We decided to try this place on a whim and were very happy we made that choice today. It seems to be a family run business, since the only staff was a mom dad son and daughter. We're happy to support family owned businesses and this will be our go to spot for Chinese now. The hunan beef was juicy and tender, almost like biting into butter. Rice portions were fair, and the egg drop soup was warm and savory. The only small thing that we didn't like, was that the orange chicken dish had too much orange. The orange peels were too thick, making the dish bitter once bitten into. Great food, great prices, and speedy service. We will come back 100%. read more

Friendly staff, good prices and portion sizes. However, I felt the food was a bit underwhelming. I had no issues with the quality, but I didn't find the taste to be that great. The hot and sour soup did not taste like typical hot and sour soup. It was very oily and did not have a lot of flavor. The sesame chicken was mostly breading and very little chicken. I may try it again in the future, but I feel there are better options in GR. read more

Don't expect anything amazing with the aesthetics when you walk in, or if you come to dine in. But they certainly had a steady flow of take out orders coming in (you could hear each online order as it came in on their order ticker). As for the food, we got their beef & broccoli, chicken lo-mein, and orange chicken. The beef & broccoli was a solid staple, and their orange chicken was good but the orange rhines are thick and bitter if you're not ready for it (but I appreciated them since it helped balance the sweetness out!). We used to live near here and ate here all the time. I was passing through the other day and ordered some of our old favorites to go. When I picked up my food and paid for it, I started taking notice of the restaurant conditions. I needed to use the restroom before I left and I did, and couldn't miss the conditions in there either. After leaving with my food, I couldn't help but think about the conditions that I saw at the restaurant, and prayed that none of us would get sick after eating the food. Would we used to live by there but it was a pretty new restaurant and was clean and well taken care of. The food WAS very good and reasonably priced, WAS being the key word. As far as the conditions of the facility it was filthy and very worn. The pictures they show are maybe from when it was new, I should have taken some before I left. They must be paying off the health inspectors, because there is no way it would pass any even loose standards. It was the same people working as in the beginning so they must be the owners. The only reason I would ever go back here would be to see if it ever changed for the better. read more

Kung Pao Chicken was really good. It could be spicier, but that's just me. If you go in the winter keep your coat on, i dont think there is heat. Also no buffet like advertised. The buffet is storage. read more

Jia Yuan is easily the best Chinese takeout in the Walker area. I've not once been disappointed with the food I've gotten. The chicken is always cooked perfectly and not at all chewy, the prices are fair and portions are extremely generous. I can easily make two meals from one takeout order. My favorites are the sweet and sour chicken, crab Rangoon, and General tso's chicken. One area of improvement would be that the website needs to be updated. We once went to visit for the lunch buffet but were disappointed to see that there was no buffet set up. Still, the carry out is a great deal and definitely worth it for the price. read more

This is hands down the best Chinese food in Grand Rapids. The food is always amazing, and the wait isn't unreasonable. Won't lie, the dining area is maybe their only downfall, but the food is so good that it doesn't matter. This place has been open for well over a decade and have been going strong since. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. We're new to the area and we ordered Chinese food from here recently. When I went to pick it up I was appalled by the conditions inside. There were coats and bags all over the serving buffet that's used during lunch, the floors were extremely dirty and the kitchen was in awful condition - dirty, dingy and there were these weird white buckets all over the place. I'm not sure what was in them. Food? Garbage? Who knows but I took our food and threw it out. I was pretty sure my family would get food poisoning after eating here. read more

Veggie Lo mein has lots of veggies and great portion sizes for good price!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Also I've seen some reviews on how the conditions are inside? This place is great. We've been going to China Chef for a while but it's expensive and the food is not good and we decided to try somewhere new. Found Jia Yuan on yelp and I'm so glad we found it. $40 for dinner for 6 with soup and egg rolls- super value for the amount of food we got and it tasted great. My only complaint is we ordered several things spicy and it wasn't at all next time I'll get extra spicy. I wouldn't care to eat in at this place but this will be our new go to for take out! read more

This place is the best Chinese food around the Walker area. We have been ordering take takeout from them for 2 years now and not once have they failed us their food is delicious. We get takeout here about once a month and have been for about 10 years. Everything is very good. I like that you can order pints or quarts of most entrees and soups. Everyone gets what they want, it's cheaper, and less waste to get the pints. If we're getting the same thing, the quart is plenty for two.
