My gf and I were planning on going to mahalls for a birthday/graduation celebratory bowl and chicken sandwich only to be let down by a "closed for private event" sign. We sat down and ordered a smorgasbord and of course a Pacifico (the only place in Cleveland I've seen appreciate having Pacifico stocked). Being from SoCal I'm a bit of a burrito connoisseur. Cilantro satisfies. Ohio City is pretty good. But TT itches the urge for a burrito. Sauces are scrumptious. Not many places get the correct toastyness of the tortilla blanket. Steak taco was so large I couldn't even finish. Steak was juicy and the cheese with it sealed the deal. Ingredients tasted and looked fresh. Portions were great for the price. My meal was under $20 and I am more than satisfied. Would make time to stop here again if I'm ever around. This place was a cute LITTLE Mexican restaurant right on Madison Ave! We got sat right away (which was nice) but once we got our waters... it seemed like we were being rushed a bit to order and eat fast! I ordered a steak taco and got a bunch of add ons (as you can see in the picture... and yes it was hard to eat)! The taco itself was VERY delicious, i recommend getting the two layer taco for a different (but fun) twist on a taco!! I also got a side of their smoked chipotle sauce.... also amazing... but only if you can handle the heat! (you have been warned) and to wash my delicious taco down I got a house margarita which was VERY refreshing!! definitely recommend ordering this at least once... but you might want more! My friend picked the strawberry margarita which was also yummy!! After we were finished eating, we were asked to move to the end of the bar to finish our drinks so they could seat someone else to eat... which makes sense and really wasn't a big deal but we were almost done & kinda rushed the whole time..so it would've been nice just to give us 5 extra mins! I've been a fan of Taco Tontos for years. Just recently went for the first time in forever. Some things remained the same and some things changed. I'm happy that their great quality food and menu has remained the same. I saw old favorites and some new items that interested me. I had my teenaged daughter with me, who opted for the El Biggo Nachos. She gets nachos everywhere, but these impressed her. I sampled and trust me I will be getting them next time. She chose her toppings so they were just right. I got my usual steak burrito with all my favorite players including sweet potato. Just as I remembered. Perfect. Unfortunately, what did not remain the same as I remembered is the service. Nothing was wrong with our order. The staff just wasn't very friendly. I felt like I was interrupting something. We stood at the counter while the kitchen staff peered at us for a few minutes. No hello or welcome, just stares. Someone else came along and helped us, but the energy was the same. Very off putting. I was very impressed with the food here! The food and drinks are excellent! This has quickly become one of my favorite Mexican places in the area. It is very obvious that the food and drinks are prepared from scratch and fresh daily. I decided to go with the cheese-burgerito which is pretty much a burger and cheeseburger in one. I love Mexican food and typically go with just a chicken burrito but I decided to go with something different and fell in love. The quesadillas are also large and can be split between two people. We've eaten at Taco Tontos on and off over the past few years and tonight am glad we stuck around. Their taco's and burritos when done right are really good and unique in the many customization options available and the daily specials. Our first visit years ago was on a Saturday night for their pulled pork special which you can get as a taco or a burrito. Their tacos are twice the size as other Mexican restaurants and the crunchy tacos are very good--not greasy. That first visit though they were slammed and the pork was sadly dry and overcooked. It comes with cheese and slaw. On later visits though the special was good! We love their cheeseburgerito-- minus the pickles with extra chipotle mayo on the side. Our last visit though the burritos were burned on the outside. But they made up for that tonight. Beef, smashed redskin potatoes, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes onions ketchup mustard and chipotle mayo wrapped and baked is so good when done right! You can add smashed potatoes to any burrito or taco instead of rice. Great change of pace. A large queso for $6.50 where's the rest? Wouldn't order again. My favorite go-to food order is a taco salad with beef as my protein and kale as my greens! Any dish can easily be customized with a wide selection of toppings. Many options for vegans and vegetarians! The vibe is super chill, my experience with servers and bartenders have always been friendly and helpful, the owners are super nice, down to earth people. I love coming here! This is my favorite Tex mex joint, the food is fresh and never greasy. There are so many healthy options. One suggestion, my friend and I came and she brought her daughter along. Her daughter has a dairy sensitivity, and there currently weren't any dairy free cheese alternatives on the menu. I understand it's hard to make everyone happy however, but it would make lots of vegan diners pretty excited to see that addition on the menu! They used to have special Tequila dinners that were several courses, each course paired with a Tequila. It was a great way to learn about silver, Reposado, Anejo, and enjoy their different flavor profiles, with a gourmet meal. Cute eclectic little taco shop in Lakewood. I was here years ago but didn't really have a strong remembrance of the place so decided to try it again last weekend. Much larger than I recalled with lots of ample choices and selections for everyone in your group. Well they boast that their taco size equals 2 to 3 of most places I wouldn't say it would equal 3. We started with a chips and dip sampler. I judge just about every Mexican restaurant in chips and salsa and for me they fell flat. The chips were very dense and the tomato salsa lacked flavor. We did enjoy the vegan guacamole and queso. My tacos were good albeit nothing extraordinary. My husband enjoyed his tostado. Don't get me wrong. Unfortunately, I would not recommend online ordering through them. I did it often during the quarantine times and had no issues, however that has changed. With the Uber orders, dining customers and their own online ordering system, the online orders from their website are not prioritized. I was told a 6:45p pick up and showed up on time. The front part of this restaurant houses a small bar and some seating but there is a room in the back as well. I enjoyed the lively color on the walls. We split the dip sampler $9.50 which was vegan guac, corn/pin apple salsa, and queso. It was devoured quickly. I ordered the special drink some kind of apple pie mixed drink $8. It was not good. I ate the whip cream off the top and the glass was still full when we left. My friend ordered the mango habanero drink (I think) and it was pretty tasty, sweet with a kick. Disappointment was reversed when we ordered our burritos though, my burrito was accidentally labeled wrong and given to another. My friend was like "I think I just ate a pickle, this tastes like mustard...". She was a bit sad to discover that the wonderful tastes happening in her mouth did not come from her burrito, but mine that she had to give back.
