Very disappointed with their offering of Shrimp Lo Mein. First of all - the shrimp was breaded ! One does not put breaded shrimp in Lo Mein. The noodles were dry, sticky and tasteless. It's been over a year since my family and I have gotten take out from here. We've ordered several times in the past and have always enjoyed it. We were very disappointed to see how much the quality went down. We ordered a couple orders of sesame chicken (I've always ordered this) and it was about 90% breading. Some of the pieces didn't even have chicken inside. What chicken was there was very dried out and it was just drowning in sauce so was so soggy. Both the rice and egg rolls had a funky flavor that I cannot describe. Both my son and I took a couple of bites and could not even stomach it, it was so bad. We've never experienced this with any meal before. The restaurant, from what I could see upon pick up was filthy and did not appear to be very well taken care of. We hadn't ordered Chinese food in a long time so decided to do so from China Chef. They're take out process is so safe during this uncertain time. No contact except passing of food through a low window. I paid by credit card over the phone. Everything was delicious and huge portions. We ordered for five people and had a variety of dishes. The crab cheese appetizer was delicious. We also had lo mein , fried rice, General Tso chicken, sweet and sour chicken and Szechuan combo. Everyone enjoyed it!! I randomly ordered from here on Uber Eats and ended up loving everything I ordered. I really like the dim sum and steamed dumpling appetizers as well as the Pepper Steak. Been going there forever. I moved to NY about 15yrs ago and every time I come back I get something. Just as good as NY Chinese food! I really hope this place sticks around forever. I am a frequent customer of China Chef, being a fan of their Kung Pao tofu. I always get my food to go and am never disappointed in portions or freshness. I just like my tofu to be a bit crispier than how it's done here. Family also enjoys their seafood dishes, and if you're a fan of yummy crab rangoons, this is a must!! read more

Uber eats review. Overall it was ok. Cashew chicken was extremely over cooked and mangled. Fortune cookie was old and not crunchy, ended up throwing away. Egg drop soup was externally thick. When I found this place six months ago, I was so thrilled. Mai fun?! Scallion pancakes?! Good food reliably?? I had finally found my new neighborhood Chinese place, and I was in takeout heaven. And then the restaurant shut down during the beginning of the Covid outbreak when the shelter order was in effect. And... when they re-opened, something was off. Their dishes all taste like old recycled oil. Like it sat overnight from the day before and just got heated again in the morning. The items in my orders are often undercooked, overcooked, or both. My last order of scallion pancakes was so messed up it hurt my tooth to bite what is supposed to be a soft and chewy, slightly crispy, savory pancake. The egg rolls were weirdly gross and dark on the inside, and everything just tasted... bad. Vegetables all overcooked, just almost a 180 from the food they were making a few months ago. I really hope they can get it together and return to the cooling they were known for. Otherwise it's going to be a huge disappointment and trying to find somewhere else to go. read more

DON'T GONIF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES. Been going here for years, never had any issues bedsides their attitude. Have gotten the same thing on numerous occasions. Never had an issue. Ordered the sweet and Sour combo. On the recent of orders there was a shrimp mixed in. Which wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that there was a fish allergy. Causing a severe reaction. I called (politely) and told them. They then in return instead of saying "thank you for letting us know" they were rude once again. Telling me that it has always come with it. While eating I swallowed a sharp chicken bone which got stuck in my throat. I ended up coughing it up with a large amount of blood after about 10 minutes. I returned to the store with the food, receipt, and the bone to let them know what happened and to receive a refund. The cashier talk to the owner and they only refunded 1/2 the bill because I ate half of the food. I asked for the owner and I was told that isn't possible because he doesn't speak english. My wife and I moved into Standale about a month ago and have since eaten at 3 Chinese restaurants in the immediate area (Great China Inn, Fu Garden, and China Chef). China Chef has been the best. We've eaten there twice. It's not a ritzy place, but it's solid Chinese takeout. We have had all of the American Chinese staples: General Tso's, orange chicken, Sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoons, and potstickers. The entrees were what I hoped and expected (if only a little to sweet and syrupy). The appetizers, potstickers in particular, were excellent. Unlike the other restaurants, China Chef's food tasted fresh-made, not frier to bag stuff. The "chef's recommendation" board is also worth mentioning. We ordered Thai pineapple fried rice and General Tso's shrimp last night. The rice was awesome! Finally, each order comes with almond cookies in addition to fortune cookies. Nice touch. We recently moved to Standale and were looking to find new favorite Chinese Restaurant. Had to scratch that one out because the food was absutely disgusting. We ordered takeout that included vatiery of dishes and were just grossed out by the looks when opened the boxes. Mixed vegetables appeared overcooked and faded. Everything was drenched in (appeared to be ) same kind of brown sause as if this food was sitting somewhere over long period of time. This is honestly one of the best Chinese places out there. Value for the food is exceptional. Hands-down some of the best--if not the best--Mongolian beef I've EVER had. I wish the crab rangoons were homemade...but they're still delicious. Not a huge fan of the "happy family" special (I think it's called that). The seafood used in this special makes all the veggies taste a bit off--so I wouldn't recommend that one. Their lunch specials are AWESOME and their sweet and sour sauce is amazing. read more

I ate here for the first yesterday for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was what you'd expect for a Chinese restaurant, and it had a pretty typical menu. I ordered egg drop soup, an egg roll, and empress chicken with hot tea to drink. The soup was very good, better than a lot of places egg drop and on Sundays it is included with the meal. The egg roll was good too. It was hot and fresh, but not so hot where it burns your mouth. It wasn't overly greasy either as some egg rolls tend to be. The empress chicken was delicious. The batter was a perfect texture and the flavour was delicious. All in all I was impressed and will be going again. There were two things about the restaurant that I did not like however. The first thing was that the foyer looked kind of rundown. This is the first impression and I feel that they should take better care of it. The second thing that I didn't like was the signs posted on the wall saying that if two people split one dish there will be a $2 service charge. I think that that is ridiculous. A meal should have a set price, but shouldn't matter how many people are eating off of it. But the food and service were great and it made up for the two downfalls. read more

Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with Oxana and Todd. My wife and I frequent China Chef once every few months. We start with Crab Rangoons (more of the sweet and sour dipping sauce would be nice). I have two favorite entrees Beef with Broccoli or Beef with Vegetables. The preparation has been satisfactory, the sauces used are flavorful and not overpowering. My wife typically orders Shrimp Lo Mein and Egg Drop Soup, but she is much more adventurous than I and will order other entrees. I think the only negative is the lack of adequate parking as that store front has to share limited parking with other businesses in a busy location. With kids and car seats we just utilize take out now almost exclusively. read more

This is my husband's and I favorite chinese place. We usually get takeout but sometimes go in for lunch. The inside needs to be remodeled in my opinion but besides that everythings good. Troy is right, it is some of the best Chinese iv ever had, and i frequent it often.The wait staff is very friendly and even remembers our orders. The food is not overly seasoned or sauced. Lots of dishes on the menu which is good since its not buffet. You get a choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup when they take your order (i always go egg drop). All the food iv had so far as been awesome always really fresh and crisp like it was just made and had not been sitting out at all. I always order my food spicy it gives it a nice little zing. Its not a fancy restaurant it shares buildings with a subway and a tanning salon etc. But the atmosphere is nice they usually play piano music over the speakers so it very relaxing, the decor is simple and to the point as well. parking can sometimes be a squeeze but it not terrible i will give them my continued service for as long as possilbe. read more
