One star is one too many for China Buffet. We arrived at 8:50 p.m. tonight (Wednesday). Although the sign on the door said that the restaurant was open until 10, the surly host informed us that they were closing at 9:30. We should have taken the hint and left, but we figured that 40 minutes of buffet time was plenty. When we got to the buffet it was thoroughly picked over. Nothing had been restocked in quite some time. There were lots of empty bins; the Hibachi was closed; and they were even out of rice. We grabbed what we could and headed back to the table. Nothing whatsoever was restocked while we were there. Despite that, they seated about a dozen more people. By 9:15 they were breaking down the buffet and pointedly cleaning around us. They saved the best for last, presenting us with a full-price check for their half-a##ed buffet. Upon leaving, the surly host remarked, "see you again." I responded, "no, you won't." read more

I chose one star because it won't let you choose ZERO!!! Worst experience ever! The staff didn't even care that the food was extremely old or just a dirty , empty container where the even older food once was. The staff was either standing around talking or on their phone instead of addressing all the customer complaints. Not one customer there was happy with the food quality. So myself and two other Individuals who had the same disgusted face I did, decided to demand fresh food. The manager finally came over and asked exactly which food I would like them to cook. We decided to stop in and get some dinner the other night after a movie at Four Seasons. This wasn't our first visit, and we have always been satisfied with the food at China Buffett. We were seated quickly, the food was fresh and restocked (we were also there at 6pm), and there was plenty of sushi to choose from. If you are a sushi lover, you'll be satisfied with the sushi but not overly impressed. I have to agree with another reviewer on the Black Pepper Chicken. It used to be my favorite dish there, but the other night it was ground up with jalapenos and extremely spicy (and I love spicy food). For my hubby who is not a spicy food fan, it was more of a traumatic experience. I've always thought the restaurant and restrooms are clean here, though once I found the ice cream scooper water "bucket" to be milky looking. Granted ice cream goes it in, however, they should keep it fresh. I have to admit reading the review about the kid licking the ice cream scoop and it not being cleaned has me rethinking a revisit. read more

You usually know what to expect when you go to a Chinese Buffet... but China Buffet manages to exceed my expectations every time. Many people do not realize that right between the Sushi & made to order Hibachi is a seriously DELICIOUS soup station - also made to order. They offer 3 or 4 soups daily - and they are AWESOME. You have a choice of broth - spicy or regular, a choice of protein - shrimp, chicken -- even roast duck. Just last night I had the spicy version with roast duck - with cellophane noodles, mushrooms, scallions, and more... I wish I were eating it again right now. It was seriously YUMMY. They also offer a surprisingly wide variety of sushi - I would rate it above-average - as well as your standard, expected dishes. Some of my favorites are the Korean Chicken (has a good spicy kick,) the Shrimp & Crab with Broccoli, and the Salt & Pepper Shrimp. So if you are feeling particularly hungry & you want to keep it easy & casual but still yummy, give China Buffet a shot. The adult dinner was $11.99, which is a fair/average price. We ate around 6 pm, so the food was freshly made and a good temperature. There is a lot of variety and the made-to-order hibachi was delicious! The sushi was not that good, but I think that's to be expected. The service was decent but the food was disgusting. On the buffet nothing looked appetizing and the seafood dishes were very fishy. Everything had a funny taste and was like it had been sitting there under the lamp for awhile. Nothing fresh, especially the sushi. Some pieces were turning brown so I didn't even risk it. I enjoyed the food at China Buffet so much the last time I was there, that I decided to return the next weekend. I shouldn't have done that. I should have just left it alone. Online the website says this place closes at 10:30. Posted on the door, it says they close at 11:00, on Saturday. My boyfriend and I showed up around 10 till' 9 on Saturday evening. The parking lot had a lot of cars out, and the inside looked pretty busy too, so we thought we weren't too late to get some good buffet food. I started making my first plate at around 9, and there was still a pretty broad selection of food. After I went through, and then maybe 8 or 9 other people went through... The food was starting to get a little sparse. They never refilled those containers. There was people standing around at several of the containers waiting for the food to be refilled, and it never came. The thing is- they didn't close for another two hours. I think that's very unacceptable. We were paying for a service we didn't receive, in its entirety. At any rate, I won't go back. It's a shame too, because the food was pretty good. read more

