When you eat in restaurants as often as I do, you will have some bad meals, and the one I had here was one of the very worst I've ever encountered. I've had take out from here several times, and until very recently the food was decent. I'd had the Black Pepper Chicken several times, and it was a dish that I liked, and this is a dish I order whenever I can find it in a menu - it is a bit rare. But things have certainly changed - definitely in the kitchen, maybe in ownership as well. The last three dishes I've tried here - Mongolian Beef, Crispy Beef, and Black Pepper Chicken on this visit - were smothered in shiny, sweet brown sauce, and there were far too many superfluous vegetables. By far the best Chinese food I have ever had in my entire life. I don't say that lightly!! We drive half an hour one way to get food here because nothing else can compare anymore. Their pork fried rice is incredible! They don't skimp on portions at all. They use large chunks of pork in the rice, so you can actually taste it, and it's so good. The General Tso's chicken is spiced to perfection. My absolute FAVORITE though, is the teriyaki chicken skewers. I've never tasted anything so wonderful in my life. I could go there and only eat those and be more than happy. Egg rolls are always on point too. I always eat too much because it's so yummy, but it never makes me feel awful afterwards like some takeout does. The only thing I've tried that I didn't love was the chicken wings. Ordered through DoorDash , went to pick it up and was given the wrong order. When I went back to have it fixed, they were SO rude that we didn't return the last order. Over the phone they apologized for the mix up stating they were busy. When we arrived, they tried blaming us. This was right before they closed and we had already discarded the other order. She woman argued with us for 5 minutes before handing me my lukewarm food that I had already paid for. I got home , this was what our chicken looked like. We thought it was a piece of hair at first but apon further examination, the chicken wasn't plucked and had multiple feathers on it. Terrible experience, terrible service. read more

Their Hot and Sour Soup and Egg Drop Soup is some of the best I've had since I lived in New York. Every dinner course I have ordered has exceeded my expectations. Pleasantly surprised by this place! We were looking for somewhere to get good moo shu pork since our typical place removed it from their menu. The moo shu pork was really good flavor wise but definitely different than I'm used to. The pieces of veggies and protein were larger than usual and there were veggies like the baby corn in there that I don't typically see. Not a bad thing, just different. Also I think there was a mix up, they asked if we wanted rice or the pancakes and we ended up with both but the pancakes were in the package they were purchased in. It made for a good laugh and plenty for leftovers. My husband got the scallion chicken combo with pork fried rice and it was really good! We were so surprised by how much pork was in the fried rice and the chicken was cooked perfectly. We also both had an egg roll and while on the smaller side they were really good. Ok, it's a little bit of a dive atmosphere in there. There are only a few seats and the interior doesn't have much going. Actually, the whole building doesn't have much. But, the food makes up for it and then some! It's very convenient for take out in Clemmons. They used to have delivery that we loved, but that didn't seem to be an option last week. Hopefully the delivery comes back because they handled it well. You'd get a text shortly after ordering and the food was on the porch! The portions are huge. Your meal is two meals. The sides are so great you order them even if you know you don't need more food! On this order we did egg roles and wontons. They're so generous with the sauce packets even we couldn't use them all. We've had so much luck with the noodles that we order them every time snd we've gone through a few of the traditional Chinese take out chicken options and they're always delicious. This review is late...probably 5 months late. In the beginning, this place would deliver. We always gave a generous tip. That was four to five years ago. They no longer deliver and have poor online ordering. The restaurant has 'changed hands' at least twice since we moved to Clemmons. Or possibly changed management...really who cares as long as the food quality and customer service stays high. Unfortunately neither has been maintained. We decided to online order and do a self pick up. The order was not ready. The lady at the front was unaware of our order. She disappeared and returned a few minutes later with the food. Well, it was horrible. We threw most of it away. The spring rolls were egg rolls. The chow mein was goopy and without flavor. The house fried rice was empty of the multiple proteins. Very grand disappointment. So sad. Will not be returning. read more

