we love our fireplace. its one of the biggest reasons we bought our house and it was our first really big $$$ home improvement job (since it was built in 1953, neglected for years, and converted to gas). we shopped around (and heard a lot of bull) but eventually found a reputable company and they did a great job. since then we've had an inspection and cleaning at least once a year and never had an issue. sadly (for us) they retired to the good life a few months ago. so, we started shopping around for a new chimney sweep, inspection and repair company. chimney USA had great ratings here and elsewhere so we gave em a call. i've never been so glad we'd had hucksters & con artists try to pull a fast one on us before, because boy oh boy these guys tried every trick in the book. without doing even the most cursory cleaning first, without inspecting on the roof, without using any sort of 'professional' chimney inspection camera equipment the technician showed us a picture on his cellphone that "showed a very dangerous crack in our liner that had to be fixed immediately." now, though we were with him the whole time, neither my wife or i saw him take any pictures and, in point of fact, because of our funky smoke shelf/smoke chamber he couldn't have taken a cellphone picture of our flue -- unless he had an invisible, collapsible pizza oven paddle in his jacket. when i asked to see the picture more closely, he shoved it in his pocket while pulling what looked like a carrot-curl of asphalt from the other pocket declaring "you probably didn't even know you'd had a chimney fire!" at this point i'd had enough, told him so, opened the front door and asked him to leave. his voice went up as he got louder, "i'm not trying to rip you off!" today we had an inspection and cleaning by a company with an A+ rating on BBB, angie's list, (yelp too!), and all their technicians are CSIA certified. first they cleaned (since that is the ONLY way to really see problems). they asked if i'd like to watch the screen while they used the professional grade, lighted camera (i did). there were no big dangerous cracks and absolutely no evidence of a chimney fire. i would strongly recommend that anyone thinking of dealing with chimney usa be warned, be informed and GET A SECOND OPINION before you let these guys begin any work. read more

I am thoroughly pleased with the service from Chimney USA. Brandon was so knowledgeable and personable when he provided the initial inspection, estimate, and cleaning. Matt quickly followed up with a detailed quote. I wasn't ready to do the work at the time of the quote, but he contacted me later with a discount offer, and that worked for me. Justin and Andrew arrived today and completed all of the work to get my fireplace and chimney in safe, working condition. They painted the firebox, and it looks so good. Justin was also very knowledgeable and personable. I called him multiple times with questions, and he was patient. He walked me through what I needed to know. He is honest and responsible. $150 OVER QUOTED PRICE I am very unhappy with the service I received. Not only did they not honor their quote but the tech was very condescending. If I could give more then 5 stars I would! The technician (didn't get his name) was amazing! He explained the whole process before anything was done. He asked questions in order to understand how often my fireplace was used before cleaning. He even gave me advice on which wood was the best for a clean burn. Totally professional and great with the customer! Whole process was seamless. Responded to a quote request immediately and was scheduled within one hour and showed up two days later to perform cleaning. I will use them for all my cleaning and inspection needs in the future. You can expect top notch service from this business. I inherited a safety and biohazard with the fireplace in my recently purchased home. I first contacted a company that I had heard on the radio, but I decided not to use them after they bent my gutter and did not properly repair it. After that I contacted Chimney USA and Matt came to take care of my problems. He did an excellent job cleaning the huge mess in my chimney which included a dead squirrel. Will came out today to fill in the cracks and chips in the mortar and repair the chimney crown. And, outta nowhere decided to blow the pine straw off my sidewalks! There is something to be said for customer service. Matt answered the phone on the first ring, set up an appointment immediately for a visit the same week, and really did an outstanding job overall in making me feel like he wanted to do the work I was looking to have done. He is certified, and cleaned the chimney promptly and thoroughly. He took time out to explain the inner workings of the chimney and why it's important to keep it clean. He was very accommodating and let me watch him and his technician as they performed the service. They had tarps and a vacuum to keep the living room clean while performing the sweep from the inside. I recently contacted Chimney USA for a chimney cleaning. Matt called and we made an appointment for the next day. He sent an email reminder and called 30 minutes before arriving. He was also right on time, so even before he arrived, I was already impressed with his professionalism. He investigated and found that our chimney really didn't need cleaning. During his inspection, which he documents for you with his camera, he showed us several cracks in the chimney apron. I needed to make another appointment to have that fixed, since my husband wanted to be home for that.
