I ordered two lunches online through their website. First, I was charged a convenience fee for ordering online. Second, when I got back to work I noticed they hadn't given me my egg rolls and drinks. My wife had to drive all the way back to get them. The clerk told my wife lunches do not come with egg roll. Their menu states lunches come with rice and egg roll. We have tried many Chinese take out restaurants and by far this is the best. One test of a good restaurant is a simple egg roll. If it is crispy and not soggy and greasy then you know they do s as good job. If you ask for something special and they accommodate then that's even better. I love the orange chicken. It is always crispy even in the slightly spicy sauce. The fried rice is very good. Only mishap is they forgot the sweet and sour sauce 2x so now I remind them. Wow! This Chinese has got to be among the best I've tasted since leaving the NYC Chinese food I'm use to five years ago. Came in here after yelping for a good Chinese takeout spot in the area. The pics of the fried rice is what made me choose this place. It had no peas and carrots, exactly how fried rice should be with a dark hue from the soy sauce. It didn't disappoint. The two girls in front were very attentive and friendly. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch portion. Beef was tender with onions and green onions along some crisp tender green peppers. It was well balanced and the beef was super tender. The cooks are Hispanic and you can tell they take pride in the chefs recipes which came through in the food. Also, the egg roll that came with it was super crispy, fresh and nicely stuffed. Love knowing this spot serves such good Chinese takeout in P.C. I ordered the beef with broccoli with vegetable fried rice and my fiancé ordered the General Tso's chicken with pork fried rice. The beef was nice and tender and the broccoli was just right. The pork fried rice was definitely the winner over the vegetable fried rice. It had a lot more flavor. We also received two egg rolls with our meals and those were delicious. Copious and fairly priced amount that tasted fairly well and wasn't loaded down with salt or MSG. Good job. I approve. They don't deliver, so sad face to that. They have two tiny tables in the storefront, but they are more appropriate for waiting than dining. I suggest you take it to go. I really wish I would have taken a picture but we've now eaten at all. We ordered takeout delivered by GrubHub and it arrived steaming, piping hot and absolutely delicious. It's one of the freshest Chinese foods I've had in a while. I ordered the mixed vegetables with tofu and I asked for very, very light sauce and they followed the directions. My better half ordered the shrimp egg foo young and it was a humongous portion, totally delicious. In addition we ordered spring rolls, fried noodles and fried rice, each were delicious. We just had our first take-out from China Wok. Here's the good, bad and ugly. This is a take-out restaurant with a couple of tables to wait at or eat lunch at. Pu Pu for two... Spareribs excellent, chicken wings breaded, crab fingers fake crab, shrimp toast a bit greasy and bland, teriyaki beef OK, egg rolls as close to the good ones as I have had in Florida, fried won tons crunchy but not filled. Overall, C+ General Tsao's Chicken: Slightly below average in New England, pretty good for Florida. If you like broccoli, there wasn't much there and it was soggy. Overall C Pork Egg Foo Young: Big patties with gravy in a separate container. Not exactly what I'm used to, but pretty tasty. B+ Hot and sour soup, not spicy or sour enough, but absolutely loaded with mushrooms, tofu and a few other things. Very thin. C+ Other stuff: A container of red, sticky, sweet and sour sauce that I would expect to find on sweet and sour chicken. Good fried won ton chips. Standard white rice. Pre-packaged fortune cookies. Quantities of all were good. Counter service was OK and the cooking was speedy. Prices were reasonable. This place is better than the five others I have tried since I moved here two years ago, but a bit below average when compared with any of the offerings in my New Hampshire home town, and sadly lacking when compared to the Boston area restaurants I have frequented. We recently relocated to North Port and are in the search for a new favorite Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, this is not it. We ordered 2 dinner combos (the general tso's chicken and sesame chicken), pork fried rice, hot and sour soup, steamed dumplings, and krab rangoons. Portions were ok, but the chicken in both of our meals was WAY overcooked. It actually cut the roof of our mouths. Like when you leave chicken in the fryer for 10 minutes too long and even the meat gets dried out and chewy. Sauce flavor was ok but nothing to write home about. The hot and sour soup had almost no flavor - it was not hot or sour, although it was chock full of vegetables. The fried rice is made with yellow rice, so obviously this is not authentically Chinese, and its flavor was also lackluster. The rangoons were alright, but you could have fooled me that there was any krab in them. The steamed dumplings were actually very good, as was the dumpling sauce, but that's the only positive review we have, and what saved this from