Am I reviewing the restaurant or the waitress? Read for yourself and you decide... Hopefully, this will make you smile? I normally don't frequent chain restaurants but this time I had to make an exception for one specific reason... Stacelyn =) And like my GRILLED SHRIMP SALAD, oh so yummy! My colleague and I were doing a store service call the Best Buy location next door and I gave him the option to decide where he'd like to have lunch (my treat)... He promptly suggested Chili's. Okay, I guess... Little did I know, I was the one being treated =) Upon waiting for our seats, our hostess promptly sat us booth near the bar, perfect for lunch right? Who would've 'thunk it' that I was not only going to enjoy my meal... my service (with a smile), too! Along comes this ANGEL to take our order... She had jet black shiny hair, beautiful brown eyes, fair/ soft skin (like a baby's butt) & sparkling white teeth that brighten the room. Then when she spoke, it was like, music to my ears... It brought me back of those days of when school crushes were the thing... Don't get me wrong, I'm a confident guy, but... I was completely dumbfounded & speechless. Sorry, my colleague didn't get it... He asked, so what was special about her? Okay, okay, okay... Let me get back to the food. I ordered the GRILLED SHRIMP SALAD, which Stacelyn mentioned as one of her favorites. When the food arrived, I took my first bite... Whoa! SEX blew up in my mouth (no homo). The spanish/ cajun flavors blended very well with the lettuce with the contrasting textures of refreshing lime & cilantro. Hahaha. I really am getting better with my descriptions on YELP reviews, huh? The profound flavors seem to be heighten when your in the presence of... Now, don't get me started with the house unsweetened iced tea... Which obviously, was my excuse for me to get her to come back more often... And damn, I was thirsty =) For this one little moment in time, I was in my little piece of heaven. It's been a while since I went back... I often revisit that moment in my head. But after that, I didn't want to ruin it and going back and worsen my last experience... So to leave well enough alone, I don't. I LIKE THE NEW MENU BUT, BRING BACK THE SPICY LIME SHRIMP SALAD!! I went to this Chili's for a friend's fundraiser (which I appreciate the fact that Chili's does that- so high five up top for that!), and liked this location at the Otay Ranch Mall! I must say, it was pretty busy here but then again, you really can't go wrong with Chili's! They have great food and good service- that goes without saying but I figured I would say it! This particular Chili's is one of three that has changed it's menu. I figured "why change it when it's not broken?" BUT change is good! (I'm glad they kept the skillet queso though! ) I tried this citrus shrimp salad and was a bit disappointed. When you have orange slices, cranberries, and dressing that was citrusy- the tart level is just overwhelming! (I am writing this and write now my mouth is forming that face when you eat something to tart! You know that "kissy-face" look!) As per my families umpteenth visit to this restaurant, I believe that it has gone downhill. The service received both by server and cook was sub par at best. Between the server cracking sarcastic jokes to my family or my steak prepared dry, the entire experience was far less than desirable. I got a message from the new manager at chilis giving us free appetizer from the bad experience we had previously so I went ahead and gave them another try. We chose the guacamole chips and dip. It hit the spot! Those chips were ridiculously addicting! We had 2 orders! I got a Swiss mushroom burger and my bf got some baby back ribs. The burger was good nothing fancy. My bf wasn't really satisfied with his ribs but I find it pretty satisfying. The service was definitely better this time around! Thank god. I got to enjoy my food in peace. While I was gone, the manager went ahead and talked to my bf about their new management and asked if everything was good. Turns out... Everything was definitely better compared to last time. This review is more relevant to the bar area. Chili's has a great happy hour and very friendly bartenders! My boyfriend and I are regulars and we love ordering off of their happy hour menu. You can get full orders of wings, egg rolls, nachos, and jumbo pretzels for $4.99 each and then there are half orders of sweet potato fries, Texas cheese fries, skillet cheese, and wings for $2.99. There are also great drink specials. The food is good; not very healthy ;) standard bar food. FYI the bar is always packed when there's a game on. read more

Second time coming here for desert and i was disappointed once again , ordered coffee to find coffee grounds all in it and being old and bitter. then we went to order desert and half of the stuff is out! We ate at Chilis yesterday after doing some shopping and I have to say it was probably the best Chilis experience we have ever had! We sat at the bar so we could watch the Olympics and the bar tender, Tamara, was engaging and provided quick service. Even when the place filled up she was able to maintain her attention to her customers and did not forget a single thing. The food, as always, was great. The Appetizer and 2 entrees for $20 is pretty much a steal. And the beers were fairly cheep, $4.49 for a 12 Oz draft Sam Adams Octoberfest. Great experience, and great job by Tamara! read more

