They were other locations for Asian food in the area but they were delivery and take out only. As we walk to the front door we saw a sign that said we are clean. That was enough for me to eat at this location. We were immediately greed it at the door by young man well I learned later was named David. David walked us to our table gave us two plastic cooking gloves and asked what we would like to drink. The Buffet had plenty of food but not a large variety that I would've like to see. But they continue to bring out hot food, and David continue to clean around the Buffay table. He was very careful to bring everyone into the facility and sent them separately. However there was one couple with two children that entered and did not have a mask, and there was one Lady of that group that went to the Buffay table without her glove. I would've like to see that be in forced. Besides that small unclean family not coming to common decency about stairs and state mandates about mask, the food was delicious there was an equal amount of meats, salads and fruit and desserts. But I would've liked to have seen more vegetables on the Buffet. Can't beat the service though, our server was very kind and you could see (figuratively) the smile through her mask. She was very hospitable and courteous and concerned about our visit. I just didn't want to ruin the mood mentioning that family without the mask, because we were finishing our dinner. But I won't let that little incident stop me from coming back to this wonderful establishment with this great service and delicious food. Thank you for being open during this temporary season in America and the world. I will be back!

Pretty good, even at 2:30 in the afternoon. There were fresh items being brought out to restock the steam tables. The usual staples of such things - beef and brocoli, battered chicken in a lemon sauce, lo mein noodles, fried rice and the like. As well, one bar dedicated to fried stuff, including french fries, onion rings, crab rangoon and spring rolls. I skipped that one. Dessert bar had some fruit and cake that looked like it wasn't worth the effort, but they have to try, right? Full meal, $6.99. $3 tip because the gal kept my water glass filled and cleared dirty plates quickly. I thought it was pretty good. Better than most. I was especially pleased that it was this good between the lunch and dinner crowds.

This place has big selection of food to pick from and the price is worth it. To top it off the cashier was definitely helpful.

Spring rolls and fried chicken are good and they have ice cream. The rest of the food needs work.

First China is located in a very accessible area of town two stores down from Harris Teeter on Old Monroe. That said their lobby isn't much to look at as if they don't want diners. So, if you're wanting to belly up to a table and get your carbs on, no dice hombre. They packed my meal very well and it was still so hot when I got home, I almost burnt my tongue (I live literally behind Harris Teeter). The shrimp egg rolls were really good! Crunchy, not soaked in grease, and flavorful. The Wonton soup is pretty boring with a barely flavored broth and too much noodle to filling ratio. The same goes for the egg drop soup which I believe used the same broth? Not sure but both were boring. The Crab Rangoons were fairly standard, not bad but not outstanding either. Now onto the main courses! I'm going to start with my least favorable item the pork fried rice. While the rice was perfectly cooked and the meat was plentiful, the execution was off. I almost think the cap from the soy sauce broke off b/c the rice was seriously dark and the soy flavor was off the charts. I didn't enjoy it and this is the third Chinese restaurant to cook this way. I'm not sure if that's the style now, but I don't care for it. As for the protein, I was expecting Char Siu for pork. For those who don't know that's the pork with the red ring and very tasty with notes of Asian goodness. The pork I got was just added to a hot work and not cooked with traditional Chinese methods. Next up was the Lo Mein. The noodles tasted stale to me as if they've been laying around for a while or in some package. Moreover, I wish restaurants would be more consistent as the noodles weren't round but like a rectangle if looking at it from the top. While this may sound trivial the shape of food makes a different in flavor. For instance, elbow macaroni doesn't taste like spaghetti even though they're the same ingredients. That's because it hits the taste buds differently and tricks our minds into thinking it's a flavor rather than texture. Finally, and I noticed this off the bat, is great Chinese restaurants have a slight smoky flavor to Lo Mein and fried rice among some other dishes. This is subtle yet can really elevate the dish and it comes from a wok that's been seasoned for years. I know I'm nitpicking here but these things really make a difference. The chicken Mei Fun is a simple dish yet very affective. Plenty of green onion, bok-choy, onion & eggs along with thin rice noodles and plenty of meat. The flavor is on point with what I'm accustom to having however I do like carrots in mine. Overall, not bad. Overall, First China isn't inspiring yet not the worst I've had. My family thought it was ok, but when splurging on carbs I want a delicious endeavor as I don't gorge too often. Also, I wish they'd add a Beef Chow Fun to the menu as I have to go to Matthews to get it. The people are nice but it's a very quick interaction so I guess that's good. In summary I'd say it's mid.

That's a problem if the cook can't identify peanuts and cashews. This time I ordered the Twice Cooked Pork and received thick planks of overcooked pork. Traditionally this dish is made with a spicy red bean paste. Maybe the cook was confused and was attempting to season and cook it like Pernil because this one was made with red food colouring and cayenne. The flavours and cooking taste like someone has poorly cooked Latino food all their life or are attempting to destroy what was once a good Chinese takeaway. Will need to find a takeout now where people respect the cuisine they are cooking. 糟糕的食物 (zāogāo de shíwù)

This last time I got it the sauce was ok but the dumplings were just not the same. Bummer. Of course prices have gone up, so paying more for a lesser taste experience is not a win in my book. I also ordered my fave moo shoo chicken- which came with the 'pancakes' but no duk sauce. This is a big oversight for this dish. And also no rice. Service was quick & friendly -ambiance, well, I ran in & out. I also missed the days when this place gave you a free 3-liter when you spent a certain amount...new management, perhaps? I'd still give them another try tho- we go back a ways....
