However, this recipe pace is amazing, full of flavor and I don't find myself bloated after the end of my family style meal! Everything tasted extremely fresh, none of that greasy stuff that you can usually expect when ordering most (read inexpensive) Chinese. Full breasts of chicken with light breading, none of those mystery pieces smothered in "house-made brown or special sauce; meaning it came from Sysco or somewhere lke that). My work scheduled a dinner here for all my coworkers and we had a lovely experience! We were able to pick out entrees ahead of time and served family style. We were served 3 appetizers as well. The staff was friendly, quick, and attentive to serving our large party. We also had 4 birthdays amongst our group, and they served four different desserts to each person. As one of the birthday people I got served a mango raspberry sherbet with a white chocolate shell. It was the best of all the desserts! The portions were huge and we had leftovers to take home. Excellent Chinese food in Livermore. Went back after a long time with family after watching "Annie" at the Bankhead Theater nearby. The ladies ordered colorful fruity drinks, and we ordered honey glazed calamari ($27) and crispy eggplant with hoisin ginger glaze ($21) as starters. The latter was a recommendation by our server, and he was spot on, as the eggplant was served piping hot and was superb. It was almost as good as the calamari (my favorite!). For our entrées we ordered tea-smoked duck ($33) with pancakes, BBQ Pork baby back ribs ($24), General Tso's chicken ($28), and Wagyu Chow Fun ($24) - these were all very good, but IMO the baby back ribs were a notch above the rest! Total bill was a little over $200 before tax and tip. Bathrooms were adequate. Deducted one star because they rushed us and cleared our plates before we were ready, even though there were plenty of tables and staff available. read more

Some friends and I came to celebrate a friend's recent achievement and it did not disappoint! Our food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the crispy eggplant and potstickers as an appetizer. Both were really good but that crispy eggplant is probably the best dish I've ever had, hands down! Sweet & sour sauce, crispy on the outside and soft & tender on the inside. It's the only way to eat eggplant! We also ordered Kung Po Chicken, dry sautéed green beans, pork fried rice with no egg because one of us had an egg allergy, and orange peel beef. All was delicious and tasted fresh and was brought out very quickly! Service was quick and gracious. Our server attended to all our requests and was very attentive! The overall feel of the restaurant was pleasant and we were seated in a nice big booth to accommodate the two babies that were part of our party. Really enjoyed our experience at Uncle Yu's! The Chow Mein is perfectly cooked and coated in the wonderful Chow Mein glaze, but cleaner. The Chicken was huge, thin sliced, white, perfectly cooked, juicy chicken. Vegetables cooked, but with snap, wonderful. And for the Chow Mein Noodles, soft, yet have that bite, then melt in your mouth! Our group had a reservation for 5 and were seated quickly. The inside is dark and moody, totally enjoyed the vibe. Our waiter was attentive and got our drinks and appetizers out quickly. He timed everything perfectly, and had our entrees come out after we enjoyed our apps. Our table ordered a dirty martini, spicy margarita and a lychee martini. The dirty martini was perfection, just the right amount of olive juice. The spicy margarita was well balanced and had just a hint of spice. The lychee martini was refreshing. For appetizers we ordered the potstickers, the crab meat cheese puffs and the specialty dumpling sampler. The potstickers were big and nicely filled, the crab and meat cheese puffs were their take on a crab Rangoon and the dumplings were sooo yummy. The only thing I wish is that there were some meat/veggie options as part of the dumpling sampler. Each dumpling contained some type of seafood and sadly one member of our party is allergic. For the mains we ordered the fried rice, chow mein, Mongolian beef, broccoli beef and a chicken dish. The meat dishes were flavorful and seasoned well. The wagyu steak was tender and soft just melts in your mouth. The chow mein was the star. The texture and flavor of the dish was spot on. I could have eaten the whole bowl myself. The miss of the night was the chicken fried rice. It was pretty bland and the prices of chicken had no seasoning. Overall we had a great dinner. Maybe I came on an off day, but the food didn't live up to the hype. Service and ambience were a 10/10. Staff was super friendly! And I mean genuinely friendly. From the hostesss to the servers, to the bar tenders, just outstanding service. And te place was spotless and beautiful with food came out quickly! However, that's just the trouble. The food. For me, it was quite bland, and just slightly below average. I asked for chili oil with my dish ( which I don't even remember as it was so bland) and even that couldn't breathe life into it. Is it the best Chinese in Livermore? Probably. Worth the hefty bill? Debatable. I can't deny that the food, service, and ambience is pretty darn nice, but it does come with a premium price tag. Great for special occasions, but you can arguably get food that's almost as good at plenty of other restaurants around town, even if they aren't quite as nice. I have been to other locations, this was the first time in Livermore. It is a very nice location, nice ambiance. Went with friends for an early dinner before an event we had to attend. We shared a few things, the honey walnut prawn salad, peking ribs, vegan fried rice and shrimp pad thai...all very delicious! My friends had never experienced Uncle Yu's and they were very happy with the food and experience. Our waitress was amazing, appreciate her very much. I came here for a special occasion on recommendation from a coworker. I think the story behind the food and the source make a lot of sense. But in the end I don't quite think it justified the price. Service was great and we got everything in a timely fashion. To me this was more of a place with a fantastic wine selection as the main draw. The food to me was upscaled PF Chang's. For Chinese food with a twist, the twist wasn't exciting or enchancing enough to be worth it personally. read more

