The food was very good. Our service was horrible. It started fine. Apps and drinks came out fast. Then a party of 20 came in and our waitress just disappeared. An hour later she admitted she didn't put our salad/entree orders in. We finally got our salads. Then one entree came out, wrong. At this point, 2 hours in we just said it was fine and we would eat what was served. The waitress was humble and apologetic to her mistake. The saving grace, the manager did comp our app and drinks without us asking. So the food was great. Their Dining room service could really use attention. We Have been going to the Chimney Rock Inn and in Flemington, NJ and Bridgewater NJ for years. A few of us went this past Saturday night and we had 2 checks. We noticed each check had a payment surcharge. It wasn't a automatic tip it was a payment charge. We had never seen that before... not at Chimney Rock, not any restaurant. We asked the server what that was and Chimney Rock now wants to recoup the fees the banks charge for patrons using credit cards so they've started taking 3% of the staffs tips to reimburse themselves. So the staff somehow got approval to start charging patrons 3% of their total bill when they use a credit card. This has nothing to do with the tip you're still supposed to leave them it's an additional 3% they're giving themselves from your payment. I wouldn't mind doing this as I think it's despicable for the company to take money away from their staff; especially considering the severe staff shortages everywhere. My problem was that they don't tell you. We asked for the manager and asked how they can suddenly start doing this without telling customers who have been coming here for years. There was no update on the menu, no sign on the table, the servers don't tell you before you order. He had the worst attitude of any manager I've ever talked to. He could care less and basically told us there were notes on the doors as you walk in and we should have read them. So we got up to look. When we first got there some of the doors were open and they still were. If you've ever been to Chimney Rock there's two sets of doors. The first set when you first walk in. With these doors, the right door was open and there was a rock underneath it to keep it open. The sign was on the the opposite side of the door so it was facing away from you when you walked in. The second set of doors the left door was open and there was some thing under there to keep it open. The sign was on the other side of that door as well so it was impossible to see either sign without the doors closed and the staff had propped them both open. My husband went back to the manager and said how do you expect people to see the signs when they're on the opposite side of open doors and he just shrugged. Never even answered him. read more

I ordered fish and chips For curbside pick up today and it appeared to be an appetizer size when I got it home. They consisted of three small bite-size pieces, a little larger than a chicken nugget. I've ordered the fish and chips in the restaurant many times before and it was quite good and it was two large pieces of fish fillet. I'm not sure what happened today. I also ordered the Portuguese shrimp appetizer and found the bread that came with it was inside the shrimp and all soggy. I've had that in the past as well in the restaurant and the bread was always served on the side crispy. The bread should've been wrapped separately for the pick up. Once again the serving today for the shrimp as well was also small. Is chimney rock decreasing the amount of food served instead of raising the prices? I'm hoping this was an anomaly as we've certainly liked this place in the past. read more

Two stars because the staff was friendly... EVEN thought the waitress took my soup before asking if I was done... There was still soup in bowl.. NOW it was pushed to the side, but still I wasn't sure if I was done or not. She made that decision. I didn't make a fuss because at the end of day it wasn't that big of a deal. The food was absolutely disgusting and not worth the price. I could have gotten a better meal anywhere else. The food did not seem cooked all the way. The pizza here is really good if you get it well done. If you don't ask it's undercooked, soggy and chewy. Another time I went and got a salmon dish which said it came with pasta but when it came out i got fries. We notified the waitress and she seemed confused and sent me rice. But on the check we were charged for the rice. Umm why would a salmon dish come with French fries and when we ask about it we're charged for rice. But when it clearly said on the menu it comes with a pasta. Other than that the food is good and wait staff is friendly. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for over two years and I love it here. Tonight I was denied alcohol because the waitress, manager and bartender said they couldn't accept my ID because it was vertical and didn't say probationary. However licenses only say probationary when you are 17 and changes to a full auto license when you turn 18. I am 23. I came here less than a week ago and multiple times in the prior months with the same license and have never had an issue. The manager, who looked very new and young was giving me a very hard time and wouldn't even hear me out. I asked her to scan my ID and check the backlight stamp but she claimed she wasn't even sure if she had a scanner. I am very disappointed and a little frustrated with this encounter. Disappointed. My coworkers had initially taken me for lunch at the original Chimney Rock location in Bound Brook and the food was amazing. I was so excited to visit this location - and the lines for this place have been huge since it opened, so I figured it would be just as great. Not so much. We went at lunch today and there was a waiting list, which I expected. 15 minutes was not a bad wait for a table. When we were seated, we were walked past the station where they bus the tables - which wasn't really optimal but OK. We were taken to a back section where the doors were open to Route 31. It was like being seated in a huge barn. It was a nice day, so I thought having the fresh air would be pleasant. Until we were dive bombed by bees throughout the meal. Service was very slow. Our server was also unpleasant. It felt like we were a huge inconvenience to her by being there. Two out of three people in our party received drinks and 10 minutes later our third person did not have their beverage. We asked about it, and our server was clearly irritated that we brought it up, but then brought the beverage. It took a long time for the food to come - when it did, it was over-salted, the cheeseburger was flavorless and missing cheese, the pizza was overcooked. Marinara sauce received with mozzarella sticks was watered down. Our server never checked on us for drink refills, came by and said "You got your food - good. Everything OK? Good!"- quickly gave us that sentence and turned and left before we could respond. When we went to pay the bill, took another 15 minutes. It was too long for lunch. The server's attitude markedly improved when she dropped off the check - maybe she felt bad that she was so irritated with us earlier, or maybe she remembered it was tip time now, but it was too little too late. All in all, got there at 12:20 and didn't get out until 2PM. Won't be back. If I'm going to Chimney Rock, I'll stick with Bound Brook. read more

The place is very loud... very bad acoustics. The place is popular with high school kids hanging out. I saw families with small kids...maybe I should have ordered off the kids menu. Our server didn't give his name, a young millennial. Got draft beers but was never offered a 2nd round. The food was TERRIBLE. Maybe the pizza and burgers are good but we ordered the tater tots app and the buffalo chicken wrap and a grilled cheese. Couldn't finish any of it. My pickle spear came in 2 pieces that looked like they were pieces left in the bottom of a jar that had already been chewed on. None of the tables around me had any ketchup in the bottles. The onion crisp had no flavor at all. The buffalo chicken wrap was small, soggy, sloppy, and gross. The grilled cheese, burnt on the sides and I couldn't even figure out what they were trying to do with it...just weird. The tater tots just had 3 piles of stuff dumped on them... queso (not cheesy) tomatoes, and a big pile of guacamole. Not terrible but the presentation sucked.
