The flavor of the general tso sauce was sweet but good, and the batter was inconsistently crispy and mushy depending on the piece. Reminded me of buffet fare. We also got the chicken lo mein which was also mid. It was fine, had better, had worse. Overall, I liked what I had for the deal I got on it via redacted delivery service. I paid $40 with tipping the delivery driver and fees. It would've been $50 without the deal, which would've left me less pleased. I would have them again but perhaps in better weather to pick it up myself. I would go with a spread of appetizers next time!

Everything was well prepared, but the standout was how the restaurant balances more "American Chinese" flavors while also staying true to some more traditional chinese flavors as well. The chili-forward dishes had plenty of heat without overpowering the other flavors, and each dish had its own distinct character. The ox tongue and tripe appetizer and the intestine dishes were great options if you're looking to try something a little more traditional. The portions were generous, making it a great place to order several dishes and share with the table. If you're used to American Chinese food, this menu offers a chance to branch out and try something different while still having plenty of familiar options available. If there is a dish I would not order again, it would probably be the soup dumplings. They tasted just like the store bought frozen variety that you can steam at home. I have had this dish at Jade Garden and China House, and both were very tasty! The baby corn is,in fact, regular corn that is picked while the corn is still immature, and has not yet developed the sweet corn taste most folks love - in fact, it has no flavor. It is loaded into stir fry dishes in Chinese American restaurants to make the dish seem larger. While it is used in China, it is not a staple. Most such corn is used in Thai, Indo-Chinese, or Chinese American dishes, mainly stir-fries. Most of the world supply comes from Thailand, and it is either canned or frozen, rarely if ever is it fresh. The Egg Drop Soup was very under seasoned, and the Spring Rolls needed a good amount of hot mustard. I may try some other items here, but certainly not these two!

Very disappointing experience…read more Our son has special needs and a very limited diet. The last time we were here, we were told something regarding bringing food for him, so this time I called ahead before coming to ask if we could bring his French fries in that he would eat. I specifically called because I wanted to respect the restaurant and avoid any issues. I explained the situation to the manager. I was told they have a kids menu, but none of the options on the kids menu are foods our son will eat because of his extremely limited diet. I explained that and asked if we could simply bring food that he can eat. The answer was still no. We weren't trying to get around the rules or avoid purchasing a meal. We called ahead, explained the situation, and asked for a simple accommodation so our son could sit with his family and eat. What was most disappointing was the lack of understanding or willingness to work with us. Saying "we have a kids menu" doesn't solve the problem when a child with special needs cannot eat any of those options. We made every effort to handle this respectfully. Unfortunately, that same consideration was not extended to our family. We will not be returning.

Didn't get the chance to taste any of my wife's food but she was happy with it. Their food is always prepared very well anyways, so it was no surprise. It is a very small place. There are no sitdown tables. It's mostly all kitchen and a front counter to either take your order or pay for same. There is a bottled beverage machine in the lobby area to pick up something to drink. The China House is nestled into a small shopping center off of Jonestown Road. If you live in the area it is very convenient and they're open on Mondays. There's one other place called China wok close by as well but it is not open on Monday so China House is my go to when that happens and I'm craving my Asian food. Both places serve yummy food. This evening it was close to their closing time at 10pm and I placed an order around 20 minutes before closing and they reminded me they were closing at 10pm and so I hopped in the car after ordering and got there 10 minutes before closing and the person at the counter told me they would've stayed open even if I hadn't gotten there quite in time to accommodate me which I really appreciated! They are happy to help their customers. The man at the counter was so nice with a great big smile on his face and it brightened up my evening! They had my order ready when I got there and asked me if I wanted sauces with it, threw a bunch of sauces in my bag and I was on my way! Quick and easy! I highly recommend this place as our food is always good but it's not a dine in place it's takeout only. You can pick up a takeout menu if you're stopping by or going in to pick up your next meal.

All of these are dishes I had before, at least once, most more often. Only the Shrimp with Lo Mein was above average, none of the other dishes rose to the level of quality I'd received here before, in fact all were very ordinary. And the Fried Rice which was loaded with cubes of pork, had little to none. I hate this has happened because I do very much enjoy certain Chinese American dishes. We ordered crab rangoon, steamed dumplings, the beef with broccoli combo with white rice (also comes with an egg roll) and the chicken with mixed vegetables combo with white rice (and the egg roll). The crab rangoon was probably the best dish out of everything we ordered and some of the best we've had here in Winston Salem. The steamed dumplings were okay and would probably be better if they were eaten as soon as we picked them up and not after a 10 minute drive. Both entrees were good, however my husband prefers the beef with broccoli at our normal Chinese takeout place. The egg rolls were basic and glad they were part of the entree as it wouldn't be something we would order separately. Their pork fried rice is incredible! They don't skimp on portions at all. They use large chunks of pork in the rice, so you can actually taste it, and it's so good. The General Tso's chicken is spiced to perfection. My absolute FAVORITE though, is the teriyaki chicken skewers. I've never tasted anything so wonderful in my life. I could go there and only eat those and be more than happy. Egg rolls are always on point too. I always eat too much because it's so yummy, but it never makes me feel awful afterwards like some takeout does. The only thing I've tried that I didn't love was the chicken wings. Overall I just can't rave enough about this place!
