A group of business colleagues got together for lunch today at this white tablecloth restaurant. The capital Grille provides a first class dining experience, even for lunch. From the white tablecloths to the kind greetings from every one working there, the dining experience is first rate. The serving staff is quick to bring water and warm rolls and butter. They quickly follow up with an ask of beverages. The menu offer a variety of sandwiches, entrées, and salads. I continued my healthy, eating plan and settle on a salad with salmon. The salmon seared entrée salad includes avocados, mango, cherry tomatoes with champagne vinaigrette dressing. You may need to ask for additional dressing as you don't get much. You do get a lot of mangoes and a few cherry tomatoes. The salmon portion is good. Generally, the entire group enjoyed their meals. This is the place we all agreed we would come to again. read more

Wow wow wow!!! What's a great place to celebrate my father's birthday. We made reservations for 6pm and they had an opening for us in the main dining area which was lovely. Our server was Rebecca and she was amazing and I highly recommend her as you can request your server. Now let's get to the food.. We started with oysters and calamari. Both were really great and I highly recommend them as starters, not too heavy. I ordered the Dry Aged NU strip au Poivre with Courvoisier Cream. I really enjoyed it and I'm glad I got the sauce on the side. Reason I like it on the side is because you can dip your streak inside or you don't have to use the sauce at all. We also had the lobster Mac & Cheese which was delicious. Had some huge chunks of lobster inside. Also had some of Sam's Mashed Potatoes which the kids liked. Oops!... I did it again. I booked a reservation at The Capital Grille....only to show up at the wrong one. Apparently in my over exhilarative state, I booked my rez at the Burlington location instead of the Salem one closer to us. So, take a lesson from me and double check the address before booking so that you don't end up as big a dingus as I am. Okay. Onto the review. As per our usual annual tradition for our wedding anniversary, we wanted to "go big or go home" so to speak. And let me tell you...CG is the place to do it. From the grand entry way to the overall decorum and jazzy music, you can rest assured the mood is set for a romantic evening to remember years over. Noise level of the crowd can range from moderate to noisy so....maybe bring a pair of earbuds if you're a misophoniac like myself. I wanna highlight up front that service was divine! Too bad I'm terrible at remembering names or else I'd grant our lovely waitress a shout out. I really need to start keeping my receipts until the review is written. Anywho.. Lobster bisque: This one wasn't even on the main menu. Apparently, it's classified as a special. The bisque itself was buttery with a rather generous portion of lobster. But it needed a bit of seasoning and didn't ring with that sherry flavor we're used to. Not to mention, it isn't finished table side like the menu said. Not a big deal, really. But if I could somehow combine the lobster portioning of this rendition with the bisque composition of The Nash Casino version we tried a few weeks ago, we'd have the ultimate lobster bisque. 8 out of 10. Lobster and Crab cake: Bloody hell is this ever good! I honestly couldn't get enough of this harmonious symphony of lump crab and lobster meat fusion. And the lemon basil aioli compliments it all brilliantly! 10 out of 10, every seafood fan ever needs to try this one! Cold filet sample thingy: Yeah...I have no idea what the $#!& this is actually called. Just know that it's tender and tasty as hell. They gave it to us as a sample. We didn't eat the blueberries, but overall....pretty damn good. Double Cut Lamb Chops: I say this without an ounce of exaggeration. But these could possibly be the tastiest lamb chops we've had so far! I'm talkin' a perfectly charred sear on the outside with an absolutely spot-on medium temperature nailed on the inside, and a benevolent portioning to boot. Neither of us are mint fans, so we skipped that part. But ultimately, it's a 10 out of 10. Sliced filet: Once again, the charred sear adds a level of flavor no words I type could possibly do it justice. I mean....life changing? You bet your ass it is! My one regret was not requesting the temp mid-rare because unlike many other steakhouses we've been to, CG absolutely nails all their temps with the utmost precision. Next time, I'll remember to trust the chefs more. Still, it didn't hinder the filet's tenderness one bit. Even the end pieces that were more mid-well tasted heavenly. Yes, folks - it's another 10 out of 10. Lobster mac: Wow. Just....wow. I can't even begin to describe how well blended the 5 cheeses are in this dish. We didn't need to add any additional seasoning whatsoever. It held a certain subtlety of sharpness without compromising any flavor. My one critique is that it was slightly lacking in lobster meat. Dunno why Ruth's Chris seems to be the only place that puts hella lobstah in their version. But it's no show stopper by any means. 9 out of 10. Overall, I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate 22 wonderful years with the love of my life. These folks definitely made it happen. Also, fun fact: I posted exactly 22 photos in this review. I swear I did NOT plan that to match up with the number of years we've been married. Funny how things work out, eh? Have been to many Capital Grilles around the country and they are typically on par with each other. The Salem, NH location is part of the Tuscan Village build out and they did a nice job of keeping the theme of most of their restaurants but having pictures up of athletes and astronauts around the main dining room. Have been to this location as the primary gust at least 5x since opened and countless as a guest as well. I would say the meals are usually very good HOWEVER, on holidays I would caution against this place. The food and even the mixed drinks are just off. The General Partner came over when drinks were returned on NYE and we told him they still were off and to just bring Bailey's and we would add it in. He said "that is not how we typically do it but I will get it for you and check back over." Someone else brought it over and we never saw the General Partner again. I guess he really didn't care...... Cream spinach had ZERO taste to it and we really didn't touch it. When they came to clear the table and they asked if we wanted to take it home would have been the time to ask questions but that didn't happen either. Steak and Scallops were as expected and the french fries were crispy as requested. Otherwise, not worth the price of admission on this night. The other really bad night was Mother's Day and that was a disaster from start to end. When another suit came over with the check and the only comps were the drinks and the Baileys he said "Well it is our first NYE and always things to fix." At this price point get it together before the customer shells out the same money regardless of the day of the week or the holiday on the calendar. read more

