I am super disappointed with my visit last Friday at this place. My waitress was SUPER unprofessional, she cut my friend off when she was ordering, didn't ask how I wanted my food cooked, didn't bring out any sauce, gave me the wrong drink and when I mentioned it, she said "my bad" Then she never brought out my coke, and when I asked she said "oh you still want it" and proceeded to bring out ANOTHER wrong drink. She didn't take any of them away, even though I did not want them. Then while my friend was still working on her food she took the plate away, and tried to take mine and I got upset and I said I'm still eating. When it was time to pay It said to leave a note on how my visit was and she got upset when she saw me typing and started being rude toward me. We recently visited this Chili's restaurant late one Saturday. It was one of, if not the worst dining experiences we've ever had. At around 9:00PM, well after dinner rush, the place was a bit less than half full. We figured it would be a quick process to order eat and exit. Boy were we wrong. It started okay with a quick drink order. I also ordered a cup of their southwestern spicy chicken soup with chicken and charizo sausage. It came out piping hot and had a nice kick to it. So far so good. By then we had put in our entree order, mine being their baby back ribs, and my wife ordering their buffalo chicken sandwich. And here is when things went downhill. Close to 40 minutes later, no entrees. By now the place was maybe just 25% full. Our server had come by twice over this period promising our entrees would arrive soon. Yet 40 minutes later, customers who came in after us were being served, while we waited. At one point our server brought entrees to one of these later arrived parties, glanced over at us, and quickly turned away in what appeared to be embarrassment. Minutes later the manager came to our table apologizing for the delay, but not offering an explanation. He promised our order would be out soon and that he would pick up the tab after a 35 minute wait, which was really about 45 now. Okay we thought, free food. Well about 15 minutes the food finally arrived and again the manager noted there would be no check. If this is how it ended, it would have been alright. But the food quality was poor to pitiful. We had the feeling they rushed the food out to try and satisfy us. Wrong!!! The ribs were dry, especially the half rack with a rub. And there was little meat on the BBQ ribs. This was the poor scoring entree. The pitiful score fell on the buffalo chicken sandwich. The bun was stale, and what should have been a chicken patty dripping in buffalo sauce was a bland dry patty with a single, hardly noticeable teaspoon of the sauce. We pointed this out to the server who was really embarrassed, offered to take it back for a new sandwich, but by now we couldn't afford to wait another 45 minutes. We ate what we had and left. It is important to note that our server was fine throughout this visit, full of apologies. Whatever the issue was, it was all in the kitchen. The manager did the right thing as well by picking up the check. For these reasons they get a very generous 1.5 stars, rounded down to one. read more

Legit the best Tex mex in the United States. Chilis in Salem is a great family owned small town restaurant! I love the family atmosphere. I love all the old family air looms from the owner hanging on the wall and ceiling. It brings me back to my childhood on the border. I love going to chilis and drinking corona Rita's until I pass out. The chips and salsa is probably the best iv ever had and the fajitas are breathtakingly delicious. I always give my compliments to the great chefs here. They do it better than anywhere else. 11/10 stars There is a reason why there are always a lot of people here. When my fiancé and I decided on a night out we picked chili's because it was out of our normal region for restaurants. After a 20-25 minute drive we were greeted by a man in torn jeans drinking a soda at the door. The real host was too busy writing something down to take notice of us. The place is loud, like louder than your average restaurant. You go to relax and end up with a headache from the screaming children and kitchen noises. I would rate the food a B+ at best. The burger was undercooked then what was ordered, and the fajitas were chewy and covered in inedible skin. Even the "cheese sticks" were greasy. They claim to recycle their grease, well apparently it is recycled onto their products. They have a 2 for 20$ deal that most chain places have these days, but your better off visiting another chain with this deal. They did not have that many options in the appetizers section and the choices in the entree section are your standard fare. At least at some other chains then you might be able to hear your server. Overall the server was a nice enough girl, and as attentive as most servers are. It was a bit difficult to hear her over the noise level, and she did seem as if she had a hard time hearing us at points. She was fairly quick and made sure to get us our food out quickly, which is a saving grace. Overall from the moment we walked in it was one of the least relaxing places I had been in a long time, and I left feeling sick and with a headache. This is a typical chain restaurant that you see up 28. I've been here numerous times and one thing is consistent, the wait staff is very good. I have never had an issue with any waitress at this place, and have had a bunch. The food is hit or miss ranging from average to pretty good. 4 out of 5 times, the food is exactly how I expect it, but that 1 out of 5 isn't even all that bad. Maybe a tad overcooked or whatever, but still good. What I like about this Chilis is it's never super busy but not empty enough to wonder what's wrong with the place. Chili's was always my favorite chain restaurant. I love Tex-Mex. This location, however, is getting worse and worse the more I come here. The problem is the service. Though some say the food is a hit or miss, I for one never had any issues with the food here. I love the southwestern egg rolls, fajitas, and Big Mouth Sliders. Part of 5 or more? Stay clear. My husband and I take the kids here all the time. We are a family of 4. Food is hot, mistakes corrected, and with the 3 for $10-a frequent Alternative to the $9 fast food combo. Last night, we visited and were a party of 11. 