My general opinion on this place still stands, it's good from time to time but it's inconsistent. Today was a pretty good day here, everything was done correctly although it was all luke warm at best. Sometimes my fried dumplings are hardly fried at all but today they had great texture. Those are my must have item, I order them every time. The white rice is... white rice. Can't mess that up. The fried rice had plenty of vegetables, I find the color a bit unnatural but the flavor was good enough. The wonton soup was good but really should have been hotter, I live very close by and always pick up on time so the drive time isn't an issue. The egg roll was decent and the warmest item we got. The Tso's chicken had a great sauce and decent texture but given how hot the container was and how luke warm the meat was its obviously pre made (I'm guessing everything is here, unless your lucky). The place itself is a dingy hole in the wall spot. They do have a few tables but it's not an environment I'd want to hang out in so it's mostly a take out joint. The service hurts their score more than anything else. Their phone etiquette needs a lot of work, today they did a good job but normally they rush through the process and you feel like they don't even want your business. They might ask for your name or phone number or even give you an order number but the language barrier can complicate the pick up process so they often figure out which order is yours by asking what's in your order. A concrete system that the workers understand would go a long way to fixing this issue. Most orders take no more than 10 minutes to prepare so make sure your close by before you call or your luke warm food will end up cold by the time it hits your table. Overall this place is hit and miss but it's somehow the best bet for Chinese in this area. read more

Disappointed. I've eaten here before and it was good - this time (Easter) something was up. I got some weird brown rice (looked like white rice covered in soy sauce) as "fried rice" and the meat for happy family was just questionable. The egg rolls were so greasy I couldn't finish them. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. We found a maggot in our food--though the restaurant tried to dismiss it as a "worm." We called immediately, stayed respectful, and simply asked for a refund. Instead of apologizing, they insisted on giving us more food, even though we were already disgusted and honestly traumatized by the experience. During the call, the person refused to issue a refund until we brought the food back, which we agreed to do just to show them the maggot. When we returned, he argued with us, claiming it was just a "worm from vegetables," which is still unsanitary and completely unacceptable. He then raised his voice, threw the refund on the counter, and continued to be rude and dismissive. The customer service was appalling, and this experience left us feeling disrespected and deeply unsettled. Not sure why China City has mostly gotten bad reviews. We order the steam dumplings, veg. egg roll, szechwan shrimp & chicken. All of it was really good! The shrimp where jumbo with lot of fresh vegetables & sauce. Same goes with the Chicken dish. The Steamed dumplings were spot on delicious! The ambiance is real simple but we come for pick up. They had a unique twist that I can't identify, but my tastebuds enjoyed. The gravy for the egg fu young was very, very thick - and I didn't care for that, but the taste was good, so i used it sparingly. The egg drop soup had basically no taste, and was quite congealed, so that's a no from me. The egg roll was small and not very tasty- i love egg rolls, but didn't even finish it. This used to be my go to for Chinese, but I leave severely disappointed and will never return. Ordered lunch special vegetable lo mein and vegetable fried rice. The noodles in the lo mein were tasteless and wet (like spaghetti noodle straight out of the pot). There didn't seem to be any sauce or seasoning to speak of. The rice was way over cooked and terrible. The worst part for me was that I specifically ordered vegetable only, and I found a large piece of boiled chicken after my first few bites! I specifically told the cashier taking my phone order to have everything vegetable based and no meat as I am vegetarian! Avoid this place at all costs! They messed up my order so badly and then yelled at ME for complaining. Door dash had contacted us. They said our food wasn't ready on time. We had to wait an extra 45 minutes. When it came, I was missing some items. I was calm and collected at first but the "man" on the phone said the Door Dash person ate my food. And continues to yell at me! I'll admit I lost my cool. Tried to explain I was missing an entire meal. He kept yelling at me. Even if they did eat my food.
