The Hibachi bar at 9:30pm, the website says they close at 10:30pm on Fridays

Highly disappointed with my experience here. My dad and I enjoy Chinese buffets because we can eat cheap, delicious food, so we decided to eat here for our meal after he had a long drive to come to Charlotte. We got to this location at 9:20pm and began eating by 9:25. By 9:30pm, 10 minutes after we had arrived, the food was already being taken away from the buffets! I expressed how we had just arrived and that we wouldn't have eaten here if we knew the food was being taken away already, but the manager only said that he could get me one more hibachi plate. I was livid. I gathered as much of the stale, dry, and abandoned food on the buffet that I could before it was taken away. It's obvious that the food had been sitting out for a couple hours and not restocked intentionally. Not only that, but the manager then said that they close at 10pm instead of their posted 10:30pm Friday time! They began rushing us out of the restaurant, so I had to shovel down as much food as I could before being kicked out and having to pay $60 for two people!!! This food is neither cheap, nor delicious. I will never be returning to this location again! No one eat here that values a good meal, it won't be found here, only empty buffets.

This has been our GO-TO Chinese buffet since about 2014! Every single time we go, the food is always delicious and on point. They offer hibachi grill, ample selection of sushi, fruit, salad, and regular Chinese food along with a selection of dessert. There is never a wait for us to get a table, and even when we have gone and it's been super busy, there is never a wait. There is plenty of table seating and a wide open seating plan. Service is always great, and the waitresses to the hostess are always super friendly and accommodating. They always check the food to make sure they refill quickly, and we hardly ever get any food that seems that it has been sitting there for a while. They do offer plenty of parking spaces to choose from. For a good variety of food, I definitely recommend this Chinese Buffet.

Decent for a Chinese buffet. I've had better and I've had worse. This one was definitely in the A-OK range. Seated quickly and off to the buffet, there was a good stock of plates ready. The steam tables were low on some items and it seemed like the kitchen was more focused on platters of delivery items being cooked and foiled up then placed on trolleys and taken out. This continued for about a half hour and then things improved some. I managed to stick to a keto-in-spirit eating program by avoiding the noodles and rice and battered. I did one trip to the hibachi that was mostly beef and onions and peppers, but the chef overcooked them to beyond well done. The beef turned tough. The sushi selections looked good and not all of them were covered in sauces. Some basic sashimi items there were nice. I skipped dessert and did not drink soda. $14 or so was fair for the amount and the quality of food. They also have a free wifi. My waitress kept my water refilled and cleared dishes promptly. When it was time for the check, she processed it quickly there too. [Review 11334 overall, 1111 of 2019.]

0/5 Food was terrible, the plates, bowls, and spoons were plastic, ruined our evening, and was the causation of a terrible breakup

Mister Tokyo delivered exactly that kind of danger today, the good kind, the kind where you already know you're going to waddle out the door but you don't care because every bite is worth it. The service was friendly and warm from the start, the kind of easy hospitality that makes it simple to settle in and start ordering without feeling rushed or judged. My waiter brought me a menu without hesitation and never blinked when I ordered another plate and then another, just kept the rhythm going with a smile and the kind of quiet efficiency that makes the whole experience feel smooth and relaxed. I worked my way through seaweed salad, nigiri rolls, sashimi, chicken katsu, and even a few hand rolls because sometimes you want to feel a little fancy while you're stuffing yourself silly. Everything was prepared well, everything arrived quickly, and everything tasted fresh and clean, which is exactly what you want when you're committing to a long lunch of steady grazing. It was all really great and I loved every bit of it. Five stars for Mister Tokyo. [Review 176 of 2026 - 4562 in North Carolina - 25365 overall]