8 kids (ages 3-11) and 3 adults. We got there at 5;40. 20ish min wait-not bad for a Saturday and unannounced large party. Once we sat-the issues just kept on coming. Waitress was "nice" but not overly friends or communicative. Since we knew they would be hungry, while we waited we had them all pick meals. When she came to take drinks-I said we are actually ready to order both. She took orders down. I asked for 2 chips and salsa w the drinks so we could keep the little ones From being hungry. At least 15 min passed before we saw either. As you can imagine, Chips went fast and with the salsa-so didn't the drinks. No auto refills here. When I come w just my family, we don't have to ask, if just shows up (even on a busy night). Another 20 ish min pass before we see her again. Ask for more chips and drinks. Don't know long it was, but long enough for both of my kids to finish what was left of mine. Starters from the meals came out. I was supposed to have 2 salads w the 2 for 25 deal. One salad came out. Not a huge deal at the time bc the kid who wanted it had fallen asleep. Lost track of how long it was before she came and said "oh, you didn't get the other salad". I said I'll Take it When we leave to go. Within minutes, back to the table she came w it to go. I didn't say anything because I was clearly not heard/ignored the first time when I said to go. So now the cold salad is in a box in a bag on the floor until we finished at 7:45. Yes-start to finish 2 hrs!!!!! Finally, I asked how much longer. We were all ready to go and do the $9 fast food Thing. "Kitchen is very busy". Ummm of course it is, it's Saturday! No other excuse? I didn't ask for a manager because we had been there going on over an hour and not once did we see one. Must be that kids meals Don't cost a lot, so 11 is Only important for adult meals? Kids meals were all standard. Mac n cheese or crispers. Nothing insane, nothing special made: nothing off menu. Meals came out (adults first)??? While every kid is now picking off plates bc they want food. Almost all have them except one. Had we not flagged her down, who knows when we would have gotten food. Allllllll through the wait time, besides Rock Paper Scissors, we we kept them quiet w "if you behave, we have awesome Desert coming". Well, they were behaved but no desert. We knew if we said yes, we would be another hour. 2hrs is too long for That many little kids. There is a reason families go to eat with the early bird specials-not just to save money! My last annoyance was by the time the check came, we were allllll so frustrated I said forget that I'm a member and we picked this place so I could get chips and Salsa to keep my points going-and didn't even mention it. Close to $200 of points I don't get, and now I'll get emails to come back before I lose my Status. At this point, we will look for another deal somewhere else and the points won't matter. Here is the update-party of 10 and we tried it again! Night and day different experience. Same situation-party of 10 on the weekend. Wait was a tad longer than quoted. Again, understand it's a quote and it's a weekend. Warmly greeted by Tania, our server. Amazing waitress. Kept kids engaged, never let a single drink go near empty, gave updates on food being ready. Steve, the Manager checked in many times to make sure our experience was a good one. He really visited all the tables around us-so refreshing to see. Food was served hot and fresh. Can not say enough good things. One thing different was we did a to go order and it came right before our check. Couldn't have been smoother. So now food for 11 adults (inc take out) and 8 kids, the bill reflected the right amount. Not only will be go again, but we will go again and again and again. Took my parents there who were visiting from New York.... Never again...person taking care of us (Lindsay) said she only had 3 days on the job, she apologized but never really told us what happened to our food... On our way out the manager appeared and gave us a $30 dollar gift card... We plan on using it at another Chilis... From 1:30pm to 3:36pm all we had was an order or Guacamole and chips that I had to asked twice about, 2 cokes, water and a chicken quesadilla for my daughter... The sole reason(s) that I enjoy this Chili's is because a) I like Chili's in general and b) I like how this is close to Best Buy and not far from the mall. This one is usually pretty good. My most recent visit was fine. I believe I had the bacon cheeseburger (which I typically always get.) I enjoy how the serve their sodas in a mug instead of a regular glass. Oh, and they do serve fine Coca-Cola products. Wait can be a bit busy especially on friday nights. But honestly, what good restaurant doesn't have a wait, especially on prime eat-out night like friday? If you want to skip the wait, obviously come at off-hours, not during prime time of 6:00-9:00. Will never return to this location. Ordered takeout and was told to text when I got there. I texted and sat in my car for over an hour while they had one 'waitress' running frantically from car to car (about 50 in the parking lot full of ticked off customers all in the same boat). The restaurant took their phone off the hook and provided no update to the angry customers that were lined at the doors not socially distancing by any means. We drove away after not receiving our meal and I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. The recent posts on facebook made by apparent other unhappy patrons confirmed that I made the right decision to just drive away. Shame on chilis for taking advantage of customers during times like these where we're trying to keep you in business by ordering from you in the first place. A few years back, the waitress dropped our food from the tray on the floor. We felt bad for her. We had to wait another 25 minutes for our food. The manager never offered us anything for the wait. I never was a fan of Chilli's. To my self