EVERY SINGLE TIME I've ordered from them I order my meals without mushroom. And EVERY single time I end up picking through the food until I just end up throwing it away. It's either they refuse to make it the way I order it and just won't tell me or they don't care about their customers. But for 4 years as a loyal customer I cannot and will not order from them. The breading now on the chicken is mushy and the food is flavorless over all. It used to be excusable just because it was cheap... not the case anymore. Just save your money and go to Panda Express. Love China 1968! Been coming here for years. The orange chicken is great, especially if you ask for it spicy. The fried rice always hits the spot too! My wife and her family love their shrimp and their egg rolls too. My only complaint is that getting hot sauce from them is difficult, you almost have to beg. Nice Chinese spot in El Cajon . The service was friendly and we got our food quick . We ordered egg rolls to start . They were more like a spring roll not an egg roll . Nothing special . We split the generals tso chicken. It was generous amount for the two of us and we took some home. The house fried rice it came with was lacking. They could dr it up a bit . All in all not bad . This is a hidden gem. I wanna cry that I found this place less than 2 miles from where I lived a month before moving away. I managed to take a few opportunities to eat some of their fabulous dishes. China 1968 is tucked away in a small plaza next to Food-4-Less. You cannot access the plaza through their parking lot (I tried and failed). The dining area looks like a cafeteria so don't expect a nice sit down restaurant. 4 stars for this reason. There is plenty of seating to choose from and you can sit anywhere. I had only dined in once during lunch. Service was pleasant but hardly special with hardly anybody there (it was around 1pm). I've done take out the other times and it's best to call in the order before picking up if you know what you want, or you will be waiting around for 15 minutes. EVERYTHING I've had here was GREAT!! Lots of food for good prices! The chicken dinners provide enough food for 2 lunches of leftovers. I've tried: - Orange chicken - Sesame Chicken - Kung Pao Beef Try the soups, the Rangoons, and the chicken dinners. All fabulous!!! The Rangoons are some of the best I've had. My husband and 3 daughters all had high hopes for this place cause of the great reviews and how close in proximity it is to our home. We ordered a combination of things. I happed to be here on the first day of Chinese new year, they had a lot of food out for the staff. They gave our table some samples of there food. I can't take credit for finding China 1968, it came recommended by Cara C. One night we were on the freeway and I was craving Chinese, I remembered bookmarking this place and pulled it up. Full disclosure, I was the passenger. So I perused the menu online and we called in an order for pickup. When we arrived a few minutes later we ended up adding another item, haha. You know how it goes when you're hungry and you just want everything. We only ended up having to wait a few minutes even with the add on. The service was good, both people we dealt with were friendly and efficient. The place was clean and old school looking inside. My son loved the giant circular table in the front of the dining area. You know how kids are just attracted to those lazy susan style spinners on the table tops, too much fun, for the kids I mean. Most of the food was really good. The only disappointment was the salt and pepper chicken wings. These were not good. They were way too heavily breaded, definite pass on ordering these again. The cream cheese wontons were great though. The salt and pepper green beans were interesting, they were good, but a bit heavy on the salt. I think it could've just been an off night. We also tried the Kung Pao chicken and asked for it as spicy as possible. Naturally it wasn't spicy enough, but it was really tasty. Love this place!!! Isn't oily, shrimp are humongous, heaping portions; very inexpensive for what you get. My parents are very picky about Chinese food and my mom, well you know how Asian moms are lol. The staff are sweethearts: we were given extra plates to share since we ordered a bunch of food as we had no idea how large the entrees were. If you've been to any of the places in Kearny Mesa, this place is of the same quality food; if not better. Welcoming and attentive. 10% off for Yelp check-ins. Crispy beef is tasty. The red sweet/sour dipping sauce is like crack. Good sized portions. Prices are OK. Dinner for two, with 2 beers, was $63 (before discount). The not-so-good: Special rice (shrimp, chicken and pork), egg rolls and orange chicken are just mediocre...blah. The bad: Salt and pepper chicken was a bland, tasteless mess. Should've sent it back. Unfortunately, I didn't receive specific suggestions until after I left. If I do return, it'll be for the stir fried eggplant in garlic sauce (not on the menu, but should be) and the stir fried green beans with BBQ pork. As well, the cream cheese filled wontons. Got the sesame delight (which is now called something else and comes with chicken, shrimp AND beef!), house chow fun (without bean sprouts cuz we hate those), salt and pepper shrimp without shells, and beef with black bean sauce. We weren't fans of the beef in black bean sauce which had a lot of bell pepper and was very saucy and spilled in the bag. Everything else was really good! The portions were generous and the quality seemed pretty good. No gristle and the beef was better than a lot of places. The prices were good including the 20% discount which they added without us needing to ask which was great. Without it all that food would have been a bit pricey. This is a new eatery which has only been open for about one month. The eatery is located in a small parking lot where parking is limited. Upon walking up to the eatery, they had their menu located outside of the food establishment which is convenient to passing by potential customers. The eatery is clean inside with marble type floors. The eatery has an open concept with clean surroundings all around. The female employee who greeted us did so as soon as we walked in and provided us with a seat and menu. The menu food options are plenty and typical of your Chinese type of foods. They even serve Chinese style drinks. The prices are average anywhere from $6-$9 per food option. Of course, they offer side orders which are cheaper, but for the main entree meals, the cost is average. Since this was my first visit ever into this eatery, I took my time reviewing the menu. They basically offer anything you would want from BBQ, chicken, fried rice, shrimp, soups and salads. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken which came with rice. On the side, I ordered salt and pepper chicken wings. The main dish in the Kung Pao was freshly made, tasted great and had a spice to it which provided great lasting flavor. The dish included vegetables and peppers. The rice was tasteful too which complimented the dish well. The salt and pepper chicken wings were a little greasy, but were average tasting. They did have good presentation as did the Kung Pao chicken. The six wings had a lot of meat too. In the end, the customer service was great, the food was tasty, the place was clean and the portions were a above average.
