My wife and I met up with friends for dinner at the Chimney Rock last night. It was my first time here, she had been here once before. This is a new restaurant that just opened up within this past year in Whippany. I didn't love this place but didn't hate it either. A couple of things I did love was my Rum Punch cocktail and the Garlic Knots appetizer....both were delicious! I had the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries as an entree. The fries were good, but the sandwich was just ok. I expected the ambience inside to be nicer. Looking at the building from the outside gives you the impression that it would be pretty cool inside, but it was pretty ordinary. The bar area may be nicer, there was also live music when we were leaving. I think next time I come back we may just get seats at the bar, I may appreciate it more.

Dear Yelp, Lots of things to like about Chimney Rock Inn. They have ample parking and great weekly specials. The 28inch pizza for $19.99 on a Monday is a steal for large groups. The crust tastes like a bar pie, but for $20 who can complain? The brisket special with sweet potato wedges was a highlight. I enjoyed the Mahi mahi tacos and my daughter said the burger was good. We are excited to come back on a nacho/taco special night! Love, Nicole

Just like the one in Bridgewater this place has a great thin bar pie. I preferred the cheese half to the pepperoni side. Ordering online was simple as fast. It's a large spot if you wanna eat it with a large group or sit at the bar and watch a game. Solid spot for pizza, wing, etc

I used to go to the other two Chimney Rock Inns in Somerset County, so when this one popped up in Whippany, I was very excited! On the night we got food from CRI we decided to get take out, I wasn't in the mood for pizza so I opted for the Rock Chop Salad. The salad was good. I got the Southwestern dressing. It wasn't thick like I expected. My wife ordered chips and guac. Chips and the guac were average at best. It isn't quite what we'd get at a good Mexican restaurant (not that I expected something exceptional from a place known more for its pizza). Overall, it was good. The online ordering portal was very easy to use. I wish you could add things like onions to the salad.

Ok we heard this place opened in November and we really wanted to give it a try. I will say it gets very busy so make sure you make a reservation. We were immediately greeted by the hostess, who checked our reservation and since we are early, we just had a wait a short while . Inside had some nice decorations for the holiday season, Staff brought us to our table and quickly got our drinks for us . We ordered several apps and I highly recommend getting the vodka pizza. I got the ribs which were a bit dry but my server did warn me ! Definitely would return,

Stopped in for a late lunch on Sunday. There was no wait and the hostess was friendly. The server took our drink order and apologized for the delay for my husband's drink since they had to get it from the back. The place is brand new and is clean and spacious. My husband had the brisket sandwich and fries. He said he sandwich was good the fried were really good. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos. They were good but not much Mahi Mahi. Also, although I didn't need it, would have been nice to come with rice and or beans. The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. Would have loved to have dessert next time we will try a pizza. .

I hosted a retirement party in a private room. They did an absolutely amazing job. The room was set up perfect. The waiter was so helpful he went above and beyond. His suggestions on how to present the desserts I brought in and how to configure the dessert area were spot on and so helpful. The food was all excellent. Every single person commented how great the party was. They just nailed this party and made me look good to the rest of my co workers!

My wife and I visited the newest location for this group of restaurantes on Saturday, having been to both Bridgwater and Flemington area locations in the past. Walking in, was surprised how much the interior borrows it's looks from the Flemington spot, almost exact mirror view. On the right, more family style dining room and on the left is a bar with high tops and booths. We were escorted to the left which was fine by us. We ordered a pitcher of Miller Lite, served up cold. The wife got a mixed cocktail which she was was good. We started by splitting a garden salad and order of fried pickles, both were just great and served quickly. She got a Founder's pizza with added onion, a small which she literally brought 3/4 home with us. I ordered a large pizza with onions and peppers, did not disappoint. They really get their thin crust right here, it's the best in the area. The cost was in the pocket, pretty much what I'd expect. We brought a lot of pizza home and it really reheated well the next day. Andrew was our server, super attentive and most courteous. Give it a try!!