Like many Americans, I enjoy profanity. I enjoy it so much, that I often forget I'm using it. It wasn't until I was at Chili's the other night that I was brutally reminded. We were sitting in the bar area, enjoying their terrific happy hour, when I noticed a middle-aged woman at a nearby table continually turn and glare at me. It wasn't until I noticed the kids at her table that I realized she was most likely reacting to my foul mouth. While I can understand a mother's wish to shield her kids from bad words, it might not have occured to her not to bring her damn kids to f**king bar! But of course, the happy hour menu is only valid in the bar area, so if you really want to save a buck on southwest egg-rolls, then your kids are also subject to learning all kinds of colorful terms, like f**k-face and a**hat, because I'm not going to censor MYSELF after long hard day just because YOU'RE too damn cheap to spend a few extra bucks on your ugly-ass kids! read more

Came here last night with some friends an hour before they closed. We walked in and was told the dining room was closed. Thought that was strange but then watching, there were 2 waitstaff and a bartender. The bar area was still pretty packed though, we were lucky to still find a booth. It took forever to get drink orders and food orders in. Although the waitress was nice, you could tell we weren't ordering fast enough for her and she was always on the move. Even after we put our order in, it took forever for it to come out. The food and drinks were good but again it took a while to get out of the kitchen. There must have only been one cook back there. All in all, good food but takes too long. This place needs to staff better. read more

Chili's what is going on at this location? You don't need a mask to enter this restaurant. You don't even need one to work here? I saw a few busboys in masks. But that was it? And before anyone says, "if you don't like it then stay home". I'm at least trying to venture out. Restaurants need customers, even hesitant ones like me. Another dissatisfying experience at the Otay Ranch Chili's. Of course, it's wasn't my first choice... I won a gift card at work, so thought I'd treat myself and the kids to dinner. I NEVER eat out anymore, so it's kind of special when I do. First thought was "any chili's but otay ranch". so we go to h st, where there is a 45 min wait. Not wanting to wait I decide to call otay ranch. 15 min wait. Perfect! Well, so I thought. I can now see why. I'm sure everyone would rather go ANYWHERE else before otay ranch chili's. but I had a gift card, so at least I wouldn't be paying much for it. I did call ahead seating for 5 of us. myself, my kids, my sister, and best friend. Yet, we still had to wait a few when we got there. It took us 10-15 to drive there around rush hour, so this confused me but I overlooked it. We were seated at the first table to right, as you walk in to the dining area. It didn't seem to packed at all. Knowing my past experiences, I specifically said to everyone "know what you want by the time she comes to ask for drinks, that way we don't have to wait if they forget about us". Well this did not help us at all. First, the drinks were wrong. I asked for a water, got a strawberry lemonade. She OFFERED to bring the kids food with the appetizer, which ended being more than 40 min after our arrival. cheese fries finally came. it was Friday so we asked for no bacon. both half orders came with bacon on them. 40 mins for 2 orders of JUST cheese fries, and who knows how long we would have to wait for new ones. When everything was wrong up until this point, she apologized and I kept saying it was fine, but I was over it. my dining experience was ruined. she was no where in sight for a while, so I flagged down the hostess to let her know I would like to cancel my meal, but my kids were hungry & would like to eat. She did bring us complimentary chips & salsa, but I don't allow my 2 year old chips since she can choke easily. And she was the hardest to deal with since she was hungry & we had been sitting for so long. I ended up allowing her a few to quiet her down, all the while sitting at the edge of my seat watching to make sure she wouldn't choke. I'm not a paranoid parent, but when she's hungry she tends to just swallow and not chew enough. I began to feel anxious and just wanting to get the hell out of there. She seemed very apologetic. A lot of things were comped, including my order that I cancelled but they brought out anyway. I felt bad for how I felt, but at the same time I can't help it. Over and over this location remains the worst. New management and kitchen staff is in order. Something needs to be done, I mean, there's a reason your wait is minimal. Plenty of restaurants right next to you. That's where people are spending their money to avoid you. read more

Ate here over the weekend with my favorite sister and her kids. Located at the mall. The first and obvious thing we noticed was that this place is kid friendly. I've been to plenty of restaurants with little ones, even loud little ones. Usually you get the stink eye from the staff and other patrons. Not here. With other kids and my own nephews just being themselves, we were welcomed which is always a plus. Now for the food. I had then Enchilada Tortilla Soup and 2 orders of their Salmon Entree. My sis had pasta and her boys had something from the kid's menu. My soup was good, cheesy, but good. Just wish there was a little more tortilla chips mixed in. As for my salmon. So good, that I had 2 orders. Give me a break, I was starving and it was nearly 2 hours since my last meal. The restaurant was a bit dead for for a weekend, but most restaurants at this mall is fairly quiet in the first place. The mall is even quiet. A Chili's, BJ's, and Applebee's are usually safe spots to find something to eat. read more

