My husband and I recently visited Curry Palace for the first time--and it was also my very first experience at an Indian restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised! Everyone was super friendly from the hostess, waitervl etc. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala at spice level 4, and it was absolutely delicious. The spice level was perfect for me--definitely had some heat without being overwhelming. My husband ordered the House Special Chicken Biryani, which included both lamb and chicken, and he really enjoyed it. I'd say his dish was closer to a spicej that's level 3. Before our meal, we were served complimentary crackers and chutney, which were fantastic and a great introduction to the flavors we would enjoy throughout dinner. One thing that really stood out was the portion size. The servings were enormous! These days, with grocery and gas prices being what they are, it's refreshing to find a restaurant that gives you so much food for your money. We both had plenty left over to take home. I was super excited to find an Indian restaurant in my hometown. Indian cuisine is my favorite and I'm no stranger to the dishes both here in the US and in England, which is other level by the way. One day I will make it to India....but I digress... We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering and I was instantly in love with the decor and the friendliness of both the host and server. We began with water to drink, me skipping a mango lassi because I had decided I would have a dessert today since it had been awhile. My friend was a newbie to Indian food so I ordered for us and kept it simple. Palak Paneer and Chicken Mango Jalfreezie, with garlic naan. The papadoms and sauce were tasty and always a nice nibble while we wait for our dishes. Everything arrived hot and fresh and nicely presented. We were advised if we needed more rice to just ask. This is when the disappointment hit for me. While both dishes were good food, cooked well and nicely presented, the true Indian flavors were missing. I also did not detect mango in the dish that should have been flooded with that flavor. I do order my dishes mild, but I always do, and while that does impact the heat which I cannot tolerate, it has never once impacted the full flavor of all the spices. Until here. So sad, as someone who almost craves those flavors and had been looking forward to them all day. I've gone back and forth as to whether to give three or four stars, because everything really was nice but if I go to an Indian restaurant I really am hoping for Indian flavor. It was missing. If I could give 3.5 I would. My big question is always, would I return? I will not. I live in High Point and will continue to dine at the numerous Indian spots near home. read more

What can I say? The food is spectacular! And so filling! There were unique dishes that none of us in my group had tried before or heard of! The restaurant was clean and pretty, and the staff was so generous and patient with us as we ordered. We were thrilled to start our meal with the complimentary papadum and dips. Many restaurants don't offer this as often anymore and this rendition was delicious! Next we had the dumpling appetizer which also came with a wonderful sauce. For our entrees we had the Palak Paneer (level 3) and Lamb Karahi (level 4) with garlic naan. We like heat but four was a bit much. We were warned Limited wine list though we enjoyed an Italian Pinot Grigio. Looking forward to a return visit. read more

On our way home from dropping our kids off at camp and decided to find a place to stop that wasn't the standard option. Curry Palace was definitely worth it. We started with an order of vegetable samosas that were delicious and bigger than I expected. One order was perfect for a people. They also bring a complimentary order of flat bread cracker and a sampling of sauces. All delicious! For dinner we order the butter chicken and mixed tandoori with a side of garlic naan. All what you would expect and very good. Heat order options 1-5, we stuck with level 3 and it was a nice spice level and not too hot. Level 4 would have been pushing it. The butter chicken was smooth and comforting and had great flavor. The mixed tandoori was sizzling as it came to the table and packed full of flavor. We decided to finish the meal with an order of the rice pudding as well as the gulab jamun. The rice pudding was tasty but the star was definitely the gulab - so delicious, sweet, and perfect dipped in the rice pudding. Overall a great dinner. At first glance Curry Palace is unremarkable. A plain store front in a small set of stores, but I walked in to be greeted by some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered. Everyone was so very kind and welcoming, it almost felt like visiting family for the first time in years. My wife and were seated almost instantly and our server was very quick to get our drinks. The server took our order with the same warm kindness that welcomed us at the door. The place is quiet and moderately busy, with a very clean and calm atmosphere. Our appetizer came out quickly, very fresh, very hot and delicious. The food was taking a little longer than usual compared to other similar establishments, but just as I was ready to ask the server where our food was, Our Tandoori Chicken Tikka and Tandoori grill mix arrived on sizzling cast iron platters on a bed of fresh sizzling onions and peppers. The masala sauce and rice combined to make this some of the best and freshest Indian food I have had between Durham and Charlotte! The Garlic Naan was far and away the best I have had in as long as I can remember. The flavors of the tender chicken paired with he fresh sizzling onions, rice, masala, and naan was like a gift everyone should enjoy. It was so fresh and filled with flavor that I may leave work and drive an hour or more get it again today. I'm from out of town, but make it a point to stop here whenever I'm traveling through the area. The food is just that good! The wait staff is very competent and professional, and they will make sure to get your order right. This was a delightful restaurant. I ordered the tikki chicken dish mild and lime soda. I didn't like the soda. The black pepper makes it taste like eggs which I don't eat.
