Got into a car accident and went through the other party's insurance (Geico) and this was the place that had the best availability for an appointment. I have a Prius Everyone was SUPER professional throughout the whole thing, especially because I was a little lost when I first arrived. The whole drop off appointment including the forms, walking out with the estimate person took only 20 minutes (I had damage to my bumper so it was pretty straightforward). They also partner with Enterprise so I got picked up from this location to Enterprise, and when my repairs were done I also left the rental car at Chilton and they took it back to Enterprise after. They also gave my car a light wash after everything was done. Very local business vibe and not over-corporate if you get what I mean. They were super communicative and called me 2 days earlier than expected that the repairs were done as well, and there's text notifications used as well. 10/10 experience of what was a large inconvenience, so I'm happy to support them! read more

This place was the first recommendation given to us by our insurance agent regarding some body damage that happened to our car when it was parked. After we took the car in for an estimate, they said they would contact us once they did whatever it was on their end. After more than a week, these guys never called us so when we inquired about the estimate, they said that they already ordered the parts and that we needed to bring in our car in ASAP. Of course we told them that they never contacted us to confirm this order/work and that they should send the parts back. Whether they actually ordered these parts is highly questionable. We let our agent know what happened and they seemed upset and rightly so. As you can see, most of the people that gave high ratings to these guys have very few reviews so extract from that however you want. I definitely wouldn't use these guys in any way in the future. read more

I brought my car in back in October for minor repairs to the lower left hand passenger side door. I have triple AAA insurance and although LA Smith and Sons was not a prefered AAA body shop we used them anyway because we had had positive experiences with them in the past.  It took approximately 3 weeks and the end bill was $6,248.36. The car look great so I wasn't going to argue with the cost and all we had was a $500 deductible.   A little over a month later I noticed rust coming through in the repair area. I couldn't believe it. I brought it back and the owner took a look and agreed it was faulty work and he would repair for free. Ok it was a pain, but fair enough. 4 days later I picked up the car and it looked as good as new. WOW Sure enough 3 weeks later I see the same rust appearing! WTF!  I immediately call and they say come on down.  Although there is now another name on the sign out front "CARSTAR Chilton Auto Body San Leandro" chiltonautobody.com/loca... The guy looks at it and says he will talk to the new owner.  I call a few days later and they say "Sorry, we will not be honoring any work done by LA Sons prior" WTF??!! I will post the pics shortly. I recommend if you use "Carstar Chilton" you make sure you know the affiliation and who will be doing your work. I will not be going back to this place and I will never go to another non approved by AAA vendor.  I am now stuck with paying out of my own pocket.  I found another reputable repair shop that said they will do it the way it should have been done the first time for $500-600. You would think Carstar would honor this work when you make a respectable transition from one firm to the next. Seems fair right. On June 3, 2022 I was in a scary freeway accident, and after consulting with State Farm, my insurance carrier, I contacted Carstar Chilton Autobody in San Leandro. Everyone who answered the phone was friendly, sympathetic, and efficient. It took 13 more days for State Farm to extract my little Prius from the original towing company, but they finally delivered it to Carstar on June 16. The whole time, Carstar remained available to perform the repairs. They communicated by phone and automatic text every time an estimated time occurred, advised when a part was delayed, and returned the repaired car to me on July 2. Unfortunately, on July 11 the car "hit a snag". The hard plastic shield under the engine detached and started dragging on the ground. I couldn't drive it! So the next morning I called Carstar. Tiffany answered the phone, and her immediate response was, "Bring it in and we'll take care of it." Then she asked if I had a towing service. (Yes, I have AAA.) I delivered the car to Carstar about 10:30 am. They replaced the broken shield and had it ready for me the same afternoon! No charge. Many businesses would have tried to weasel out of that second repair, saying it wasn't their fault. But Carstar Chilton San Leandro immediately took the position that I, the customer, was right, and fixed the problem promptly. I was extremely pleased with the service from the first phone call to the second quick repair. As an extra bonus, whenever there was a short delay on the phone, instead of boring '80s Burt Bacharach covers, I was treated to the simple piano melodies of early Mozart! read more
