We decided on Gold Chopsticks, and we are SO GLAD that we did!! Oh...my...goodness! We ordered the Mandarin dinner special which started with some of the most outstanding wonton soup we've ever had! They followed that up with a small platter of appetizers which came with crab Rangoon, shrimp firecracker rolls, and vegetable egg rolls. Then our entrees arrived. My husband chose broccoli beef, which he said was the best he'd ever had, and I tried something new (to me) and ordered the cashew chicken, both of which were DELICIOUS!! The waitstaff were incredibly kind and attentive, very friendly as well. I have never had an experience like this at any restaurant. My wife and I walked into a very dimly lit place with no one inside. My wife was hesitant because she had a bad feeling, but we decided to stay since we were already there. We ordered chow mein with extra vegetables and shrimp, along with two drinks. About 15 minutes later, the food came out, but our drinks still hadn't arrived--even though we were the only customers there. I had to flag someone down to get our drinks. Just a few minutes into eating, my wife found HAIR in her food. At that point, we both completely lost our appetite. The plate was still basically untouched. We informed the staff, and while they offered to remake the dish, we declined because we no longer wanted to eat. We asked for the check expecting to be charged only for the drinks, but instead they charged us $35 for the meal. When I tried to address this, the staff member responded in a very unprofessional and disrespectful manner. He even called us FAT COWS?! who says that??? I was definitely not going to pay after that rude comment. I have managed restaurants before, and situations like this should be handled by comping the food and prioritizing customer service. Unfortunately, this experience showed a complete lack of professionalism and basic hospitality. I would not recommend this place at all!! Don't let the reviews fool you! read more

What a terrific little spot! I can't believe I have not been here in the 15+ years that I've lived in the Tri-Valley. The Service is wonderful, went with a friend the owners know and they even remembered to bring out a piece of jewelry her daughter had left on the restroom sink some time ago when they'd been there! My friend is a pescatarian, so it was a little different from my usual ordering. We had the veggie mushu, shrimp fried rice and spicy green beans... all were delicious!!! I loved the old school Chinese restaurant vibe inside, reminded me of some of my favorites in the City. Wow. My last review 9 years ago and exact same experience. The garlic chicken was insanely SALTY. I didn't even remember my last experience or even had been here until I went to yelp. Came in for lunch solo. Ordered garlic chicken. Nice at first. Came out fast. Soup was delicious. Egg roll and rice delicious! The garlic chicken was so dang salty. I still can't get the salt off my lips. Rich in oyster sauce or hoisin. Just dumped all over. Long story short, ready to check out and she says how was everything and I said ehhh all was excellent but the chicken. Instantly became argumentative and rude! Can't believe I haven't reviewed this restaurant yet! I am telling you that they have the best chicken fried rice in the area! Omg you can literally order that and be satisfied. The chicken pieces in it are fried so it's definitely yummy and the rice is perfect consistency of jasmine rice and not salty. The pics I posted are mid meal since I was way too hungry and forgot to snap a pic! The crab Rangoon was pretty good as well. In other visits I have had their Mongolian beef and mandarin chicken. Both amazing. The staff are wonderful and attentive. You can tell they have been here long and have their regulars! The restaurant space is pretty spacious but I can see it getting packed on the weekends! I've ordered takeout from this restaurant several times, hoping the experience would improve. Unfortunately, it only got worse. The food is consistently far too salty--so much so that it's hard to enjoy. I even had to throw away the Kung Pao chicken once. Despite that, I kept giving them chances, even asking them to go easy on the salt. What finally pushed me to write this review was the unacceptable treatment I received during my most recent visit. They never include basic items like paper plates, utensils, or napkins unless I ask. On this visit, I politely requested paper plates and spoons. The male waiter asked how many, and I said for the first time, I said four. I usually asked for two. He started complaining that I only ordered food for two people and was asking for four plates. I explained it was for small children who didn't eat much. Then he told me, "You're always asking for things," and said I shouldn't come back. I was stunned. I reminded him I was a repeat customer, but he dismissed me, saying they have many customers and hadn't noticed me. I stood in shock as he walked away and spoke to a woman I believe is the manager or owner. She approached me, and instead of apologizing, she handed me two plates and coldly asked, "Anything else?" I tried to explain, but she repeated the same complaint. I asked how much the plates were, offering to pay for them, but she said she didn't know the cost and walked away, again telling me not to return. At that point, I told them I didn't want the food anymore and asked for a refund, which they processed. It felt like there was more behind their reaction than just my request for paper plates. Maybe it was because I'm a Black woman? I don't know. But being told not to return over something so minor made me feel singled out and unwelcome. Restaurants should be places of hospitality and respect. This one failed on both fronts. I won't be returning, and they made it clear they don't want me to. I hope others think twice before supporting a business that treats its customers this way. read more

Solid Chinese fare in Northeast Pleasanton. We had heard good things about this neighborhood restaurant and decided to give it a try. We ordered a couple of noodle dishes - Singapore Vermicelli with Chicken, and Hong Kong style crispy noodles with chicken - and a few family favorites: orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, and honey walnut prawns, to be enjoyed with white rice. Food was ready for pickup in 15 minutes, and the bill was a bit under $100. They threw in crispy wontons on the house (thank you!). Top dishes as voted by our family: 1. Sweet and Sour Pork - delicious, large portion, flavors were a hit all around. 2. Orange Chicken - appreciate them keeping the spice level low as requested, so the kids could also enjoy. 3. Honey Walnut Prawns - excellent, but small portion size, so will reserve for special occasions. The noodle dishes were polarizing. The Singapore noodles were well cooked but the spice ratio was a bit off the mark (too much turmeric), and the Hong Kong noodles were a bit too crispy (probably not a good takeout option). The restaurant was easy to find, and there were two reserved parking spaces right in front for takeout patrons, which we appreciated. Interior was tastefully decorated and clean. Service was prompt and friendly. All leftovers heated up nicely and could be enjoyed for a couple of days afterward. We will definitely return! read more

This place is for white people and Chinese people as the food seems to me a half-half mix between hardcore Chinese and bland white people chow. The Hot and Sour soup is good and they give you some homemade Sriracha sauce which is a bonus. The come in very small plastic cups but the boss lady gives two so it becomes a non issue. Chow Mein is solid. White rice (steamed) on the side is good and seemed better than Uncle Ben's which I have at home. They have football on tv so if you eat there, you are covered for entertainment. Lastly, the lady gave me four fortunate cookies and said that was a lucky number, so I got that going for me, which is nice. No photos because I was hungry and ate too fast. read more

I was at this restaurant last Monday (Presidents day) at 2:00 with a friend of mine. The waitress, who made it apparent she would have preferred to be any place but at work, came over and asked what we wanted for lunch. My favorite dishes so far have been General Tso's chicken, dry cooked string beans, and combination chow mein. Not only is the food delicious, the staff are friendly accommodating and so nice. My boyfriend and I try and go here once a month if possible and we've tried so many of their dishes. Sadly when we began to eat the Fried Rice we ordered, BIG AS LIFE, right in the middle of the second serving was a THIN PIECE OF METAL WIRE that was most likely part of a cooking utensil. The wire was about 1-2 INCHES LONG and would have choked anyone swallowing it and maybe killed them. I returned to the restaurant and when I showed it to the owner, I could tell that she instantly recognized where it came from.