My husband and I decided to go to Chilis after a long week of work to get some drinks and a good deserving dinner .When we arrived we got a table right away that was a plus that's the reason for the one star .After that everything went down hill. A good place to go for cheap Steak & Mashed Potatoes! When I'm craving it, I go here because they're pretty good for a decent price! I usually go during the day to avoid crowds & get seated fast. Service is awesome! When I do come during the weeked, the seating takes longer but if you have good company, it can go by fast. But my grandmother, mother and I had to stand crammed against the door for 30 minutes waiting for a table ( it's graduation week so we understood restraunts have waits right now). So we were fine to wait. Until they told us 10-15 turned into 30 minute wait. Then two women came in and were seated immediately in one of the blatantly empty booths we have been staring at for half an hour. We ordered country fried steaks... They were terribly disgusting and my mother and I had a impossible time cutting into it. Was pretty much straight fat. I took one bite and it was disgusting with little to no gravy on it. We eat at Chili's fairly often.. but not this one.. we usually go to the one off of H Street. We sit in the bar.. we get great service.. There are usually a few servers in the bar area and we never have to wait to order. We have been to the Chili's on Birch twice.. The first time we sat in the bar.. and sat.. and sat.. and sat.. finally someone came over to ask us if we wanted to order. The food took forever and no one came by after our food was brought out to ask if we wanted refills, etc. We happened to be in this mall again today and were starving so we stopped in at Chilis.. the bar was pretty empty.. a few people sitting at the actual bar and two, maybe three, tables with a few people at them. We sat at the bar first.. No one asked us anything.. A group of folks came and sat down at the table behind us and were immediately asked what they would like to drink.. So the husband and I moved from the bar to the table next to them.. A few minutes passed and we were asked what we would like. Two diet cokes. When the guy brought our drinks he spilled half of one of them all over the table and said he would be right back to clean it up. Several minutes passed and he came by and asked us for our order. I reminded him that he needed to clean up the spill .. so he brought over two napkins and sloshed it around a bit.. left the table damp and sticky..didn't top off the drink or anything.. just asked us what we wanted. So we ordered.. A steak quesadilla and an order of fries. 20 minutes later the food arrived.. Remember .. NOT busy right at this time. 20 minutes. When the food arrived we had to track someone down to get utensils and napkins.. The fries were cold .. the ketchup at the table was empty and my quesadilla was pretty much two tortillas with some steak and some grease .. Couldn't find the cheese anywhere.. and when you picked up a slice of quesadilla to eat it.. everything fell out of it and you were left with the tortillas and grease. Stop me if I'm wrong here.. but the main ingredient of a quesadilla should be queso.. right? I really couldn't find it anywhere in my meal. So yeah.. won't go back here. I think part of the problem was that the bartender was also the ONLY server in the bar area.. so he kept running around trying to fill drinks and take orders and deliver food.. Pretty crappy management at that place... We'll stick to the one off of H Street.. They seem to know what the hell they're doing. The only good part about this trip was the little tablet on the table.. we were able to check how much we owed and toss the money on the table without having to wait endlessly for our check. read more

Lousy service! My husband and I decided to eat out. We were at Otay Ranch Mall and picked the Chili's at Otay Ranch Mall. After we were seated no one acknowledge us. We still proceeded and looked at the menu, it took us only less than 5 min to decide on what to eat. We continued to sit and wait for our waiter. 15 min has passed and no one came to acknowledge nor offer a drink. We saw 2 to 4 waiters in black shirts and pants congregating by the door near the kitchen. There at least 3 other waiters serving other customers, we get passed on several times. After 30 min sitting and no waiter approaching us, we decided to leave. I informed the female receptionist about our situation, her reply was "sorry"!! I never got my order. I walked inside, two people were standing at the bar and nobody greeted me at all. Terrible start to picking up my order. I walked over to the ToGo and pushed the button. Nobody came. Someone walked by me, didn't say anything, and went to the back. I kept waiting. As I was waiting I could hear very loud laughter from the back. I guess they were having too much fun making jokes that they chose not to help me with my order. I waited almost 10 minutes and received no help. Luckily I only ordered online and decided to pay when I got there. With that being said, I walked out. Absolutely terrible customer service for the third time (I've only been here three times) more training and better staffing needs to be done because it's ridiculous. Even when its bad its good! We love going to Chili's, good family atmosphere, staff is great, they always take excellent careof us. I do dislike when there is seating available and they make us wait because the kitchen is backed up, I would rather you seat me and let me get a drink, just tell me the kitchen is backed up and I will wait to order my food!! Other than that, great food, great people, bar staff is awesome, Cassey is a great server, if you go and she is there you should request her! A hit or miss, somedays the service is slow and leaves quite dissapoint, but MOST of the time the service is quite good! Is one of the top Chilis in San Diego and Rudy will ensure that you are properly entertain, with his enthusiasm. I enjoy those mondays that kids eat free, and whenever the margaritas are on sale. i was craving chili's appetizer nachos and their quesadilla salad, so I ordered to-go. I asked for extra salad dressing and jalapenos on the phone. I get my food and drive back home; my appetizer nachos have no beans, no sauce, they're just cheese and chip. My salad, was okay but the extra dressing I asked for wasn't there. I called to inform them about the mistakes and they said they couldn't do anything for me because I did not pay with card; therefor they could not give me a refund. While reading another review they emailed her a free appetizer after a bad experience.
