The waiter we had must've been experiencing his literal first day...not on the job, on earth. It was like watching the semifinals of the Bad-At-My-Job Olympics. And before anyone pulls a hamstring jumping to conclusions, it was a Saturday early afternoon (3:45pm) and there are a total of 3 tables this guy was waiting. In between incompetence, he passed time living his best life chatting up the cook staff. And that was apparent when I ordered a rare steak and got what appeared to be microwave-nuked lunchable meat. Helen Keller's imaginary friend got more attention than our table did. The empty plates and unfilled drinks were forming the Island of Forgotten Dishes on our table. Again, before a fleet of single mom waitresses start grabbing picket signs and forming a lynch mob, I'm not beating the kid up for being new. I'm criticizing his utter lack of effort and how winter in Game of Thrones came sooner than anything our table ordered. And the fact he had the audacity to argue about what someone at the table ordered. This place needs a serious training stand down. What are the odds the waitstaff and the cook staff are joining forces to create a Mediocre Mid-Meal Mastermind Super Villain? They won. Clearly the fault of the management for allowing this type of lackluster service. Then again, not surprising with today's humanity. First time to visit this location. The hostess were very polite. Our waitress was great. The atmosphere was great. The coconut drink I thought was delicious but the person ordering it thought it was too sweet. My ribs were very tender. My Mac n cheese and fries were delicious. They were open on a holiday and probably had gotten slammed for lunch before we showed up. We could tell by the lack of welcoming vibes and non-smiles that our waitress didn't want to be there. Maybe just annoyed to have to work on a holiday? I ordered some chipotle chicken fajita salad where the chicken tastes like frozen dinner chicken, aka preservatives. Nice location off the interstate, but keep driving instead! Seated promptly and waited for 15 minutes with no waiter stopping to take our order. I stopped the hostess as she passed by to inform her of the situation. She took our drink and appetizer order and said our waiter would be there shortly. As a resident in Ruston, this Chilis has turned the block over the past few months. What went from long wait times and no servers and cold food, is now multiple seats available, tentative servers, and getting your food quick. Not sure if they got new management, but people seem to care about their job, look presentable, and value your time there. Food gets out quick, drinks are refilled, and requests are made. Chilis has become a known for us. It is certainly consistent and always comes through for us. Since my wife and I are both doing keto diet, chilis is easy for us. We do the fajitas and skip the tortillas. Many have complained that the restaurant was dirty but this was not the case on the day we dined. When I told them about the hair, they asked if I wanted a remake and when I received the remake it was made sloppy. I didn't receive any accommodations for this inconvenience. We usually love chili's, but our experience during lunch today was terrible. We walked in the door and we stood there without a greeting or being waited on for 5 minutes or more. I have to give this Chili's credit where credit is due. Sadly I see the 1 star reviews that exist and figured I should add my two cents to not scare away any potential customers that actually check Yelp first. This place is your standard Chili's and at that, is actually a bit nicer presented and the staff is even friendlier than most. My friend and I went on a girls night date here and shared the two for $35 deal (an app, two margaritas, two entrees, and dessert) and we were checked on frequently by the waitress, she even offered suggestions. She brought us extra napkins when asked, always refilled our drinks - nothing but exceptional. We were seated immediately, to address the other poor review, so perhaps that was a crazy busy night, not sure why ANYTHING in Ruston would have a 3 hour wait. That is ridiculous and for a place with no traffic, I don't see how anything here could be that populated in one given moment. However, reading the fine lines of the review - there was a special engagement going on which makes sense... I would've gone somewhere else then. Bad, horrible, awful. The absolute worst service and dining experience. Went for a birthday, waited over an hour for 4 meals and drinks. Server told us that because she wasn't supposed to be our waitress, she was having to serve us when she had time. There were maybe 7 full tables in the whole place with people.