I've been to a few good restaurants and I owe a written review so that's coming soon. As we were leaving church, we figured we didn't want to prepare dinner at home so we decided to dine out afterwards. But given that I have work the next day, we didn't want to venture too far from home so we decided to try Koishi. To be honest, the ratings for this place weren't encouraging. It had mixed reviews and quite a few were rather troubling. Nonetheless, we pushed on and told ourselves, if we weren't happy, we'd avoid this place going forward. We decided on a fairly light fare. My wife ordered the wonton soup and the calamari and I just had the sushi and sashimi sampler with a side of seaweed salad. The wonton broth was flavorful. The wonton dumplings were bland. Needed a dip of soy sauce to bump up the flavor. We give that a C+. The broth gets an A. The seaweed salad gets a B+. Nothing spectacular about it but it was prepared well and had a clean, non-fishy aftertaste. The sampler was uneven. The unagi roll was also bland despite the fact that the roll was already drenched in its sauce. It needed a dunk in soy sauce to amp the taste. I give that a C+. The sushi was gratefully, much better. I separated the fish from the rice and tried it plain. It was well seasoned. The umami taste of the vinegar was subtle yet noticeable. The fish was fresh and clean tasting. I give the sushi and sashimi an A-. The service, while still prompt and efficient was friendly. The restaurant looked clean and fairly busy. The decor had a nice warm atmosphere. Lots of dark wood furniture. In summary, this place definitely warrants a repeat. I will be back and will taste the rest of their menu to get a better sense of their repertoire. Overall, I'd give this joint a four star... for now. More to come.

The romantic ambience, the extremely knowledgable, and polite staff, and the extra steps they take to make your special night memorable. We started with the Yunta Balls and Chicharron with sweet potatoes, both were great options. I had the Beef Nigiri, and my boyfriend had Beef Anticucho. He said the meat was a bit tough but flavorful. Decent portion sizes. He was surprised with a key lime pie dessert and our server captured the moment on a Polaroid so we could have something to remember the night. Amazing touch, and Yunta deserves their high rating. Highly recommend!! We will definitely be back.

Great food and such a fun experience!…read more We loved trying a variety of foods and cooking them ourselves making it a unique experience. We had great service. Our waiter had a few tables and did not stop all night from drinks to food he was always there to help up. The broccoli with melted cheese and cheese corn were some of our favorites! I've enjoyed Korean barbecue many times, so when I saw the price, I thought I had found a great midday option. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to expectations. The happy hour kalbi turned out to be four small pieces of meat for $9.95, which I had to cook myself. A bowl of rice was an additional charge, and there were no sides, vegetables, soup, or salad included. I left the restaurant still hungry, which is never a good sign after lunch. What disappointed me most was the lack of guidance and hospitality. As someone new to Japanese-style barbecue, I asked a few simple questions to understand what I was ordering. When I confirmed this was the happy hour portion, the server said yes--but didn't explain the serving size or suggest additional items. A little coaching would have gone a long way. At one point, when I asked whether the meal came with sides like banchan or rice, I was told, "This is not Korean barbecue." I completely understand the distinction now, but the tone felt curt rather than helpful. Hospitality is about helping guests navigate something unfamiliar, not making them feel like they should already know. I also ordered iced water with lemon, and the lemon never arrived...only the ice water. Was this an omen of what's to come?? Another frustration was the parking situation. I paid for parking through ParkMobile outside the restaurant, only to discover after entering that parking validation was available inside. That information would have been much more useful if it had been communicated clearly before guests park or pay. From a customer experience standpoint, it feels like something that could easily be improved with better signage--lead with the good stuff. The location itself is also somewhat isolated. While technically in Uptown, it's not in a particularly walkable or high-traffic area, so most guests will need to park in a garage or pay for street parking. There isn't much nearby other than an apartment complex above the restaurant, which makes clear parking instructions and strong service even more important. To be fair, the restaurant was clean, and the meat itself was flavorful. The concept of Japanese BBQ is interesting, and I now understand that this style is very different from Korean BBQ, with smaller, à-la-carte portions designed to be built into a meal. That said, the overall experience felt transactional rather than welcoming. I left hungry--and disappointed--not because of the food quality, but because the service and communication could have been better at several points along the way. This visit felt like a missed opportunity. With a little more attentiveness, clearer guidance, and stronger customer engagement, the experience could have been completely different. Don't let one restaurant deter you. Life is short--get out there and eat.