Decent Chinese buffet. Nothing great, but they have a good selection of so-so dishes. It certainly doesn't smell like urine or a nursing home as one other reviewer stated. It smells like a Chinese buffet. One plus is that they have a mongolian bbq station where you can pick your ingredients and have them cooked fresh with your choice of sauces. The WORST buffet I've experienced. 92 sanitation! The food was cold!! Literally. I ate one green bean and 5 crab rangoons bc everything was cold and bland. Manager tried to charge me $16.01 for the dinner buffet for 5 rangoons?? No way sir! Then suggested a $2.00 discount?? $14.01?? Seriously man?? The he decided on half off. It's a OK if you know what you are going to get: cheap industrial food. It's a regular all you can eat with the common Chinese stuff. It's clean which is good, but the sushis makers have troubles to keep up with the demand which is sad. I am not very fond of this kind of food esp, chinese one as you feel overcharged with flavour enhancer but from time to time, you want to eat like a beast. read more

It's probably the best Chinese buffet in Greensboro...that's not saying a lot though. The decor is nice and the service is great--on my recent visit I got a refill pretty much every time I took a sip. The main buffet offers a couple seafood items, maybe one beef dish, but is mostly all about the chicken. Pretty much all the dishes are over cooked and there's not a lot of taste variation between them. The hibachi is a solid choice and the sushi is a cut above what most buffets offer. If you need all you can eat Chinese food China Buffet will do the job, just don't expect the quality to approach decent take out. read more

