be embarrassed by both the service and food that day. The manager had a pretty good staff and the line was moving. Yet he rushed my guest in their order. My one guest changed her order for the sake of rushing and was not pleased with her meal (nachos to go-sloppy). My other friend ordered tacos and when they got back to the office to eat, they had a piece of plastic or tape in their food. I waited a few weeks to go myself and requested a salad in edible bowl. The server offered toppings and guacamole was one of them. When I get to the register the manager says you know I'm charging you for the guacamole, it's extra. I let him know I wasn't aware and he said well I will charge you half ($1). My option should be that he won't charge me because I wasn't informed. I am so disappointed with the manager more than anything and although he may be kind, he is the one that has made my last 2 visits unpleasant. Chilipeppers is the epitome of not judging a book by its cover or...the restaurant by its store front! Inside, this dingy looking spot is banging out the best quick Mexican food in the area for the price. Chipotle style ordering but fresh ingredients in their natural form, not covered in oils and butter. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, bowls ...you name it. I always dig the build your own soft tacos with chicken and ally favorite fixin's. He's a big burrito guy with pork or steak or chicken...they are good. Homemade chips and salsa are perfect with the meal and their home made hot sauce will make any spice lover come back for more. I actually took a bottle home for $2.50 last time I was there. Truly as good as it gets for lunch food. Like Chipotle, but with a better selection of ingredients. It's a local neighborhood joint and you know its a good establishment because the same workers have been there the past 4 years. Plus if you go in regularly, the owner recognizes you and gives you free chips. It's also the perfect amount of food. Where Chipotle leaves you too full and makes you sluggish in the afternoon, you eat one of these burritos and its actually energizing. And while we're on comparison's to Chipotle, these guys take wayyyyy more pride in wrapping their burritos. Many times a Chipotle brick will fall apart when you're eating it. This is tightly wrapped - you could throw it against the wall and it would stay intact. Plus Plus you get an old-school Subway-style punch card to get a free burrito. Love this joint. read more

My family mostly orders take-out from Chili Peppers, but it seems that there is ample and comfortable space for dining in the restaurant if desired. That said, we regularly order the same thing and are thoroughly satisfied with our choices; quesadillas and taco salads. The ingredients are fresh and we can order and get tasty food quickly and be on our way. Although the service is fast, I don't consider this fast food. The gal attempted to take our order after we got transferred to another employee because they "didn't need two people on the register." Understandable!
