Very kind and helpful staff, we went right before closing so I can't say how many flavors are out, but there was definitely: coconut, espresso, tiramisu, vanilla, and believe it or not: beet gelato. Definitely a hidden gem. I was vacationing in Vermont and accidentally came across this gelato place. I didn't have high hope because a lot of ice cream places are average but Chill is a pleasant surprise. I love rose flavor. It has a subtle rose aroma. It felt like eating a sweet rose. This was my first time visiting Vermont and out of the two people I was with only one knew the area. We walked around Montpelier and after getting some board games and books we came across this place. I love gelato and so does my mother. So we decided to try it out as we hadn't gotten a chance to have anything sweet in the last couple days. We walked in and it was small but had a very comfortable vibe. As we ordered what we wanted "Beautiful Ghosts" started playing by Taylor Swift. Mom asked what the song was and who sang it and I started talking to her about it and the woman who was working there joins in on the conversation asking if I like her music and saying that she hasn't seen the movie and overall being very friendly and was interesting to talk to. She then went on about how she played board games and my brother and I are very into the ones she had listed so we had a nice conversation about them. Oh my goodness! So good! Cute little, like 3 chairs little but so yummy gelato shop. We happened to stop in while visiting family in Montpelier after going out for lunch. The young lady scooping was delightful as she worked hard scooping, what seems to be very challenging, but smiled and was lovely all while doing a few things at once. We got a cone and a pint to bring home. It's a little expensive, $8 for a pint and I was skeptical at first but it was worth it! Come to Burlington! We had the strawberry and coconut. Amazing! Chill is the best thing that ever happened to my taste buds. Owners Nora and Theo Kennedy, and their daughters Aìne and Sasha are good friends, and we were surprised that they had decided to open up a business on their own in Montpelier. We are so happy they have been so successful! Nora has a wonderful knack of creating new flavors, most of which are completely new to the world. Like other reviewers, I love salted caramel and crème fraîche so much that it hurts to try something else. We are part time Vermonters and wish they could export their wonderful product to Boston. But I think it would be very hard to re-create the wonderful gelati and wonderful service from our wonderful friends. If you are ever near Montpelier, make a detour to the center of town and enjoy a little bite of heaven. read more

The gelato here is fantastic ~ truly top-rate :). Unfortunately, the customer service is terrible and the prices are outrageously high ($14 per pint ~ making this a once in a while stop only). {"Talenti" in the grocery store is less than $5 per pint and often on sale for $3-4}. You should also know that you cannot call the actual location. I very recently called ahead to order a pint because we were crunched for time. My call went to VM but was returned a few minutes later by the Owner who told me that if they weren't busy, (he was calling from his cell and was not at the actual location) they could have the pint ready, but if not I could just go in and they would pack it quickly(??). I said that another night might be better for me and I'd try another time because of my time crunch. He said, "I want to accommodate you", and that he'd call them and let me know, but then repeated that I could just have them pack it when I got there(??). Just as we were coming into Derby I received a text that the pint was ready for pick up ~ great! Not great ~ When I entered the store, there were no customers and the 2 girls working were happily chatting away leaning against the counter. I asked for my pint and they said that they needed to pack it. I said no thank you and also texted the owner to let him know. He did not reply. In hindsight, I am not convinced it was the girls fault. "If" the owner is reluctant to fill call ahead orders, and although "I" think it's a mistake, he should just say so and he definitely shouldn't deceive customers. Maybe they are so busy they don't and need my business? "I doubt that". I have been to the Derby Street location 4 times since the opening and have purchased 2 pints to go and every time I was the sole customer in the store. Ice cream is huge in Hingham! Every night, there's a line out the door at the local ice cream shop in Hingham Square. Gelato & Chill's gelato is delicious, but there are delicious gelatos at other such places as well as the grocery store freezers and at "much" more reasonable prices. At Gelato & Chill the $14/pint price, does not jive with the customer service. High-end and expensive restaurants do not survive on good food alone. If your only goal is delicious gelato then go to Gelato and Chill. On the other hand, if your expectation is to be treated honestly and respectfully and to receive good customer service at a "reasonable" price to go with your delicious gelato, I would go elsewhere. Why I won't return to Gelato & Chill? When I texted the owner to let him know that my pint was not ready, he didn't say "I'm sorry and I hope you'll try again another time", he said nothing! read more

I recommend the salted caramel gelato! This place is a great little gelato shop right in downtown Montpelier. When I was there they had about 10 different types of gelato and if you were unsure of what you wanted you could get a sample of all of them! Awesome customer service too. The woman (owner I think) that served us was super friendly and very welcoming to the obviously non-local group I was with. This shop is right near restaurants and the movie theater so it makes a great stop after dinner or after a film. read more

From the second you walk in to this place, you know it's the real deal. Bob Marley is jammin' on the speakers, and someone is there to greet you with a big smile and a welcome. Both the tastes and servings are extremely generous. Now to the important part: the gelato. When you walk in the first thing you see are a ton of hi-tech big stainless steel machines. Clearly, these people know what they are doing and are fully invested in creating an entirely genuine product. Not only that, but the process of creating the gelato is done entirely on-site from start to finish. When you taste the gelato, the expectations you've set from these first impressions are not only met, but surpassed. Simply blissful. I can safely say that is far and away the best I've ever had... and I've been to Italy multiple times and eaten my fair share of gelato. From the traditional flavors, like stracciatella or gianduia, to the more quirky ones like fig and goat cheese and mayan hot chocolate, honestly, every last flavor is delicious. This is probably the most unique gelato place I've been to. The homemade flavors vary by the week, with selections ranging from cinnamon to chocolate lavender to White Russian to Rose.( and of course they have the normal vanilla and chocolate) I chose the rose which was vanilla flavored with rose water... Very different and yummy in small quantities.. I would recommend sampling before purchasing since the flavors almay not please everyone. Now this quaint new gelato place (somewhat hidden) has recently been opened this past fall by a lovely charming family (also deaf-friendly). It was difficult to find at first, but I was relieved that I finally located it! It was on State Street on the same side as the Salaam clothes store. I thought I wrote a review when I went here during the fall, but I guess not. I love this gelato shop; I would go here so often if I lived here. The flavors are fresh and inventive, owners are nice, and samples are generous. The texture of the gelato is good too; it's mixed so that you get bits of ginger or whatever the flavor is you're tasting. I like Morano Gelato, but I love Chill! I've never had a large gelato at Morano but it's almost impossible not to get a large here. YUM. I doubt I'll miss an opportunity to come here when I can. Montpelier has so many great little gems, I can see why people like living there. I'm still not sure what Gelato is, but I LIKE IT! They had a great selection of flavors, which seem to change everyday. It is all homemade, and I think they invent different flavors as they go. Chill is by far the best gelato place I have visited in my life!!! From San Francisco's ice cream bars to New York City's gelato shops Chill rises above them all. This might be because of there personality and insightfully kind staff. All of their flavors are handmade from the most natural and delicious ingredients available and you can see the plump bags of pistachios and peaches resting on the black marble counters of the kitchen. The atmosphere is warm and cozy even though their product is, well, Chill. I highly recommend this gelato bar over all others and is well worth going out of your way for. Wonderful! From the perfectly-textured and amazingly flavored gelato, to the friendly yet efficient service, Chill is a great addition to downtown Montpelier!
