Coming from Vancouver where we have the best Chinese food in North America, I am very spoiled and very critical of Chinese food. So you can just imagine how hesitant I am to try this place. Even if this is owned by Chinese, the authenticity has been lost to cater to people's taste here. I tried to find simple dishes in the menu where they can't go wrong - fried items and sautéed veggies. Then a Chinese server passed by our table and I conversed with her in Mandarin. Far off my beaten path, but I noticed it when I was running errands the other day, and saw that Mike G. had reviewed it. He's been here many times and likes it, and they know him. It is a nice old school Chinese-American place. The standard menu items, plus a few unusual things. We just ordered off the lunch menu. Mike had pad Thai and hot and sour soup. I of course had to try the spicy Rangoons. And there were several entrées I wanted to try. I ended up getting Mongolian beef to go, and Empress chicken for there. I used to love this, and I don't know if my tastes changed or if I stopped seeing it on menus, but I don't think I see it very often. Crispy battered chicken, tender big chunks, in a sweet and slightly savory sauce. It says spicy on the menu, but it's not. Very good, and a good portion. Served with good fried rice. As part of the lunch special, this is a huge serving plus you get an eggroll and soup. Service was excellent. Start to finish. Everybody was friendly. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. If it were closer, I would definitely be back often. As it is, I will keep it in mind if I'm down this way. read more

The owner, according to a recent conversation I overheard while checking out after dinner, has sold China Bell and they are closing. A quick internet search turned up a Dispatch story that a marijuana dispensary has purchased the building and as soon as they can clear some zoning restrictions China Bell will close. China Bell has definitely earned my respect as my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant. This place started out as a Holiday Inn restaurant back in 1964 and it's still going strong today. The food here is excellent with all the standard American Chinese dishes that are popular from coast to coast, the dets are at the very end... Their chefs do Cantonese, Hunan, Sichuan and Thai with ease., I haven't noticed any of that portion cutting or price increases that I've been seeing in many other restaurants. This long-time Columbus favorite appeals mainly to middle-class Gen Xs and Boomers. The decor is tasteful and a little elegant with softly playing background music which makes for a relaxing space to enjoy conversation with friends. Their service is typically very good, never had an issue. Plus, there's a great bottled wine special that's worth checking, too. If you haven't been, give them a try. 5 Stars. You Really Have To Check Out A Few Dishes Here: (A+) Pad Thai - This is one of the few Chinese restaurants that have mastered this Thai dish. Kudos to China Bell for the correct balance of sweet, spicy and sour! (A+) General Tso's - Lightly battered crispy outside, juicy tender white meat inside and tossed in a delicious savory sauce. One of the best in Columbus metro area. (A+) War Ba - A very unique dish! A huge portion of shrimp, scallops, chicken and vegetables in a savory white sauce. I get mine without the sizzling rice. (A) Spicy Chicken - An excellent spicy stir fry. It's got a good kick to it. (A) Almond Chicken - Not ABC, this is a great mild stir fry medley of Chinese vegetables, chicken and lots of almonds. (A) Spicy Crab Rangoon - These are delicious! If you are a fan of Crab Rangoon and you like some mild jalapeño heat. Good size portion too. (A) Pork And Green Beans - My friend Darlene raves about this one. (A) Sesame Beef - Again, a favorite of Darlene's. It's battered in corn starch so it comes out crispy outside and tender inside. Great sesame flavor too. (B+) Egg Rolls. Standard versions. They have pork and vegetarian rolls. (B+) Cashew Chicken - Nice mix of chicken and Chinese vegetables. Mild but savory. (B) Hot and Sour / Egg Drop Soup - Both are good versions. I like that China Bell puts pieces of mushrooms and water chestnuts in the Egg Drop. Ahhhh, it's been a while since I've been here and it was good as ever. The pork egg roll and hot and sour soup was in a huge bowl! Our server, Ray, was so good. He was always around but not rushed. He named each dish as it was placed down which is rare anymore. I ordered the black pepper chicken which was the perfect amount of heat and the vegetables were cooked just right, crisp tender. This is a family owned local spot with an older crowd mostly. It has a very nice interior. It is showing a little age but I have a lot of respect for family owned restaurants that are still alive and kicking after the last few years. The prices and portions have not spiked and suffered, respectively, and for that I'm grateful and we had a lovely relaxed dinner with musak softly playing. read more

Love that food is served on old school blue and white dishes, and drinks were kept filled throughout the meal. Bill for us before tip was $54 and change for appetizer, two entrees and two soft drinks. Lettuce wraps were great, chicken lo mein was standard, general tsos was good with a fair amount of spice, BUT when we cut into the larger chicken chunks, they were absolutely raw. Notified the server, and he had the dish redone, but that's a scary prospect. Overall, if not for the cooking issue, I would have given a better rating. read more

Ordering was quick and easy via phone and online menu. We used the drive-thru, which was easy. They were accurate and friendly. The sweet and sour shrimp was pretty good. The refried rice was a bit salty but everything else was really good! The shrimp was crunchy and the sauce was good too. The crab rangoons were super full and quite cream cheesy. The donuts were a bit bland, I melted some chocolate over them (way better!). Overall, this was a good experience!! We look forward to coming back. read more

