I had been wanting to try this place since it opened but unfortunately with all the COVID stuff going on, I was only able to get takeout. Both my friend and I got Chana Masala and it was excellent! The spices were on point, as is their spice levels. I ordered mine extra spicy and my friend ordered his medium and in both cases we were pleasantly surprised with what we got. Yum! I got the lamb pista korma and the chicken samosas. The chicken samosas were just right. I could tell they put a lot of care into seasoning the dough, too. We ordered takeout of a variety of dishes, including the tandoori chicken, chicken samosa, malai kofta (not spicy), chettinad masala lamb, paneer butter masala, and rogan josh chicken. The malai kofta still had some spicy, which was unfortunately too much for the member of our party who can't handle any spice. The other dishes were super flavorful and cooked well, the proteins were well-cooked though the lamb was tough and the chicken wasn't very tender. The samosas were super big and had a good amount of filling inside. At the time of my visit (roughly 2-3 months ago), I noticed that the two employees that were inside the restaurant were both not wearing masks. When they tried to hand the food directly to me I asked that they place the bag on the table for me to pick up. I haven't been since that visit - hopefully they are following state guidance to wear masks now. read more

This restaurant is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the region and that's says a lot since there is some steep competition in the triangle region. I'm so impressed by what they've done to the old Noodles and Company, not to mention their food I am having a love affair with Palak Paneer and this place does it right. Great texture, taste and amount of food. The Tandoori wings were a nice compliment and you can't beat the Kheer for dessert. I'm looking forward to the buffet and many more visits to this new addition to Franklin. It's also less expensive than Mint and Chonoland the people are nice there. Service was quick and friendly, the food was delicious (if pricier, but not unreasonable among Franklin street-front restaurants), and the space is modern and comfortable. We enjoyed some just-spicy mild chana masala and Goat Korma (we correctly estimated that anything more than mild would be too much for us). I love an Indian lunch buffet. Saw that this was now open, so I went. I want to go back tomorrow. I can't speak for the non-veg items on the buffet, but the vegetarian items were all delicious. They had plain rice, lemon rice, daal, saag, chana masala, and paneer tikka masala, along with the usual salad, fruit, condiments, and dessert. I was not disappointed by a single veg item, and I tried them all. I'm kind of used to mediocre kheer and gulab jamun, but these had flavor! And spice! Not too much but just right. A new, upscale Indian restaurant addition to Chapel Hill! We had no issues getting seated but making reservations for dinner time is recommended. The food was tasty. We were first served crunchy papur (large crispy thin bread) with chutney. The mango lassie was delicious but straw was way too long for the cup(maybe they should cut the straws). The chicken tikka, murgh masala appetizer, and palak paneer were artfully plated, which is unusual for an Indian restaurant, and all delicious. The restaurant seems to be a family-run restaurant, and servers were friendly. My only concern was how long the wait time was. Maybe, they are experiencing some growing pains as a new restaurant. It took about 1.5 hours to get served our food. They desperately need to work on the promptness with serving food because it will discourage people from returning. I would probably only visit for the buffet or order take-out in advance until they figure out some of the kinks with their service. read more

I was hoping for a better experience. The owners have definitely done a great job upgrading the decor. The new seating layout (from Vespa days) is much improved. The bar is a nice size as well. Unfortunately the service and food are a bit lacking. The place was relatively empty. One other couple was sitting when we first sat down. Yet, I had to wave at the waitress to get service. The food was delivered in a strange way, too. It was not placed in front of us, nor in the middle. Instead it was placed at the opposite edge of the table. After the food was delivered the waitress did not return until close to the end... not convenient if something is wrong with the food. So, leading into the food. My husband asked for any recommendations in the non-veg section. The response was, "it's up to you...". No recommendation, and probably for the better. He ordered the mixed grill. Most items on it were cooked until they tasted like sawdust. All the sauce/flavor was charred/ cooked away. The chana masala was just okay... had some heat, but lacked deeper flavors. Portions are not sizable. Rice is okay. Conclusion? There are better Indian restaurants in Chapel Hill. read more