Best things about this place are the soup/hibachi bar and sushi. Hate typical, gross, greasy china buffet options and can totally avoid all hot buffet selections because of the soup bar and sushi. Had the ho fen soup with tofu and it was really good. Well-flavored and fresh tasting! Sushi selection today was better than I have seen here in the past. We came in around 8pm Saturday as a first time visitor. It was easy to get a table with a big group. Lobby is nice and very welcoming. There's a nice fountain with goldfish -- good to keep the kids busy. I was surprised at the large selection of Chinese food here. The had some crabs too. The food taste was average overall - nothing to wow about. Sushi was not readily available to grab. We had to ask the guy at the sushi counter to make sushi for us. He happily and quickly makes it for you without style or presentation -- he grabs some rice, squeezes it together, and slaps the salmon on top. 45 seconds tops! Oh, and he makes you grab your empty plate for him before he starts. Weird -- but I think they're trying to be cheap and discourage too much sushi eating by "hiding" the it. Lots of desserts, too, - mini cakes, ice cream, jello, tons of fruit. They had some other non-Asian style foods like wings, pizza, mac and cheese, which I didn't bother trying. Chinese Buffets are hit or miss. Unfortunately, I have found that most are lacking something , usually good food. On the other hand, once a good one is discovered, returning again and again becomes the norm, or at least that is the way it is at my house. The China Buffet on Big Tree Way is one of the good ones. In fact, I'd go as far as say it is really good. It helps that it is relatively new, and the décor is fresh and everything looks nice and shiny. If you aren't familiar with Greensboro, Big Tree Way is off Wendover Ave. W right off I-40. You can see the China Buffet from the intersection and its size is the first thing you notice that separates it from most Chinese buffets; it is huge. The reason I mention this is because it is obviously a well funded business venture which means the food is more likely to be good and fresh-at least that is the way I rationalize things. We were seated right away and I excused myself after giving the waiter my drink order to delve into the food. The selection is amazing. If I had to guess, I would say there are 120+ items to choose from. And, if your kids don't like Chinese, don't fret, there is something there for everyone. Additionally, they offer a Hibachi and sushi. Unlike most Chinese Buffets that offer sushi, China Buffet has a real sushi chef (say that fast five times) and there were copious amounts of sushi to choose from. Best of all, the annoying tip jar that you see at many of these places was not present here. And, they had sushi plates to put your sushi on so that it didn't get tainted by the food on your plate. This may seem like a little thing, but for me the little things matter. For desert you can choose from three or four different puddings, jell-o, fruit, cakes, cookies and most of the things you see at other buffets. However, Chinese Buffet also boasts 10 flavors of "scoop your own" ice cream and it isn't the cheap stuff so many buffets serve. For a Chinese buffet, this meal was outstanding. This place has taken a beating over fellow Yelp-ers charge of sanitation or lack of it. This is a cafeteria, not a fine china dining bodega. With that being said, its a china buffet. Plenty of pans of oddities & then the staple General Tso's, fried rice, rangoon, dumplings, etc. The perk, yes, hibachi prep, soup station & sushi, yes, sushi. Remember this is more of a Target than a Victoria's Secret for underwear or more of a Wal-Mart not Sears for hand tools. Its big, caters to a ton of people & is a belly-filler. Food is usually not bad - they have a good selection - but they jacked their prices up recently. Some of the wait staff are rude: they keep looking at you and sometimes even peek over to see what tip you are giving them. And they greet only certain customers 'thank you' when they leave... Advice: Your service provides as much weightage as the quality of your food. Learn to treat all customers with respect and don't hold your breath on the tips - ESP if you are rude and uncourteous. Went with my mother today (10/25/17). Nearly everything on the buffet was awful. Noodles were hard and uncooked, chicken was chewy, sushi was dry and questionably fresh, most food tastes like it was sitting out too long. Disgusting food. When we have the manager our concerns he hardly cared. The waitress started speaking Chinese in a loud manner that was presumably mocking us while she was cleaning our table when we left. This place is great. I'm not sure how many items are on the buffet, but I am sure it is over 100. Everything is very fresh and tastes great. I mainly go because of the sushi bar, it is great to try out different types of sushi. Haven't tried the Hibachi grill, but it looks great. I hate to admit that I have been here twice and both times were equally disappointing. The food never seems fresh. Everything is sticky. The hand washing station had a mop in it. The sushi was luke warm, which seems a little unsanitary. I will not be returning. I felt dirty for eating there and even dirtier for eating there twice. I had the privelege of eating here and was HIGHLY impressed. The staff is friendly, the food is fresh and always at the right temperature. I love the hibachi grill. The ability to pick out my own food makes me happy. The price tage of $14.50 (including drink and meal) is well worth it. After all you're getting the option of eating meals that would cost about $30.00/person. Even the sushi alone from Harris Teeter would cost more than this alone. I am very pleased! We went here on Christmas Day, because sometimes you're just not doing the big family get together. We enjoyed the food selections - by far the most options I've seen that were regularly filled, cleaned, and maintained by a busy staff. There are the usual expected selections, sushi, soups, cooked to order hibabchi, entrees, salad/cold food, and desserts. What makes this place stand out I believe is the sushi options. There are many more varieties than I'm used to seeing at Asian buffets. While you cannot request specific listings, there are more than just 3-5 different options. Raw rolls mainly, and a few cooked options. If my memory is correct, there were 11 different options on Christmas when I went to the bar. Entrees - all the expected choices were there - chicken, beef, pork and shrimp selections, and a few vegetarian selections (seemed to be very few - if looking for vegetarian options I'd question the options here carefully). I didn't try the hibachi or soups, and there is only so much small samples you can do before you really can't eat any more. Everything I tried was fine, nothing wowed me, but nothing was below standard. Cons: The restaurant is nicely designed, although aging. I'm not a fan of seeing the drink/cleanup station in middle of floor, but its how most restaurants are designed. Nothing unusual there. I think the music could be a little louder. Maybe I'm just getting too old, but I don't really hear it, and can hear other patrons sitting nearby. TLDR: Good buffett options with higher than expected options. Overall great value for price. Would highly recommend for value/taste. Would avoid if you have low willpower when it comes to all you can eat options. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. We came at 9 pm the closed at 10:30. My husband asked if they would make more sushi. The man making said no. I complained and the hostess said he was on break and he would would make more. When he finally came back from break he was slamming stuff and mad because we had requested sushi. I complained to the manager and mentioned that all that was on the buffet was scraps. The manager and staff was rude. We will not be coming back! We usually go to the same restaurant about 1 a month. "Ok" is the best way for me to describe my dining experience at China Buffet. It wasn't bad, but it surely wasn't great. It was just ok. They had a huge variety of food on the buffet, but very heavy on the American food selections. My son really enjoyed the hibachi, but I didn't try it. I did try the sushi though and it was kinda fishy tasting. I didn't hate it, but I also don't need to go back again, especially without other chinese good options in the area. read more