This past Saturday evening, we celebrated my mother's 90th birthday in the Boardroom, a nice quiet room for celebrations. We had the best time, the very BEST server ever, Melissa, who made are our celebration so much fun! However, last night was very disappointing, Our server was great very attentive but the food was not good........not for the $$$..... The appetizer was burnt and the filet mignon for both of us was very dry. our experience at this location was very disappointing. On Thursday, (due to a scheduling error with another Restaurant) the Capital Grille took a group of 20 unexpected guests in for lunch. They quickly banked two groups of tables together and even spread heart shaped confetti on both tables. The weight staff was outstanding. He was extremely professional and responsive without being intrusive, we were catching up and spent over 2 hours having drinks and dinner. We have been meeting there every Wednesday ever since. First visit for wife and I. Lovely location, easy to find parking. It has an impressive entrance area and overall decor - a modern, cozy classic steakhouse vibe. Reasonably quiet for an American larger restaurant. The staff is excellent. Anita, our waitperson, really looked after us. All of the staff (dressed very nicely in brown and black uniforms) were friendly and knowledgeable. Anita guided us through the menu choices and wine selections. The restaurant has a very extensive variety of wines. We chose a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from their wine-by-the-glass menu. We started with salads - the Roasted Beet & Goat Cheese salad (wife) and I had the Field Greens salad. The beet salad could have added a few more beets, heirloom would be special. The mix of goat cheese, citrus vinaigrette, and crushed pistachios was very nice. The Field Greens Salad had a nice amount of thinly sliced carrots, tomatoes, radish & onion. The Parmesan Vinaigrette was very complimentary to the fresh butter leaf lettuce. For the mains, my wife chose the seared tenderloin with butter-poached lobster tails. Plenty of each, and she requested it topped with the Kona-crusted rub. Very nice! I opted for the Kona-Crusted Dry Aged Bon-in NY strip with shallot butter. Very, very tasty. Swirling each piece of (rare) steak in the shallot butter gave a very umami level of flavor. The steak was cooked to perfection. For sides, hard to pass up the Lobster Mac 'N' Cheese and the Au Gratin Potatoes. Each side is really enough for two people. The Lobster Mac 'N' Cheese was very, very good, with plenty of lobster mixed in. Usually, you don't seem to get that in a restaurant. The Au Gratin was excellent, cheesy, and oniony as well. Those are two great choices! No room for dessert, but the choices looked excellent with cheesecake, crème Brûlée, coconut cream pie, seasonal berries and flourless chocolate expresso cake. Maybe next time. We were also looked after by the manager, Dave, which we appreciated. To top off the evening, Anita took our photo and in a few minutes, came back with the photo printed and mounted in a card for us as a moment of the evening. That is a very, very nice touch! So, overall, I've had equal or slightly better steaks at places like Buckley's (Merrimack) or The Library (Portsmouth), but the combination of ambiance, service, excellent food choices and quality, tasty food makes the Capitol Grille a winner! read more

I recently celebrated my 70th birthday and requested a nice quiet dinner. My husband made a reservation at Capital Grille in Salem NH, requesting Amy for our server as we heard wonderful reviews of her talent. I had the Tomahawk Veal Chop and my husband had the Ribeye with sides of Au Gratin Potatoes, sautéed Spinach and Asparagus. The veal and ribeye were cooked to perfection and the sides were all better than expected. Our experience was above and beyond what I had expected. Little did I know my husband had informed Amy it was my Birthday. When we arrived, the table was set up celebrating my special day, making our experience extra special. I ordered the Crème Brûlée for dessert, and again, WOW, it came out with candles and extra dessert wishing me "Happy Birthday". I ordered an Absolut Screwdriver and got the perfect drink with very fresh, and top quality orange juice. My wife and I both had steak and it was cooked exactly as we had requested. Lobster Mac & Cheese was its usual awesome which we have ordered before at the Burlington and Chestnut Hill locations. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and delicious!. Something happened in the kitchen and our dinner was delayed an hour but two different managers came to our table to apologize and they took good care of us... very good care of us. (We weren't in a rush so it didn't matter all that much.) It was my wife's birthday so they brought two small desserts to the table after dinner with a lit candle in each... Just the right touch because my wife had warned me earlier that she didn't want a birthday spectacle at dinner. This location is rather new and I'm not suprised that they are still having growing pains, but I'm sure all these issues will iron out over time and the hour we spent waiting at the Salem location would have been equal to the drive to Chestnut Hill. What I will say on the minus side, is that when the room is full, it gets rather loud. I noticed that there were acoustic tiles in a recessed area in the ceiling but all of the other walled surfaces were hard and very sound reflective. But, that's an architectual issue and there's probably no fixing it now. Another design/decor note: There's a huge, well lit, picture of JFK on the wall (painted with what I'll guess is reflective acrylic paint) and it's as if Jack is smiling from a television screen.