We have been coming to China Bell for over 25 years. During shut down, we used the drive-through. The food has always been delicious and the service is great. We enjoy the buffet and glad to see it is back on Sundays. We hope the closing rumor is false. read more

Today I had lunch at China Bell in Grove City. My friend Mike had a great lunch and we were able to eat and share some delicious food! I ordered beef and broccoli and Mike had Pad Thai. I was just amazed at the portion size of the meal! I think I might have brought half of it home! There was a large portion of fried rice and the beef and broccoli filled up the rest of the plate! There was plenty of broth too I tried a taste of Mikes Pad Thai also.It was really tasty! I had never tried it before. I'm not sure of the spelling but I hope it's close to the correct spelling! The service of our food was pretty okay but the food did not served at the same time. I really liked how the restaurant was decorated! There were several rooms and each room had a different theme! So you could be seated in a room that's fitted to your mood! I'm sure that I will visit here again. read more

A place where a lot of the seniors go. The food is average basic Chinese food. I Had the lunch General Tso with fried rice, eggroll, and soup for 10.50. The egg drop soup had a fishy taste to it, warm rather than hot in temperature. The General Tso was sweet but not that spicy. The eggroll was hot. I would say the food was ok. I wasn't excited with what I ordered. My order was for the pork lo main, which turned out to be chicken. Food came out too fast to be cooked fresh. My egg rolls was still cold in the center so I didn't get to eat it. Kind of turned me off for my whole meal. The ambiance was ok not too noisy, but the restaurant is a little out dated and the carpet is worn down and dingy. Would I visit again? Not sure if anytime soon. read more

While I have always loved this place, and the food has always been great. Our most recent experience that transpired on 3/4 was less than satisfactory. Not only was the waiter rushing around and didn't hand everything out everyone (she dropped everything on the table for us to hand it out), we were attacked by so many gnats (fruit flies) that we ended up asking for a box prematurely so we could get the food covered before gnats flew in it and we left. My dish still had food on it when about 4 gnats landed on my plate and several others swarmed the table and our other food. It was very disappointing. The bad part. We were not the only ones shoo'ing the pests away...... I have always liked this place, and the food. However, the lack of pest control, which means cleaning or they wouldn't be an issue tells me I should rethink a out how clean this place truly is. read more

This is one of my friend's favorite places. I was only here once before, I only had an appetizer and something else (can't remember) but it was average. I generally rate ethnic restaurants by the clientele. If you go to a Chinese restaurant and see Chinese people eating there, then you know it's good. Same for Ethiopian, Indian, Somalian, Korean, etc. The 1st time I was here all I saw were white people. So I decide to try it again, because it was late, I was hungry & I was in Grove City and didn't want any food from a franchise. I came in pretty late, like 30 minutes before closing. Few cars in the parking lot. The host told me that I could sit at the bar if I liked, since I was quite concerned that it was basically the end of night. Went to the bar, there were only 5 people at the bar, 2 couples and one single. I ordered wor su gai and chicken pot stickers. The bartender was very friendly, courteous, professional & helpful. The wor su gai had two gravies (brown & yellow), I didn't know the difference so she brought out both. The yellow was bland and the brown had allspice (very different from any other Chinese place), I didn't like either. So she got me some garlic sauce instead. Two thumbs up for China Bell's Crab Rangoon. Good flavor, and there were pieces of imitation crab throughout that was recognizable. While the Sesame Chicken gave off a bit too much soy sauce-ish undertones, I really enjoyed the Lemon Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken. This is one of my go to places in GC for chinese food. We ordered here on Christmas Day since we werent going to family to celebrate the holiday. I called to place our order, but it took them quite a few rings for them to finally answer. When they did, I gave them my order and they advised that it would be 30-35 minutes, which was understandable given that it was Christmas Day. We picked up the food and brought it home and it was delicious!! I ordered my usual of sweet & sour chicken and the hubby had the cashew chicken. We had alot of food for leftovers the next day. I highly recommend this place!! I did not get to see much, but from what I could see from the lobby, the inside of the restaurant was beautiful! read more

After years of visiting friends in Grove city, Ohio, we finally decided to try China, bell, and boy were delighted. We had tried a couple of other places some good some not so much. This will be their go to and mine when I'm here as well. The chicken was all white meat and seemed to be breaded there, the quality of meat was just to good to be pre breaded. The rice was very good and plentiful. The waitress was great and they have free ice cream with multiple flavors. We had the sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken and each had an egg roll and they were the best egg rolls we've ever had. read more

The only thing we didn't like were their egg rolls. There was something off about the taste. I suggest that Yelp update the price list for them, Yelp shows our dinner as 10.50 with soup and egg roll. Ever have a meal so awful your pissed off you spent the money? Because thats how I felt about this mongolian beef. What pcs of meat there were, laying on top of some soy sauce saturated noodles. Yuk! The onions both green and white were ok. The egg roll was disgusting. Old, dark brown so it was saturated with oil because the temperature wasnt high enough when it was fried. I dont know if these are handmade but I hope not because if they are there the worst Ive had!
