I feel super bad for the guy working all by himself, serving the sit-down patrons and trying to help the customers at the counter. It took us over 20 minutes to get our two drinks at the counter. I was going to say something to the server, but I felt so bad for him that I just decided to turn to Yelp, hoping management will get him help/backup. It's really not his fault, he was busting his butt the best he could. There we two customers who came in after us. They wanted to order something at the counter, but it took so long that they just left. This dining experience unfortunately started on a high note and just kept going downhill. On the positive side, the interior is beautifully decorated, and we really enjoyed the Pacific Pearl, the appetizers, and the ube cheesecake, even though the ube flavor was very subtle. However, as the multi-course meal progressed, the quality noticeably dropped. Many of the main meat dishes were far too salty, and we actually had to send the rice back because the texture was completely off. When they brought it back out, it was only marginally better. The service was a bit of a mixed bag as well. The bartender was absolutely amazing, but the floor waitstaff could definitely improve, as we had to wait at least twenty minutes just to get a fresh napkin. If you order the Flying Trikstyle drink, I highly recommend asking for a shorter straw because the current tall ones make it way too easy to accidentally knock the glass over. Taste-wise, I also didn't feel like the dark rum paired very well in that specific cocktail. Maybe because I was dining with a larger group, an automatic 20 percent tip was added when I asked to pay for my own drink separately, which I really wish had been clearly labeled or mentioned at checkout. read more

It was our first time trying this place after seeing it on TikTok. So far, it was still a good experience overall, and I'd give it a 2.5/5 stars. The ambiance was nice, the staff were friendly, and the place looked elegant and clean. Service was a bit slow for lunch though. Food-wise, the bangus was definitely the star of the meal. The chicken and waffles were pretty mid, probably a 5/10. The lemongrass chicken tasted bland and needed more seasoning, and the rice wasn't fully cooked. We came in high expectations, hearing all the buzz/hype around their first US location. Upon walking in, we were amazed by the elegant decor and wait staff. The hostess appeared lost when seating us in a quarter-filled venue, as another person also offered to seat us as we waited for her to prepare the table. We ordered two drinks, pancakes, and the kare kare. The workers seemed all over the place. Hostess served as a waitress, waiters working as baristas, baristas becoming the bartender, etc. All this to say it took over 20 minutes to get our two drinks. The Buko Bomb was creamy enough, okay alcohol pour, but the coconut pulp kept blocking the straw (recommend straining out). The turon shake had the banana flavor but lacked the distinct caramelized sugar flavor. The ube pancakes came out first. It was underwhelming. For an elevated establishment, there was no aesthetic to them - literally a plate of pancakes. Their ube taste was evident, but they were stodgy - a thick and gluey texture. The tres leches sauce was a necessity but it was too thin and very little was given. After 30 minutes, enough time to nearly finish the pancakes, the kare kare came out. It was a solid portion for family style but cannot say the same about the side of garlic rice (ie, the ratio is off). They also DON'T serve it with bagoong nor with oxtail iykyk. It was decent but very one-noted unfortunately; and the beef WAS NOT fork-tender :( In closing, Bag of Bean sits in this limbo - a more traditional dine-in experience without the flavors from mom and pop shops of Mira Mesa or National City, but not as upscale as Animae. We prefer Tambayan, Manila Sunset, and perhaps even Gerry's Grill. read more

I've always wanted a "nice" sit down Filipino restaurant to bring friends to, and I think this restaurant does a perfect job of fitting that need. The food was delicious with decent portions, but the prices were very steep considering it was Filipino food and I know that cuisine is fairly affordable to make. The fish is cured in calamansi, chili spices and ginger. I loved this kind of keto recipe low carb diet. We also ordered the lechon kawali it's a crispy pork belly. I didn't get the full experience like everyone else, but this review is just for my coffee visit. I ended up having one of the best unexpected lattes of my life here. What made it even better was our server, Spencer, who was super patient with us and helped us decide what to order. Mark, our server was very kind and patient as we talked instead of deciding what we wanted right away. He made recommendations based on what people ordered the most. Parking can be frustrating depending on the time of day, but this morning was no problem. My coffee was good, although my dirty taro latte wasn't as hot as I liked. I did like that the taro was prominent enough but not overpowering. My tocino was plated beautifully. I tasted my sister's tapa as well. A big thank you to the cook - every bite reminded me of my mom's cooking- almost exactly how she used to make these dishes. I do wish there was more meat than fat on my plate. I cut out and did not eat most of the fatty pieces. I enjoyed my complimentary bibinka cheesecake at the end of our brunch. I had leftovers, and also ordered all three of the specialty cookies from the bakery- the Toasted Milk Chocolate Chunk Cookie, the Sans Rival Meringue Cashew Cookie, and the Ube Cheesecake filled cookie. We wanted to support this Filipino restaurant and decided to ask