My husband and I always choose this place for the few dinner nights we get, whenever we have enough money after bills, we go here and always enjoy it. Im Alaskan native and love my seafood and this is the only place I can afford and get so many options!!! I've been going to the China Buffet for a long time and am always impressed with their reasonable price and great selection of food. This is not gourmet food, but it tastes good and there's ton of variety. I don't know much about sushi, but I love all the options. Lots of people complain about the cleanliness of this restaurant, but I figure any buffet is going to be less clean than a regular restaurant because it is self serve. Also, some reviewers complain about the service. This is not a standard restaurant, it's a buffet, so you should not expect...service! Missoula is one of my favorite towns in the US and I look forward to visiting at least once a year. During each visit I almost always ask my brother to take me to the China Buffet. I bet you are asking why would a person who lives in San Francisco want to go eat Chinese Buffet when he goes to Montana, I would think the same thing, however for some reason I really like the food there and the staff is always very friendly. Honestly, I do not like buffets. I was taken here by a foodie whose taste I trust... Having said that, this place was amazing. For a lunch that costs less than $7, you get to prove just how gluttonous a human can be and test the boundaries of your digestive system. My friends and I were looking for a quick Chinese food fix that still fit on a tight college budget - we definitely found that here. China Buffet has a HUGE selection, which is awesome. However, the food is greasy and not homemade, but you do get your money's worth here. My only complaint was the water - I just ordered a glass of water and it tasted like it came out of a hose. I'm not sure if it was the glass or what, but I've never tasted water like that in Missoula. When my friends and I went to pay after we finished, our cashier was on the phone the whole time and overcharged us - very rude and inconsiderate. In summary, this place does not offer quality food. We have been going here for over 10 years almost once a month. Never got sick and I ate EVERYTHING including mussels. This is not supposed to be gourmet dining for $7.99 - get real. The owner and staff are very polite to us so I don't understand the hurtful comments. The Dim Sum pork dumplings are great as are the pork ribs, pot stickers and calamari mixtures. The Sushi is fine considering what a real sushi bar would charge - get real again, Your not going to get salmon and yellowtail sushi for that price. This town doesn't really have great Chinese food, and I've never been to this place in person, but we had some food delivered. I found it to be pretty decent mu shu and shrimp and brocolli. I don't understand the negative comments. I used to go there regularly until I moved to CA a year ago. I've been back to Missoula three times in the year I moved away and it is the first eatery on my list, which consists of three place I to go to in Missoula. I found a couple very good Chinese eateries in the area I live in CA, and they have more of a selection, but not any better than China Buffet. I'm not a fan of the Missoula's desserts, though, especially the cheap stuff they try to pass off as ice cream. Even all the toppings can't make up for it. "The Butt" It has had this nickname since it opened by my High School friends. The staff is about 50/50 friendly and keep your fork attitude. The bathrooms are horrible due to the food being rented instead of being purchased. But all that said (no pun intended), you cant go wrong with food to price ratio. As Chinese buffets go, this is not one I would recommend, based solely on the food. I was craving a quick Chinese dinner and because Missoula doesn't have any great Chinese I thought I would give China Buffet one more chance. Unfortunately the food is just gross. All of the food there looks like your average Chinese buffet, but does not taste like it. The rice and broccoli had a bleachy aftertaste and overall the was food was uneatable. China buffet has good food.. But the staff makes you feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome! So unwelcome in fact, that asking for a refill on your soda is terrifying. I don't exactly expect world class service at a "self serving" style of restaurant but I do expect to be treated as an appreciated guest/customer. Good as far as Chinese buffets go, but most of them (IMHO) are pretty much the same. I'm not from the area (I'm from the Los Angeles area) and come here with family when we visit. The food is no where near authentic (I'm Chinese, and grew up in Taiwan) but it's good for Americanized-Chinese food. The 'sushi' seemed better last night than it was previously (last April and last December) which was a plus. As long as the food isn't sitting around for too long and is relatively fresh, it tastes good. The dumplings/dimsum selection is pretty sad, and I never eat those; but I'm used to really good, authentic dimsum some of which would probably not go well here (shark's fin, chicken feet, shrimp, BBQ pork, tripe, etc) Their selection is varied which works well for my kids. Don't go there expecting authentic Chinese food or anything spectacular. read more
