The food is absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection with mesmerizing scents hitting you in the face. The chicken has a perfectly crisp to sauce ratio; not at all too dry and not soggy in the slightest. Fried rice was delicious! Everything was absolutely perfect. The service, was absolutely wonderful. Our server was extremely respectful, quick, informative and so kind. I enjoyed the ambiance as well, they were playing K-pop. However, I must admit I wasn't much of a fan of the Thai iced tea, it was a bit too dry for me if that makes any sense?? The chow mein tasted really black peppery, the garlic mushroom stir fry was battered and I wasn't expecting that. The fried rice was kind of flavorless, and the hot and sour soup was not my thing. The cost and lack of hospitality, in addition to inconsistant food quality, have resulted in this decision. $83 for two orders of vegetable egg rolls, an order of pork fried rice, an order of of broccoli beef and an order of ma po tofu seems excessive. Tofu was very oily and bland, and the excessive amound of dried red hot chili did not impart any depth of flavor. I came in for a solo lunch and unfortunately had a disappointing experience from start to finish. The food was overly salty, and I asked for chopsticks but never received them. The service was minimal -- the server did a quick glance at the table to check for water but didn't ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything else. When it came time to pay, I noticed an extra charge of $3+ and some change and asked what it was for. The server told me it was the tip, but nowhere on the receipt did it say "gratuity" or mention a percentage -- it just had the total. I had to ask directly to find out that an 18% gratuity had been added automatically, without my knowledge or consent. As a solo diner, this felt completely inappropriate and deceptive. I always tip, but that decision should be mine -- and it should be clearly communicated on the menu or receipt. Between the lackluster service, salty food, and hidden charges, I won't be coming back. This is the best chow fun that I've tried out of all the other Chinese restaurants in the area, the eggplant was ok but I'd be more interested in trying their other veggie dishes next time. Came initially for the Hong Kong pan fried seafood noodles which were great but I keep coming back for the salt and pepper (aka deep fried) tofu. Have been several times for lunch on weekdays when they have a generous lunch special (entree+soup +salad +fried rice +lo mein+egg roll). Our all time favorite! We moved from Livermore but when we visit we always stop by to satisfy our craving. Today was the day. We ordered a little bit of everything. The walnut shrimp is delightful. The broccoli beef's sauce is perfect. The steamed and fried rice is always fresh. My all time favorite is the chow mein! We also had the sweet and sour pork and chicken, and egg rolls, which never disappoints. In the past the won ton soup is our feel better when under the weather delight. They have a nice selection of wine and beer. Even the tea is a must have with your meal. It's always clean, they are so nice and they always get our to go order correct. Try the lunch specials and the rest of the regular menu is inviting to all tastes. I've ordered almost everything at one point or another and I think you should also. First off, the food had no flavor. It was the worst Chinese food we've had. The service was not good. They forgot to bring the drinks we ordered. On top of that, they charged us a gratuity fee of $12 for a party of 3, when that type of service fee should only be charged for a party of 6+, and The receipt still asked for a tip. So glad they are back from vacation!!! My family loves this restaurant especially my daughter. My daughter has been asking every week for the past 2 months to come here but had to tell her they were still on vacation every time. The lady that works here is super nice and even gave my daughter a hair clip/goodies she got from her trip to China. My daughter is special needs and loves Hot and Sour Soup. Some days during lunch it's a different soup they serve but the lady that works here always goes out of her way to make Hot & Sour Soup just for my daughter the way she likes it without all the vegetables. Lunch prices are very reasonable around $15. You get fried rice, chow mien, soup, salad and the entree you choose. We always get the same thing, Salt & Pepper Pork Chops, Salt & Pepper Calamari, Beef with Snow Peas, Roast Duck and Kung Pao Shrimp. All are very good!!! Love their chili oil, it's the best. I usually put it all over my chow mien and fried rice. This used to be a very good Chinese restaurant and I would come here every time we went cherry picking or shop at the outlets. I haven't been since the pandemic. Recently I came here for lunch and ordered 3 items. Green beans with chicken, crispy spicy fried chicken and eggplant plus steamed rice. After eating a few pieces of fried chicken I noticed that some tasted off or old. They combined it with some fresh pieces but I could tell it wasn't good. Secondly the rice was very bad quality. Hard, undercooked, separated, and not hot either. I feel like it wasn't made that day but rather many days old. I haven't had awful white rice like that ever! It ruined my lunch since it felt like hard granules. Rice is supposed to be hot and fluffy and if it's jasmine of good quality, fragrant. After the hugely disappointing lunch, I paid and went on my way. Days later after looking at my credit card transaction I immediately noticed that they added an additional $3 more to my bill. For the past year, China Garden has become my go-to Chinese restaurant in the Tri-Valley. Pre-pandemic, I use to go onsite for their lunch specials - the lunches are a strong value at around $10 and included an entrée, fried rice, chow mein, soup, salad, and spring rolls. The food is good, comes out fast, and the restaurant is clean. The wait staff is really nice too; for example, the times I've taken my Kindergarten-aged son for lunch, the primary waitress who's on the floor has been very playful towards him. These lunch specials are pretty standard fare for most Chinese restaurants that cater to American audiences. During the pandemic, I've been taking advantage of their delivery services for dinner. This worked out pretty well given it's given me a reason to try some of the other items on their menu that I probably wouldn't have considered because I of my penchant for lunch specials. My new standard items include Spicy Crispy Tofu, Mapo Tofu, Chicken and Corn soup, and the Combination Chow Mein. I'm especially pleased with their Mapo Tofu, which reminds me of my mom's cooking and hits just the right spice levels. Regarding deliveries, they're inexpensive at $2 within a certain radius (I think it's a little bit more if it's further out). The delivers are always the same two people - they are consistent with speedy deliveries, wearing masks, waiting 6+ feet away after ringing the doorbell to ensure that the food is collected, and generally just being pleasant. read more