if they could handle a 70 people party for my grandma's birthday. They said yes and arranged a buffet style service where they would refill the party trays 3 times. Service was extremely SLOW. We came 30 mins late and the trays were all empty except a new batch of rice. People who arrived 15 mins before us said the first round of food were all gone and they had been waiting for the second round for over 45 mins... and so far the staff only brought out the tray of rice. Like what are we supposed to eat that with?? My family didn't eat anything beforehand because we wanted to make room for the buffet so we were hangry and frustrated when we arrived to no food. The worst part was that the manager came out at least 3 times to look at the trays and then return to the kitchen immediately. Each time the staff came out empty handed, we grew more upset. My aunts regretted picking this restaurant and gave it 0 star. Our birthday girl grandma didn't even get a plate of food until the second round which arrived almost an hour after the first round. It's honestly so disappointing. I'm still mad thinking about it. No way that was worth $30/person + tax and tips. I don't like writing a negative review on a new restaurant, but they have a lot to improve on. Food was below average. Pancit was too salty and didn't have enough protein. The vegetables in there were cooked unevenly because they were chopped too big and blocky. It's not like the traditional shredded veggies in pancit. The salmon with lemon portion was small. The tempura was crispy but not tasty. The curry was not thick enough. The only thing that was good was the roasted pork, but even that was gone quickly and wasn't refilled fast enough. The food was delicious and not oily like some Filipino restaurants end up being. It was very savory. It was a good serving and while we did wait for over 30-45 minutes, we understood it was made fresh to order. The mimosa flight was great, although we finished it before the food arrived. It is a bit pricey for Filipino food, but it was good. The wait and price would've been an issue if the food was bad, but I definitely enjoyed it. The service was great and I'd say please give this restaurant a chance and for the owners to probably put a sign of some sort out that it's not solely a coffee shop. The croissant was good, what's inside however, is so much less than I expected. The sinigang was very bland and needed more tamarind. The kare kare was pretty tender but the gravy looked like it was broken. It didnt have that smooth texture and it didnt have much vegetables. Now, the desserts part. The Spanish bread and cheese rolls looked burnt on the outside. But it wasnt bad. The ube flan did not taste like flan at all. Decided to stop by here because of all of the hype in the Filipino Community about this new business from PI opening. The decor and setup is beautiful. The place was empty with only 2 parties dining. More people need to know about it being here I think. I ordered from the to-go hostess station with the square payment kiosk setup. It's not self service, the hostesses punch in what you order and they get your pastry from the front counter display and the bartender makes your matcha drink. My Pandan Matcha cold drink was good. They may use ginger in their pandan mix bc I am allergic and I got hives and a swollen lip. I should have asked before ordering bc I drink matcha all the time and no ginger is added to the places that I frequent for it. I also have pandan regularly with no reaction. My Ensaymada Croissant was AMAZING! I LOVE THIS! The price was pretty high for $7-8 and it's smaller sized. It would be great if they could reduce the price of this small sized Ensaymada Croissant. I can go to Valerio's Bake Shop or Kababayan Bakery and get fresh ensaymadas for a lot less, and they are authentic. Overall, beautiful decor and good experience. My drink and pastry to-go was pricey for $18 and since I was not able to finish the drink due to a possible allergy, I gave 3 stars. There was a party of 9 coming in for a dinner so that made me feel good that they are getting the support and patrons to help them thrive as a new restaurant business. I called and I called, "Can I plug in and stay?" And John on the phone said, "Come right this way!" I plopped down my laptop, I opened it wide, With a Honey Cinny Latte all steaming beside. It was yummy, so tummy, with cinnamon cheer, The music was gentle, not loud in my ear. At four we got hungry, oh hungry indeed, So we ordered some dishes to fill up our need. The fettuccine chicken alfredo was there, A little bit salty, but tasty and rare. The bread and the butter -- oh goodness, oh my! They beat Texas Roadhouse, they flew right on by. The kinilaw sparkled, so fresh and so new, It tasted like sunshine all dipped in the blue. But Tina, dear Tina, oh what can I say? She brightened our meal in the friendliest way. If Tina's a flaw (and I joke with a grin), It's making her coworkers feel lesser within. But truly, the staff were all shining, all grand, They welcomed us warmly with hearts in their hand. I came with family on a Sunday. No wait at all bc there were only a couple people at the bar. We came before 11am and their lunch menu doesn't start until that time. The place is huge and it has a coastal vibe. It was really spacious and nice inside. We started with coffee and warmed up pandesal with butter. It was pretty good and balanced. Not too dense and it was fluffy. I ordered a hazelnut latte with oat milk and it was overly sweet. I had to order an extra shot of espresso. Overall all our drinks were sweet. The lunch menu is very limited. We ordered the kinilaw, pancit and burger & fries. Which was 3 out of the 4 items. I think they're still figuring out their lunch items. They say dinner has more entrees. Overall everything was flavorful and delicious, but quantity size could be improved for the cost. We enjoyed the meal. