We ordered the shrimp vegetable delight - it was so bland as to be tasteless. The crispy duck was chopped up so that it was impossible to separate what little meat there was from the bone. It too was tasteless. I ordered one steamed rice and was charged for two. The only good thing I can say about my dining experience was that the tea was excellent. Oh and we got a fortune cookie. Have been there four times and the service is bad each time. Ordered their special Chow Mein to go which comes with several meats and found when I got home it contained no meat. When I told them about this the next time I went to order take out, they looked at me like I was from Mars. On another occasion my drink never came until the dinner was nearly over and when I asked for it they snapped back and said it was coming.The last time I was there I asked about the Gyoza and the waiter said " you don't want to order that it takes too long" The only reason I have gone is because they seem to be very clean which means the food is prepared in a clean manner. Eggs Rolls very good, rice very dry, don't bother ordering. Shrimp very soggy. Chow Mein to go is a large portion. read more

Ordered a vegetable garden with curry sauce from their lunch menu, did NOT taste like curry at all. It taste like water with yellow coloring. This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever met after I got here in California. The story was: It was really late that night. When we had no place to choose from and we felt lucky( while actually really unfortunately) that we finally had one where we could enjoy a meal, then we were informed that we couldn't eat in and it was raining so we weren't so as pleased. But it was okay cause we had a car and our hotel was not far away from the restaurant. What made us feel really disgusting was when we finally took our food back and we opened it with full expectation, we saw the beef we ordered was filled with nothing but green onion and fried chips. It was so not decent and even a little bit mean and cheating to have so little beef. Worse still, the beef tastes like the cook accidentally dropped the sugar jar into the cooking pot. Although we were already told that the chef had gone home and she was not the main cook, this could not be the excuse for making such a dishonest act. Btw, a bowl of 16 ounce rice cost 2 dollars? Charges for soft-drink refill? All these, without a doubt, reflect the fact that this restaurant provides nothing but unpleasant services. We had a self-driving travel from LA to Seattle. None of them made us feel this bad! I really hope that this phenomenon is no longer exist especially in tourist areas. And I'd really appreciate it if the manager of this restaurant takes these negative comments seriously and promotes them from within and generates a benign commercial competition, not just take us consumers as sacrifices! read more

I've only ever ordered takeout a couple of times. And so far so good. I've had their shrimp chowmein which was a pretty big portion and was good although it could use a bit more flavor. The second time I ordered the lunch special, kung pao shrimp. The lunch special came with the kung pao shrimp, egg roll, a side of rice, and some type of chicken salad for $11 and some change which I think is a pretty good deal. Everything was sooo good although I could've done without the chicken on the salad cuz it just tasted a bit blah. As far as the service goes it just depends on the server I guess. The first time I went there the lady was not friendly or nice but not rude either. This second time, I didn't pay attention if it was the same server but she was nice, friendly, informative, and she seemed very happy to take my order which I very much appreciated. The place is also, very clean, so pretty and cozy. I plan on introducing my bf to this place on our next date night. read more

We had the Mandarin dinner special. The hot and sour soup was excellent, then the paper wrapped chicken and egg roll were tasty too. For entrees we received Kung pao chicken and Mongolian beef. Quite surprised today with their tasty goodness. Their wonton soup hit the spot and my sister and I cleared the whole bowl. Obvi. I asked for chili sauce as I like making my soup red. I love spicy food (and live a spicy lifestyle). Although we ordered a small it was still pretty big. We go tour favorite dish that most Chinese restaurants serve, Hong Kong Style Chowmein. It was a bit salty but packed with a lot of fresh veggies (broccoli, Chinese cabbage, carrots, straw mushrooms, buttom mushrooms, bean sprouts, baby corn and zucchini) as for the meat medium/large sized shrimp, chicken and bbq pork. Then we wanted to try a lunch special for about $& you can choose from a list of 20 lunch specials (weekend okay) that come with plain firne rice, choice of sweet 'n sour soup or chicken salad (although not on the menu, still deelish) and eggroll. Great deal! The new restaurant interior reminds me of a hotel banquet room but not as big. It does have a clean new feel to it which is nice. When we first arrived there was just one lovely lady who was working on her own. Then it got a little busy and another lady popped out from the back to help. Carmel turns into a ghost town after 10pm. There are very few places to go to get a late dinner. This place was what saved us when our dinner reservations at another place went all wrong. We were starving as we got here around 9:45pm and were relieved when, with a huge smile and welcome, this wonderfully friendly place sat us. Our waitress was extremely nice and made us feel right at home. We ordered the asparagus beef, shrimp with mixed veggies, sesame chicken, and chow fun noodles. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. First off, their menu has a wide selection of dishes, spanning all the red meats as well as chicken, seafood and even duck. The portions are generous, even for a chinese restaurant. I have been here probably over 50 times, and have never left dissatisfied or hungry. The service is very good. Granted the people do know me, but I am always seated immediately and any soup, egg rolls, or other appetizers come in a timely manner. The staff is very friendly and courteous, but aren't very good about refilling drinks. In fact, drinks will come in small cups with a lot of ice meaning that they will frequently need refills. However, this is really the only complaint i have about the restaurant. The prices here are comparable to any Chinese restaurant, so the food is well worth the price. read more

I am still really upset about the service at this restaurant. We live in the Bay Area, and went to Carmel to enjoy what the city has to offer. We decided to try this place because it was close to our hotel and my kids were starving. The food was not bad. Nothing extraordinary, but decent food which is why I gave a 2 star review. The service was awful!! If I could rate service alone, I would give it a -3 star!! The lady was so rude to us. I even dare to say she was racist, because there were other customers she kept coming to and checking on except me and my family. Maybe because we had kids, I don't know, but she was really rude. We asked for water and she gave us half-full glasses. My husband asked for more water, and even though all the glasses were empty she only poured one more half on his glass. We asked for additional napkins, as kids can use many, and she brought us one... ONE!!! She kept coming to check on other's food and how it was, she only served us and never checked again.The worst was when the check came. I was looking at my total and was higher than expected. Even though we were five, she put a party of six on the check and autocalculated the tip to 20%..... shady as hell!!! I knew I should of said something for such a shady thing, but I believe in karma, and it will come hunt her down without me having to do anything. I paid the bill and left. This place is terrible, haven't been in years but with the rainy weather yesterday and limited options in crossroads Chinese sounded good so we thought we'd give it another shot, well its still terrible. Food is extremely bland and not hot enough. I had the Kung pao shrimp which consisted of mostly vegetables no shrimp. It comes with fried rice that is more like steamed rice with maybe a diced veggies in it but not nearly enough. The waitress was nice but just can't give it more then 1 star they need to get new chefs. No idea how this place has lasted so long. This is a well-run business with decent Chinese food. The house special rice noodles (chow fun) are very good, with decent amounts of meat and seafood. However, we found Buddha's delight to be fairly bland, and nothing special. The garlic eggplant was prepared differently than we've ever had, with tomatoes in it. It made for a strange flavoring that we were not really looking for.
