Awesome food - the prime rib is awesome , end piece always available, seasoned well . Salad bar always fresh and soups are great- first time i had cream of mushroom soup, delicious! The restaurant has plenty of seating tables and chairs I went into the bar which is casual ambiance. Full bar with special drinks listed. The service is excellent very cordial and friendly. I came in for the Prime Rib at 5 on a Saturday. Got a booth right away--no waiting. I hadn't been here since the change in ownership, several years ago. Two sizes: 16 oz and 24 oz. I got the biggie, ordered medium rare, for $46. Yeowee! What a gorgeous slab of meat! And butter-tender! I would have enjoyed a little more seasoning, though. But not complaining -- I took most of it home! I am happy when restaurants are so proud of their food that they refuse to skimp on quality or serving size. The place has been moderately updated inside, but has the same standards for cleanliness and comfort. The staff is new to me, but all extremely pleasant and attentive. I go probably once a month spend close to $200 each time. This Last time on 3/15/26 was pretty bad. Only one other customer besides us. 12min before waitress comes over and 10 minutes for drinks wait for it 28 minutes for food to come cold and incomplete and cold too boot. His fried scallops plate was loaded with scallops (he made the comment himself that other restaurants usually give an abundance of French fries and onion rings and fewer scallops). He was happy!! His plate was full of scallops!! He loved the tartar sauce so much, our waitress smiled at him and brought him three!!! Their soup and salad bar was fresh, cold and clean. Each time a waitress walked by, they were checking to make sure it was stocked and neat. The chicken rice soup was phenomenal!! I had two cups!! Our waitress was an absolute love. This is an old-school restaurant. Dated in the best way. I would not change a thing. My sister and I have been coming here for years. They have consistently delicious home style dishes that have been perfected through the years. Their seafood is always fresh and cooked to perfection. There is something for everyone here. The wait staff are excellent, no matter how busy they have been we have always been treated like their only customer. My Sister got fish and chips with mashed potatoes instead of fries, and a side of butternut squash. Yes that picture is all thick white flaky haddock, no fries on that plate. I got the Cajun seafood sauté. Angel hair pasta was not listed, but I asked and they did it. It was nice and spicy with plenty of shrimp and scallops. Very unorganized and disrespectful front desk. Been a frequent customer for 55. years. always satisfied under original owners. We had reservations for Mothers Day for 4 weeks. They Wanted to seat party of 6 in separate booths. When we stated our displeasure hostess thru the menus on the table and said that's all there is. restaurant was not crowded. We asked to move with the waitress who we knew said she would check. Came back said nothing she could do. we left. Realized the rest of our party was already seated. Went back in front desk said they were. not. we went on our own and found them. We waited an hour and 40 minutes to get our meals. This is our second bad experience in a month. We will not be returning which is to bad as this was our go to restaurant!! read more

Food is good but not low cost. Their soups are excellent. Their hours say they are open until 9 PM and there were a few other people in there so we took a chance at 745 PM after a special yearly day event we attend. We cancelled our reservations at a place we knew we would have had a lovely time in order to give HT our business. Now we wish they would have turned us away so we could have enjoyed ourselves somewhere else because they clearly wanted to go home. It has a salad bar but they picked that up without even asking us if we wanted anything else from it (it is part of the meal or you pay 7.99 for it) they just picked it up at about 8:05 PM. We were not lingering we were eating as fast as we could but they shut off the music, most the lights and literally cleaning all around us it was clear they wanted us to just LEAVE. We finally just asked for a to go box. Someone kept flipping the lights on and off really fast over and over for like 5 minutes like LEAVE LEAVE LEAVE and we felt so thrown out by 8:25 PM. If you don't want late customers, change your on line hours or warn us. We would have gladly gone somewhere else. Plus, we couldn't relax and talk at our one time per year special outing. The hostess/cleaning lady even laid down in a booth next to us and said she was tired! It was a weird experience. Next year, we will not be going there. This is a place that seems like it's been there forever-- kind of a place for old timers. For example, you can get mashed potatoes with gravy with any seafood dish. The food was okay and we were hungry. The prices were a bit high but we were hungry. The seafood was all fine but the ribs my husband ordered looked like they'd been cut off of a brontosaurus. He said he'd never been so scared by his dinner. I would go back just to be waited on by our waitress. A woman straight out of central casting, a waitress you could only get in the Boston area. Had a great experience on Friday night and Saturday morning! I called ahead( Friday night) party 8- 4 adults, 4 kids. Asked to seat in the lounge so parents could play keno. Menu was great - hard to decide We started with French onion soup and Baked stuffed mushrooms -w/ lobster meat !!! Fresh rolls and butter were warm and delicious!! I'm being generous giving a 1 star if I could it would be negative star. Charged 32 for 4 oz portion of fried clams and cold fries. They managed to even mess up a turkey club.... Short review : Ripoff. To elaborate, we had their 5.99 salad bar and a cup of chowder with my wife. The salad bar was meager with 6" shallow salad plates with wilted lettuce. Also we had 1 ice tea and a water . The bill came to $52 before tip. You ask, how can that be? Turns out even thought the menu says $5.99 for the salad bar, it's actually $15. The cups of chowder ( mostly potatoes and flour) were $8 each (which we knew). I talked to the manager who was very condescending. She acknowledged the menu said $5.99 but said we needed to order a full meal to get that price. She acknowledged it was not stated as such on the menu but that was our problem. I've been going to the Hungry Traveler for many years and I always found it to be excellent. My favorite menu item is the prime rib. The last time I was there was a couple of years ago, and I just read a review from Bill M. from 4/29/23. I was almost afraid to go back after that review, but I did anyway, and I'm so glad! I got the prime rib, and it was just as tender and succulent and delicious as it has always been. The service was also great. I'm sure I'll be back again before too long. read more

Food is not very good, very greasy, overcooked fried clams. Very poor quality. The buffalo tenders were very good, homemade, no tendons. They were perfect. The French onion soup was also good. Perhaps they were just off. But if your used to really good food maybe this is not the place for you. read more

Of 3 meals ordered, got 2 warm and 1 cold meal. When I notified the waitress... she pretty much told me that if I still want a baked potato.. it will be a long wait. And obviously my 2 guests already are eating their meal so it's not cold! Very disappointing and was finally happy to bring mom and my fiance out to dinner. I took my meal to go coz it got to me when my guests were done eating. They could have given a discount, an apology... but no. I paid full price and gave a good tip for a lousy meal.