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. He kept us updated with our food since he said the staff was small that day. He adjusted our drinks bc some were not made right. I know they're still new and working out the kinks. I like the adobo dry, and yes, super flavorful. My husband ordered the green salad, one thing unique is, the vinegrette has the calamansi juice. The non alcohólico juice I ordered was Pineapple ginger calamansi juice, so refreshing!!!! Now, last but not the least... to die for... bread pudding! I truly love supporting our local Filipino restaurants, which is why it honestly saddens me to share this experience. I attended their Mother's Day buffet this afternoon, and even at nearly $80 per adult with a 20% gratuity, there were long periods when many of the trays were completely empty and just left a bit to be desired. I found myself checking back several times within the hour hoping the seafood dishes had been replenished, since those seemed to run out the fastest. With the pricing being higher than their usual Sunday brunch, I was expecting a few more seafood or premium options. Instead, there were small mussels, shrimp, and some salmon, and the tempura shrimp didn't come out until the very end. The tables were also placed quite close together, which made it a bit challenging to move between the dining area and the buffet without bumping into other guests. I do want to acknowledge that the ambiance was lovely, and I can only speak to the seafood options. I also want to extend grace to their team -- Mother's Day is an incredibly busy service, and I know they work hard to create a special experience. Best Sunday brunch buffet in Eastlake! Bag O' Beans is seriously underrated and such a hidden gem. They specialize in Filipino cuisine, which makes their brunch super unique and flavorful. The food selections were exquisite, the desserts were scrumptious, and everything was so satiating we left utterly stuffed! At just $39.99 for adults and $19.99 for kids (6-11), it's absolutely worth going back to. The customer service was next-level impressive too! I was so pleasantly surprised to stumble across this new restaurant in the Village Walk shopping center! We went in just for dessert and tried the bibingka cheesecake and Filipino lemonade. The texture of the cake was perfect and the flavor was sweet/savory deliciousness. Service was warm and friendly! Our server, Aila, was attentive and took great care of us. Fancy cafe in Chula Vista Eastlake Parkway area. Price is on the expensive side for Filipino breakfast but considering the location, service and atmosphere we tried it. Food is pretty good. We liked the dipping vinegar sauce end the side cucumber onion tomato salad. It gave it freshness alongside the Filipino sausage. Eggs cooked the way we asked mine was over medium and a friend had the over easy. Staff was friendly and place was clean. The only thing I would say needed to be better was the drip coffee. We were greeted by a cockroach the size of my shoe, which, in hindsight, should've been our cue to turn around immediately. There was only one other table when we walked in, but we decided to give it a chance anyway. We started with mocktails and ordered a few dishes. The service was painfully slow for reasons we still don't understand. Even getting water felt like a long-term commitment. But we pushed on. We ordered the sizzling sisig, kinilaw, seafood medley, and kare kare. About thirty minutes later, the food began to arrive, not together, but in awkward 10-15 minute intervals, so by the time one dish showed up, the previous one was already cold. The sizzling sisig was not sizzling at all, dry, bland, and honestly just sad. The kinilaw had zero acidity, was warm (why?), and somehow tasted like bubble gum. The seafood medley was cold, overly salty, and screamed MSG. And the worst offender: the kare kare. Cold, nothing like it should look, overcooked meat, two pieces of bok choy, maybe five green beans total, and it tasted old and borderline spoiled. We genuinely wanted to like this place. Even the server admitted it was bad timing, and the manager said they're "working out the kinks." We paid, left extremely hungry, and very disappointed. I like the vibe here. It's a nicely decorated, very large space. The bar is beautiful- I wish I would've taken a picture. We came on a night with live music. The songs were not filipino but the performers were. We ordered lechon kawali and the short rib adobo. I really loved the lechon but the short rib was missing the adobo flavor I love. The service was lacking. Our food took forever to come out and water was refilled once in the 3+hours we were sitting there. read more

Came in here with friends and let me tell you, my experience was great! Food- The food was delicious. I ordered the beef tapa with garlic rice and two eggs over easy. It was filled with flavor and the meat was perfectly cooked. I ordered the Pandan Latte, and loved it (not too sweet may I add). Service- The service was wonderful. Our waiter was extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. He helped my friend and I make decisions between the latees and was honest about most popular and which ones were too sweet. Ambiance- To be honest, I didn't not expect the ambiance to be what it was. From the outside, the restaurant looks like any small cafe, but once you step through their entrance, WOW! Perfectly decorated with Christmas lights, a tree, and the most beautiful color pallet of green, golds, terracota, and browns. The place was beautiful.
