Walked in and ordered Beef and Broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, crabmeat wontons and wonton soup. Waited 23 min and was very disappointed when I got home. The krab Rangoon was totally different and had hardly any cream cheese and no Krab at all or Krab flavoring. They were flat pieces of fried Philo dough. The beef and broccoli had 4 small pieces of beef and a lot of broccoli . The flavor of the wonton soup didn't take right either. This place has changed their food supplier or changed owners. The great reviews I read must come from people not familiar with authentic Chinese food. I've been exposed to two excellent Chinese restaurants over the years, one shut down years ago and more recently one stopped delivering food. So I thought I'd give China City a try. The egg rolls were mostly dough except one of them ( I ordered 2) had a strange tasting vegetable in it. That one I pitched. The Pork fried rice was substandard.. yellow rice with a bit of veggies and minute amounts of pork. I'd have been embarrassed to sell it as pork fried rice. The krab rattoon appetizers were more fried dough than anything else which made it hard to taste the filling and the boneless ribs were unrecognizable. The flavor was OK, definitely not BBQ, although on the menu it just said boneless ribs- The bone in ribs were BBQ so I guess I expected the boneless ribs would be the same. In comparison to the other Chinese Restaurants I have enjoyed, there is no comparison. I don't recommend this Chinese food. read more

When I lived in North Fort Myers, I was so disappointed in the choices of restaurants in Fort Myers and Cape Coral areas as well. One day while In Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area I was turning around in the parking lot and saw the name of this restaurant. China City is hands down the absolute best we've found! At least once a week, I was making the drive from NFM to China City and introduced others from NFM and south Punta Gorda to this location as well, who also have also grown to really like it. :-) The very best Sweet & Sour Shrimp, (husband likes S&S Chix too) **BEST Sweet and Sour Sauce** General Tso and Pork Fried Rice. Egg rolls are really tasty too. Generous portions. Better yet, they deliver locally. I've recently moved north of the restaurant now and still can not find a better Chinese Restaurant. Chinese offerings in this part of Florida are pretty awful. This place is better than most in this area. It's standard fare, take out only for now. Order the Hot and Sour soup. While it doesn't have the wood ear mushrooms or the exotic Chinese vegetables, it actually tastes like Hot and Sour soup should. My regular order is Beef with Mushrooms and Hot and Sour soup. If you like pork fried rice that's close to white and full of peas and carrots. You will like this place. So we have been living in Punta Gorda for exactly one week. After a long week of unpacking and being an adult in general, I just really wasn't in the mood to cook or drive - so hit up Yelp to see who delivered in the area. Came across China City, reviews were hit or miss but the good reviews were really good so figured we would give it a go. Called them up took about 15 minutes to get through, as the line was ringing busy. Eventually someone picked up and took our order, the lady on the phone had to put her son on the phone as she couldn't understand the spelling of our street name, but we eventually got it figured out. Now the wait began, we placed our order about 9pm expecting food to arrive in 30-45 minutes. At 10:20 we started to worry. Did they take food to wrong house? Did they just disregard our order all together? At this point everything else was about to close so we would be screwed if this food didn't show up. I called back and my concerns were put to ease as the woman told me the food is on the way. Food showed up about 10 minutes later so we were good to go. My wife got General Tso's chicken and I got an order of House Special Fried Rice. They did not provide any cutlery so we ended up having to use dishes anyways. My fried rice was good, not the best I've ever had but far from being the worse. Food quality was good enough for us to order again. I would definitely recommend picking the food up to expedite your experience, however they do deliver until closing time if you find your self in a lazy haze like myself. read more

Just received a delivery and for first time in 30yrs. it was screwed up, I ordered the same as always a Combo plate, and look forward to the pork fried rice only to have received, boring bland white rice!! Ug! and my instructions were not followed at all, when ordering a lg. soup, I asked for an extra bag of crunchy noodles for on the soup in other words 2, I got 1. the egg rolls were practically dripping with oil had to wrap in a white paper napkin and gently squeeze out some of the oil. We ate what we could and it was enough but, I phoned to alert them of this and the guy on the phone was not very cordial, so after 30 yrs. I guess it's time to scratch them off our list. Also I said to deliver to the side door, top of driveway, set on table we provided, and ring doorbell... and so he came up to our front door which we do not use, we had to open and tell him to come around to the side door. I have been picked up Chinese food at China City on a number of occasions. Overall, the food was probably worthy of three stars, which for a Charlotte County Chinese takeout is pretty good. When I order food to take out and pick it up, I never leave a gratuity, figuring I'm not getting service so why tip for service. On the most recent occasion when I checked my credit card account I found that China City of their own volition added a $5 gratuity to the $19.90 charge. Our Port CHARLOTTE area is not known for good Chinese food (or pizza for that matter). As a matter of fact, we stopped getting Chinese because it was just that bad. A friend of mine from up north raved about China City and since we haven't had Chinese in over a year, we ordered. We got egg rolls, crab rangoon, shrimp low-mien and beef and peppers. On the plus side the crab Rangoon was the best I ever had! The egg rolls are terrible, very greasy and just taste bad. The two meals were just ok. To sum it up, for Port CHARLOTTE, this is an ok review! It wasn't the best nor worst that I've ever had. In no way can I agree with anyone that says they knocked it out of the park. They are either folks that have been here all their life or never traveled around sampling Chinese from different places or, they are related to owners, etc. This is the best Chinese food in the area, no doubt!! Today I called (and he wasn't the nicest) and ordered a combination platter of the chicken lo mien and comes with an egg roll and port fried rice (which I was most excited about). I live maybe 10-15 away from this location and it took 45 mins for delivery, I said you know what that's fine I just can't wait to eat. I get my boyfriend and i's meal and his is great and on mine they gave me basically just noodles and orange chicken and 2 pieces of broccoli. My husband and I had a craving for Chinese food and decided to try China City after reading some of the Yelp reviews. While we found the food edible I would not order from them again for the following reasons. First, we had a hard time understanding the person we ordered from and wound up with way to much food. We have at least 3 more meals of this food and that is way to much. Second we ordered chicken chow mien and it was way too many veggies (mostly onions and cabbage with a little bit of celery) to the chicken. It comes with rice but I prefer noodles and there were just two really small bags of noodles. I will be picking up more noodles at Publix to finish the rest of the food. Third, the fried rice was mediocre at best. The best part of the meal were the egg rolls. I appreciated that they delivered, but it did take an hour, which they told me it would, but again, after tasting the food I would definitely not wait an hour for it. read more