They're knowledgeable about the many items on the menu and kept our waters and chips topped up throughout the meal. The actual food wasn't as great. I tried some barbacoa street tacos and some fried fish tacos. Everything was fresh and well cooked but lacking in flavor - each dish could be seasoned a bit more. I'm hopeful for the restaurant, and I may try it again if they try new recipes or something different to season their food.

I do feel everything would have benefitted from salt, and I wish that as a dine-in customer my burrito had not come wrapped in to-go paper. To give you a sense of the ambiance: the Spanish-speaking cashier/cook was reading a book when I walked in, and the television on the wall was blaring a Spanish-language TV show. I was one of only two customers when I went for a Saturday lunch around 1p. The other customer was also conversing in Spanish with the front of house. I appreciated that a bottled green habanero sauce was at my table, along with Cholula. It helps add to the authenticity. All that said, maybe don't come here for the tex-mex. If I came back I'd try one of the five different kinds of tacos they offered.

The food came out pretty quickly. The server/bartender was really nice and helpful. I asked her what SHE likes here, and she mentioned fajitas. So I got the Mexican Corn Fajita. When I got up to my room with it, I was kind of disappointed that there was no meat in there, but I realize that the menu didn't say squat about meat. My mistake. HOWEVER... that was an amazing dish. Every single part of the meal, from the rice, the black beans, to the small included side of guacamole and the fajita meal... wow. I ate almost everything. I couldn't stop. It was really, really good, and I would absolutely get it again. The mexican corn was flavored in a really authentic way, along with peppers, onion, tomato. I'm really impressed. I should go down and try a frozen drink but I'm too damned full.

After being seated, I walked around the premises and saw a large room for private events, a vast area for outdoor seating, very nice wall artistry, and even a good-sized individual room for a private meal. Shyam was an exceptional Server. He took very good care of us and contributed to an enjoyable meal. I started with a Classic Margarita and it was served in a LARGE glass. So large, that I had to hand over the car keys, afterwards. The Fat Cactus complimentary chips and salsa was AMAZING. First, the salsa had chunks of tomato, onions, and lots of basil. It was so throughly enjoyed, that we asked for a second helping, which they gladly obliged. Our selections were: Chicken Tortilla Soup (Rich chicken broth flavored with onions, tomatoes, corn, black beans, finished with a dash of cream, crispy tortilla chips, avocado, sour cream, and cheese). This soup was served in a deep bowl, had a very nice presentation, and every spoonful was flavorful. The next item was the Burrito Michoacano (Shredded chicken seasoned with authentic Mexican spices, Mexican rice, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese, and chili arbol sauce). This Burrito was huge, all of the ingredients were well seasoned, and I took some home to enjoy during the NFL playoffs. The final item was the Tamales Chicken Pastor (Homemade masa tamales, stuffed with Chicken Al Pastor, served with red enchilada sauce, and topped with creamy sour cream). I'm glad, that I discovered Fat Cactus and will definitely revisit and/or dine at their New Brunswick location.

As usual, dinner here was a solid, five-star experience. The associate behind the counter delivered top-notch service. They ensured our order was sent to the kitchen accurately, took the time to explain how to earn and redeem points through the Tacoria app, and even brought our food right out to our sidewalk table when it was ready. As for the food, it completely hit the spot. I had a pair of the Pork Al Pastor Tacos ($5.60 ea.) which were marinated in a perfect blend of spices and topped with finely diced pineapple. The two tacos were just the right portion size to satiate my hunger without feeling stuffed. My dining companion ordered the Burrito Box ($11), a great low-carb, tortilla-less dish that comes loaded with your choice of protein served over rice, black beans, cheese, salsa, and fresh pico de gallo, which she absolutely enjoyed. The outdoor seating and consistently great service remind me why this place is a local favorite. We will definitely be back!