Well we have had a negative take out experience and now a negative lunch experience. The ambiance is usually very good. We popped in for lunch and waited and waited for someone to seat us. We finally were seated. We waited and waited for service. Our waitress seemed like we were inconveniencing her. There were hardly any people there so we felt like the service would be good. Anyway, we ordered basic lunch specials. We were both very disappointed in the freshness and quality of our food. I'm sad because this was always a favorite family choice. All this for $100. A wine and beer and 2 lunch specials.... I'm done. I think it's time to drive to Pleasanton for a nice lunch. read more

First off the food was absolutely amazing! We stop by here whenever we can on our travels because there is nothing by else like it with such an epic wine list and incredible flavorful dishes. Also the staff is very kind and attentive. Second, I forgot my sunglasses in the bathroom and I thought I left them in the restaurant and the staff went above and beyond to help me find them. They were not found, as I concluded I think a guest took them from the bathroom in the 13 minutes I left them in there. Went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner and was not expecting the interior to have the aesthetic that it does. It had private room where it could accommodate 40 people and still had plenty of space. The service was great and the food. I'd come back here to try other items on the menu. Will update this review more when I've done that. read more

Came here on a solo lunch. Monday after 4th of July weekend 2025. Parked behind the restaurant in a 3 hr free spot. Lots of spots were reserved but this shouldn't be an issue in the future when the never ending parking structure construction is finally complete. The restaurant is large in the inside you can't even tell by driving or walking by as the signs are very bold. When I entered I was quite surprised as how elegant and how luxurious the decor and atmosphere was. Fullly stocked bar. It felt like a restaurant in downtown SF , not Livermore.Even though is was pretty dead there was a hostess ready to get you seated which is a good sign. I decided to sit in the mini courtyard outside because it wasn't too hot . Service was attentive with 3 different servers attending and delivery my meal. The luncheon comes with choice of steamed or brown rice, or chow mein . I chose half half so I taste both. And both were good. For my main I chose the Kung Pao combo which included Scallops+shrimps+beef all flavorful and fresh. The pictures I posted don't do it justice . The Szechuan sauce was on point maybe it was made in house I should have asked. The pork sour soup appetizer was very unique and was well portioned with pork pieces which were delicious. The location in downtown is perfect for the night on the town and totally walkable . Downtown Livermore is currently a work in progress but it is very pedestrian and family friendly which is super helpful and you feel very safe. I loved my time spent there and have found a great place I can recommend for a Chinese dine out as an either as a single diner, a group of friends or a family . The setting was pretty dynamic. They have a shared outside bathroom with other tenants but it was pretty outdated but who cares as long as the food is good. I had banned this restaurant three years ago. Man, things had improved so much that we are celebrating birthdays and visiting Uncle Yu at least once a month. The ambiance is nice, service great and the food is always well prepared. I have a sensitive stomach but never had any issue and I leave the restaurant wanting more! I'd get different desserts on the menu, more quality desserts to pair with the delicious food. I'm so glad I came back to visit this restaurant. My favorite Chinese now. We are from out of town and are moving our son into new place in Livermore. This is a can't miss must try. We went for lunch. We had dumplings, wagyu fried rice, wagyu chow fun and crab puffs (crab Rangoon). All were really tasty and authentic. They also make their own spicy mustard that is a great compliment to any meal. They have Livermore wine by the glass and other regions that went well with the meal. This is a must stop. Service was also very good and attentive with great suggestions. The vibe or ambiance feels like upscale but we saw people with jeans and shorts as well as those with full button down shirts. Our visit was during lunch on Thursday. Sometimes you want a white tablecloth experience. Uncle Yu's is my go-to place for high-end Chinese food. The food is aways consistent and delicious. I especially love their dumplings and seafood options on my most recent visit, my friend and I split the Crispy Eggplant, the Steamed Dim Sum Sampler, and the Szechuan Prawns. I really liked everything, but the prawns were my favorite by far. With plump wild prawns simmered in a tangy Szechuan sauce with diced onions and tomatoes, the dish had just the right amount of spice. The serving size was perfect. Service moves at your pace. Today was leisurely, but they can also accommodate diners in need of a quick turnaround. The service is good and it's possible to carry on a good conversation (quiet enough but not too quiet). I've missed the location in San Ramon that closed for many years, only to stumble across their location in Livermore. At one point I know the owners split up, but the food here is as great as in the past. What's more, the environment they maintain is exceptional. It's a fine dining environment that you can enjoy by today's more casual standards. Not your typical Chinese restaurant! Access from 580 is simple, located right as you enter downtown Livermore. Our takeout order was packaged in high end sealed plastic containers. Prices are high, but so is the value per dollar spent, leaving you satisfied and with a smile! I always enjoy going to Uncle Yu's. I'm not a big wine drinker but I guess this is a wine spot. The food is solid, standard American Chinese fare. The interior of the restaurant is very good too. What can I say, it's a good joint and fairly affordable but a step up from the normal Chinese-American restaurants. read more