If you are looking to feast on a variety of both classic Indian and more authentic dishes at a reasonable price, Chimney, the newest restaurant on Franklin Street is the place to be! I highly recommend going for LUNCH since they have a lunch buffet all 7 days of the week with a decent variety of rotating dishes at a very reasonable price (13 even plus tip). I am from South Asia so I am usually very picky about Asian food but I have been very impressed with the quality of the dishes at the buffet. Some of the dishes rotate out but if available, I would highly recommend the lollipop chicken, veggie samosas, fried fish, chicken tikka masala, eggplant dishes, and the sag paneer. For dessert, definitely try Gulab Jamon. You also get a basket of fresh naan with each visit which tastes amazing with some of the dishes I mentioned. The decor is modern and dining environment pleasant. Your interaction with the staff for the buffet is minimal which in my case is appreciated. Although the food is good, the wait for it to be ready is absolutely ridiculous. The manager, when asked about the wait time, blames Covid and the lack of help in the restaurant whether you are dinning in or getting it delivered. I have never written a Yelp review in my life, but I had a breathtakingly negative experience here and really needed to share it. This is not a review of the food, but of customer service-I arrived to pick up a 50$+ to go order that I had placed online, received an email confirmation of my order and arrived when the order was scheduled to be ready-it had clearly not been prepared, and was given to me 30 minutes late with no explanation or apology. When I got the order home, I was missing a 15$ entree. When I called to ask for a refund to be put on my card, I was told that it was impossible. We went to Chimney today for the first time and absolutely loved it!! Fantastic service and really delicious food. Given the changing regulations around coronavirus, they're no longer offering the buffet (which is probably very prudent on their part), but they now have a 50% OFF deal for all items on their menu. It's almost too good to be true. I ordered the chicken tikka Masala and my boyfriend ordered the lamb vindaloo. We also got the mango lassi (which they gave us on the house given some delays in ordering!) and garlic naan. I wish I had more pictures but I forgot to take them since the food looked too delicious. Both my partner and I have been to several Indian restaurants across the East Coast and the quality of the food at Chimney was definitely up there. We're very impressed. The main courses were tasty and if you like flavor and a little kick than I advice you to try the tikka masala. With the garlic naan bread. If you're eating Indian food you HAVE to try mango lassi. Our server was so kind to give us an off the menu drink. It was BETTER than the mango lassi. So smooth, so fresh, so good!! It was thinner than a milkshake but thicker than a juice. JUST TRY IT! Then we were generously given desert to try. Oh my yummmy.... we're coming back for the desert. Rice pudding we creamy smooth light and just so comforting to eat topped with gulab Jamoon. Came for lunch. Confused when I walked in about what to do with myself. Finally got seated and then sat in more confusion. Had neveR been here before. Waiter then directed me to the buffet line. I go to it and they have a am mall variety of choices but when I sat and ate I was pleased with the food. He brought me some naan. It was super buttery. It's fancy in here but I am afraid it's over priced and the food is just super oily and salty which makes it taste good but it's not that high of quality. After reading several rave reviews, I am glad we chose this place for date night! Parking was easy, as they share a lot with a few other restaurants and the Target garage is only 2 blocks down. We were greeted and seated immediately, and service remained consistently great throughout our meal. The thin naan brought out for the table was different, but delicious. We enjoyed the garlic naan with our meals as well. The Samosa appetizer was perfection, and our extra spicy Paneer Butter Masala and medium spiced Chana Masala continued the trend. I've heard this is the place for great Indian in CH. I finally got to try it this week and the hype is all true! Generous portions enough for me to have two meals and I froze what was left over (as it was still half of the initial portion), it tasted fantastic and the service was also top notch. My order was takeout and I live about 20 minutes away and when I unpacked my food my samosas were still crispy! I'll definitely be making my way over there again soon and you should too! read more

This place is honestly ranked in my top 1 worst in town and that's not good. They make it look fancy but the staff is shit. I'd rather go to chipotle across the street, food somehow is rated like it's amazing but it's not at all and it's not too bad but still for the prices and service you get. There is a white shirt lady working the front some days and she's so rude and idk if it's racially motivated but she doesn't like Latinos. I've dashed with her here and she always gives me the worst treatment. But someone white comes in and she starts to compliment them and so helpful. We enjoyed our take-home meal from Chimney more than we thought we would... the lovely young woman (well, lovely personality & eyes - mask time) who waited on me was quite patient as she assured me the meal could make it all the way home to Mebane - still hot. She was right. We got Chicken Tika Masala & Lamb Korma and, while both were quite good, the Tika Masala was outstanding... we also got some garlic nan... some cilantro sauce & tamarind sauce were sent along. We have for years been quite faithful to Sitar down the street in Durham but at least one of us felt like the Tika Masala was even better at Chimney... we look forward to trying the Tandori ... and perhaps I'll have a sidewalk lunch before the weather changes. One of the best Indian cuisine meals I have ever had. The service was wonderful. The bartenders own version of his Margarita and Mojito made with Indian spices were absolutely delicious and paired so well with our meal.
