Surfside beach is becoming a great little hangout spot. Golf cart community with parking for cars and golf carts right behind the restaurant. Ordered the Grapefruit Margarita (1st of 2 ) and hubby had the Tequila Mule. The drinks were so refreshing and perfect mixture of alcohol and mixers. We started with Queso Bean Dip and I could have made a meal of that myself, but I had to unfortunately share. My husband had the Sonoran Hot Dog meal with Jicama Slaw and I ordered the El Taco Salad with ground beef. The pictures don't do these meals justice. The waiter told me that the red pepper tortilla on the salad melts in your mouth and he was spot on! The salad was a very large portion and well worth $15. Interesting twist on Tex-mex style dishes. We ordered a few different items so we could sample more than one dish each. The puffy tacos are good and a nice change from most similar restaurants. We preferred the mojo chicken over the beef ones basically because the beef was a bit too salty. The chimichanga was crunchy on the outside and nice and gooey on the inside. We chose the chicken as a protein and agreed it was tasty and the right quantity. The plantains were cooked nicely and the drizzle made for a nice contrast. The other sides we tried were the yellow rice and hominy. While we liked the hominy we thought the rice was a bit bland. Finally, the fried potatoes were excellent. We waited 50 minutes for a table, upon seating our party we were informed that the right of us would need to share one menu as they only had eight for the entire restaurant. This place had a cool vibe! It was bustling, had a live musician that we really enjoyed! My husband ordered a grouper taco and a mahi mahi taco with a $4 upcharge to include beans and rice. I ordered the Birrias tacos with consumé. The service was fine but the kitchen was really slow. My husband really enjoyed his tacos, but felt the upcharge was ridiculous. My tacos were good however,the "consumé" was a tiny condiment bowl of something that tasted more like enchilada sauce. It really wouldn't take much for them to raise their game. Great service, dog friendly (even inside), and chill atmosphere. Great margs; dare I say my new favorite. They have this extra spice in the aftertaste (not heat) that I really dig. Food was really tasty and cooked/seasoned well. I came specifically for the street corn hominy and was not disappointed. It was creamy and delicious with a lil kick. Pros: very cute and festive spot with bar seating! Everyone we encountered was friendly and kind! The drinks my husband ordered were yummy (I stole a sip or two). My husband enjoyed his dish, but told me it didn't taste like the authentic Mexican we were used to out west prior to moving here. We also ordered the guacamole and it was good but nothing special. Cons: as a gluten free gal not my choice, I was really frustrated by their lack of allergy labels and mixed information from our waitress. I know my allergy is my problem, but our waitress (who was very sweet!) confused me by saying they didn't have corn tortilla chips, even though the menu said they used them with one dish. I know she was probably still learning so no fault to her, but I wish they labeled it so that I could feel more confident when I asked for modifications. Having allergies makes going out to eat very stressful and a knowledgeable wait staff and/or well labeled menu makes a huge difference! Overall: I was overjoyed they agreed to make me a quesadilla with corn tortillas because salad gets boring when it becomes the only safe option. The Good: Chimichangas are very good! The Bad: margaritas are terrible! We had a frozen one and one on the rocks. The rocks was drinkable but tasted like Minute Maid Lemonade in a bottle. The food wasn't very good - there are other MUCH BETTER Mexican food Restaurants. I'm not a fan of any Mexican restaurant that doesn't offer chips and salsa when you arrive, instead it must be ordered as an appetizer. There wasn't much flavor and the prices were clearly based on the location (not food quality). The service was awful. With our waiter leaving (he had to be somewhere we were later informed) and no one coming to assist us (ie bring us the check) until we waived someone down. We went for breakfast it was right across from our hotel and very convenient. The breakfast menu doesn't have many traditional options so keep that in mind if you are with a picky eater. My friend got the breakfast sandwich and it was really good and I got the French toast and in my opinion was very dry but had good flavor. Well I wish I could say it was better but.... We started with the 3 Amigos which is chips and 3 salsas. The spicy rojo had an unpleasant fizz to it like it was fermenting. My wife had the fish tacos(mahi). The fish was rubbery and tasted fishy. Tell tale sign that it was previously frozen. I had the Classico taco. Let's say it was bland and mealy. They need to use single coarse ground beef and more seasoning to give it body and flavor. The drinks well you can tell they were measured if that, as the tasted of all mix. For 14.00 at least they could put some alcohol them. Sorry won't be back! Only high point was good service from Michelle otherwise I would have gave them 1 star. read more

This was our 2nd visit and unfortunately we were disappointed in both the food and margaritas. There was some sort of overwhelming taste (too much cumin?) that overpowered the carne asada chimichanga AND the queso bean dip. Chips tasted old. There was no difference between my $15 margarita and my husband's $8 margarita. Both also had a different taste than usual margaritas. Service was good, but we probably won't be back. read more