I said, it will take a long time before I go back. Years passed. Went back with my wife. It took over 30 minutes before we got served, I started to get suspicious considering the fact that the place wasn't crowded. Food came finally, it was close to room temp. Went to this restaurant at 4:00, and left at 5:30. I wish I could give negative stars! Order two entrees and a kids meal, that all came out cold. All 3 meals. We ordered chicken fajitas for one of our meals, and there was no sizzling with the chicken fajitas plate... Always thought that was part of the show. Mentioned it to the waiter when he came back to check on us, and he said they would have the kitchen recook the food. Our food was cold again!! The second time around!!! I asked the hostess to have the manager come to our table, as our waiter disappeared, and she took care of our bill and offered a $10 gift card. We left the gift cards on the table. When we got our food, my friends found a small cockroach in her salad! We told the waitress who shook it off and said ' it normally happens because it's from the company that gives them the salad. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and have never had a problem with the food or service. In fact I often recognize the wait staff whenever I visit because I am here so often. However.. since reopening from the beginning of the pandemic, ALL of that has changed. They seemed to of hired people out of desperation due to the lack of people returning. The host was the most peppy person i've ever seen. She wouldn't stop talking when bringing us to our table. I almost asked her to stop talking because she was so so loud and would not stop. But it doesn't end there. My whole meal I could hear her voice echoing through the restaurant causing me to feel very annoyed. Leaving the restaurant was not good either. 2.28.19 @ 11:30 AM. The menu has been substantially revised since I visited this Chili's 4 months ago. Lunch prices are lower but so are the portions. Not bad though. My complaint to the bar tender was the 2 draft beers that I ordered, Dos Equis and 603 Lager were very flat. Their draft delivery system need some more nitrogen, I suspect. Food came with a hair in the plate in clear view of both the people who cooked the food as well as the wait staff, yet it still made it's way to the table. We've been to this one a few times - its sub-par compared to other Chili's. Food is hit or miss - but we've had pretty good luck overall. Our most recent visit was for lunch shortly after open - sat in the bar area - we sat there so I could watch Sportscenter - about 2 mins after sitting down - half the TV's in the bar froze and stayed frozen for the remainder of our visit and nobody seemed to care. With no TV to watch I noticed the table was sticky so we switched to a less sticky table. Decided to get on the "free wifi" - and it was also not working. Go figure. We ordered our food - took a bit but wasn't bad overall. Typical Chili's. Our waitress was pretty cool and service was good but there weren't many other tables seated. Went to the bathroom on the way out and found the men's bathroom was full of water - literally - water on every corner of the floor compliments of leaky faucet. Seeing that made me wonder about the rest of the place. If I had seen it prior to eating - I would have left. If I see a flooded bath at 10P I can blame it on a long day or a drunk guy - but 45 mins after opening is tough to justify. Again - nobody seemed to care that water was flowing out from under the bathroom door. The place overall has a "blah" feeling. The staff does the best they can and the service and food is good. If I had to guess - the overall problem with this place is management. You can't expect the 20-something wait staff to fix the core problems with a restaurant. Leaky faucets and TV/wifi down are things a good manager would get taken care of immediately. I'm sure we'll return but I'm in no hurry. I'll try to remember to update. read more

After all of the commercials regarding their new Mexican entree's I could not wait to try them. They looked great on TV and in the menu, yet they were horrible and we were so disapointed. I got the $10 Chipolte Cantina Bowl, it was very small, the bowl looked half of the size of what was featured in the menu. It was also cold, tasteless, the rice was undercooked and crunchy, the avocado slice was very small and there was aboslutely no flavor to the bowl at all. Chipolte is much better, and to me that is saying a lot. I am not sure if it is just the kitchen does not care at this location, as our meals were a mess, thrown together. My daughter was the smart one and she got a burger that was very good. The Enchillada meals were also flavorless and cold, and just unappetizing overall. I lerned the hard way here, when you want Mexican, best bet is to go to a real Mexican restaurant. The saving grace of the meal was our server, she was excellent. This location has been going downhill for some time now, we went for lunch and were told about this amazing new smoker they built, however we couldn't get the wings which are cooked in the smoker because they started the fire late and the smoker wasn't ready to cook on at lunch time. We took a break from Chili's but recently decided to give it another chance and sat in the bar area which was about 30% full. It took quite a while before the server came to our table and took the drink order and on her next visit to our table she delivered 2 sodas and took our appetizer order. The Skillet Queso came out was slightly warm and I actually was able to pick up the serving dish with my bare hand and I received the beer that I ordered when we 1st sat down. When the meals came out, she made a mistake with 1 of the 3 and she also made a mistake on the table next to us and this is consistent with this server because we had her before. So again very disappointing with the lack of service from the server to the kitchen and I was not surprised with the many other negative reviews posted for this location and Chili's needs to read then and correct these issues because there are many other food option on Route 28 and in the mall. read more