being a one star rating. We happened to be in the Port Charlotte area when we first tried it and we appreciated it well enough to go out of our way for it the second time. Extensive menu, nicely priced lunch specials and dinner combo plates, decent size portions that are prepared well, nice range of flavors, even a couple of nice touches such as lightly steamed veggies thrown in with some entrees. Our meals stayed piping hot all the way home, about 12 miles away. Though our takeout orders didn't allow for much contact with the staff, what contact we did have over the phone and in person was polite and efficient. The food was good, the service was horrible. The girl working at the counter was not friendly at all. I ordered the pepper steak combo, soup, and a Pepsi. She brought me my egg roll first with out a plate and it was so hot I burned my mouth and made a mess all over the table, then about 5 minutes later she brought me my pepper steak, no soup yet. I always eat my soup first so I waited, about 5 minutes later I got tired of waiting for my soup so I started eating, about half way through my pepper steak she brings my soup, I wound up getting a lid for my soup to take home. I just went back to China Wok for lunch after not having been there for several years. For a vegetarian, there isn't a whole lot to choose from here - the only veggie lunch special dish is Mixed Vegetables. Further questioning revealed that both of China Wok's standard sauces - the brown sauce and the white sauce - are pre-made containing chicken stock, so technically, the Mixed Vegetables ordered as-is are NOT vegetarian. When I asked them if they could just stir-fry me up some veggies with soy sauce, they said no. However, they will give you plain steamed vegetables with no sauce, and white rice instead of the standard BBQ pork fried rice. You can also get a soda in place of the non-vegetarian egg roll for the lunch special to make it a vegetarian/vegan meal. So that said, you ARE able to get a vegetarian/vegan lunch at China Wok, if you are careful. The mixed vegetable selection is decent - lots of broccoli, carrots, pea pods, fresh mushrooms, water chestnuts, baby corn, and some Chinese cabbage - and the quality of the vegetables is very good, well above average. However, the fact remains that it is still a plate of plain steamed vegetables with white rice, to which you can add soy sauce packets for flavor. I can't give it 4 stars based on that. However, my mom enjoyed her Chicken with Pea Pods (with white sauce) very much, and I've heard very good reviews from other friends who say it's the best Chinese food in town. I'd give it a weighted 3.5 if I could, but that's not a Yelp option. :) I have not tried any of their "Vegetable" (note it doesn't say "Vegetarian"!) dishes on the dinner menu, but assuming they use the same pre-made sauces for everything, I'm afraid one would probably end up with the same steamed ingredients with no sauce, provided you question them about the chicken broth. But, I do appreciate the fact that they at least told me the truth about the chicken broth in the sauce (some Chinese restaurants don't, figuring we will not be able to tell the difference). Also, if you are ordering to take home and plan ahead, you could make up your own sauce to pour over the dish, and I'll bet it'd be excellent. The price is hard to beat. I will definitely eat here again, just probably not very often, given the low number of vegetarian options. read more

Honey, They Shrunk the Dumplings It has been a few years since I stopped by to pick up some fried dumplings because the location isn't handy for me but it was a special treat to get their fried dumplings that were not greasy and lightly browned and tender and tasty - was then but now not so much. SERVICE: It was Saturday around 4pm and a couple was walking out with their pick up order as I entered. I ordered, I paid, then I waited. The cashier was not friendly and not rude, she just seemed tired. There was a phone in order and another pickup order while I waited and the cashier exercised patience while she explained why she wanted to make sure that the caller knew where they were located then listened to the friendly banter from the fellow who did not know what was ordered but was sent to pickup and payup by others. FOOD: My order was ready so off I went and as I set it down in the car, it seemed that the round pan was smaller than usual(i would get fried dumplings in another county delivered at work). Reaching my destination, open up container and the dumplings are smaller then I remembered and crustier on one side and chewier and had a tasteless wad of filling. There were 2 containers of dipping sauce instead of one which is weird since there is less to be dipped. The dipping sauce was smokey sweet and good but the rest was not. The smaller sized dumplings could be an effort to keep prices down but the cooking was careless. Turns out that there was a change of ownership in 2012 per www.myfloridalicense.com (this is where you can see health inspection summaries). One last note for those who are sensitive, they DO use MSG as seen on the menu that I picked up and uploaded (i wonder if the September inspection prompted the corrections on their menus because it mentions no handle on msg dispenser). read more