For take out Chinese Number 1 China is by far my favorite in the area. Where I live in Winston-Salem it is just a quick ten minute drive. I am a big fan of their Sesame Chicken, they use big chunks of all white meat. The spare ribs were good as well as the dumplings. I happen to like vegetable chow mein. I ordered it a while back and it was VERY HEAVY on broccoli STALKS. I brought it back the next day and they made a new one with good vegys and full pieces of broccoli- it was delish. I've ordered it several times now and it's always good. We had unexpected company last night and we ordered several dishes including vegetable chow mein. It was 90% ONIONS. No one ate it. I brought it back today and they made a new order. For takeout Chinese, you can't beat Number 1 China in Clemmons. In several orders, everything has come out fresh, flavorful, and neatly packed (side note: these takeout containers are awesome reusable bowls). My favorites are the scallion chicken, hot and spicy beef, Singapore Mei fun, lo mein, and General Tso's. You can get them to spice up meals if you like spicier food, and they're more than generous with their sauces...in fact, they're generous with everything. Portions are huge! We ordered the Beef and Broccoli and also Shrimp and Broccoli. The food had absolutely no taste and the Beef had loads of fat and strings of tough fat. It seems under new management it did the trick!! The hot and sour soup was outstanding!!! Finally a decent one in town. The beef teriyaki was a hair dry but the flavor was good. I would have liked a bit more sauce but compared to before I simply can not tell you how much better the food is. We had broccoli and tofu with bean curd that was fresh and full of tofu! My wife and I came here several years ago and was not impressed at all. We would go into Winston instead. Several weeks ago we saw they had a banner that said under new management. We decided to give it a try. Oh my gosh it was so much better then it was years ago. I got BBQ Spare Ribs, and my wife got the Spicey Honey Chicken. My spare ribs were not your typical spare rib cut, this was more like a country style rib cut down. The sauce was awesome hoisin sauce. It wasn't overly sweet and had a ton of flavor. The fried rice had some carrots onion and egg, no pork. The Spicy Honey was good but it wasn't spicy. My wife loves rip your head of hot, me not so much. This had some flavor but was wasn't spicy. It had lots of mix veggies. The egg roll wasn't a cabbage log, and was very good. So glad we tried it, most definitely want to go back. When I received a flyer in the mail saying Number 1 China was under new management, I figured I would give them a shot. All the other places for chinese food around Advance are painfully mediocre. We ordered the boneless spare ribs, teriyaki chicken, and egg drop soup. The teriyaki chicken was very good. Solid 6.5/10. Far, far better than other local spots. Tad chewy, but that's to be expected with Teriyaki chicken. Terrific flavor. The egg drop soup was thick and comforting. SO GOOD! Best egg drop soup in Advance hands down. Absolutely delicious. The fried rice that came with my combo was fairly average, not bad by any means, but nothing to blow me away. The egg rolls were shockingly good - I actually haven't had a good eggroll since I used to eat at Dynasty Buffet years ago before it closed. I'd give the eggrolls an 8/10 by themselves. However, the true champion was the boneless spare ribs. Without question the most delicious spare ribs i've ever eaten from a chinese restaurant. 10/10 for me. Utterly delicious. The sauce is immaculate with a mildly sweet, but smoky, almost barbecue flavor. The rib cuts are nice, big thick pieces of meat with minimal fat. Flavorful, filling and more "home" feeling than any other i've had. These ribs were made with love. The ONLY criticism i'd have for the food we ate is that it was a bit salty. I'd like to see the salt use come down a tad, but outside of that very small critique, I loved it. Will absolutely be ordering here again! read more

Tried a lot of different Chinese restaurants in the area I think that this is by far the best. I love the flavor of spicy dishes but I don't want them to be very hot this restaurant is very accommodating and making a dish like chicken with garlic sauce flavorful and not too hot. I think in Any restaurant it really matters what you order. They have one dish called Blackpepper chicken that is maybe my favorite. I would never have even tried it is someone at the restaurant had not recommended it and now I just love it. Another thing they have is which is kind of unique is Chinese donuts for dessert and they are way too good. I have never gotten ill from the food here. I was frankly surprised to see what other people have written. Try it you will like it, maybe skip the tofu. read more

Wouldn't deliver missing items, finally agreed if we came back 6 miles round trip) he would "give" us our food and refund part of our $50 to go order.
