We've fallen in love with this place since someone recommended them to us for their Salt and Pepper Prawns. We love that they have Szechuan cuisine as well as American Chinese, and it's not too salty, too oily, or too bland. The spicy dishes we've been getting our excellent. And while they don't have a traditional twice cooked pork, they do have excellent cumin lamb/beef and dry-spiced chicken! Next we plan to try the Dan Dan noodles and mapo tofu. The man who answers the phone is always really nice and helpful when I call in an order, and has helpful advice and suggestions, like when I accidentally order all spicy dishes (and I'm feeding kids always) or if I just ask (do you have something with this and this?). I love how friendly and helpful they are here! They have a dedicated easy to access parking lot which I love over downtown places, and the interior looks nice and comfy although I've only ever done takeout. Everything is always hot and fresh, we've never had anything taste stale or old like Peking did in the end on Las Positas. The wonton soup also was delicious on last visit! Plenty of flavor but not too much oil, and my kids loved the broth. I was excited to learn you can swap in almost any entrees you want for the family meal, making it a good deal! I especially love the whiteboard menu of specials at the door. This is how our old favorite restaurant back home always did it, and I'm now taking it to mean the mark of a good restaurant. A great neighborhood spot. We picked up takeout, and it was piping hot and ready to go when we arrived to pick it up. Generous portion of a tasty Egg Drop soup, and we really liked the Mu Shu veggie. The guy at the counter is always nice and they are so quick to making the food! Also when we get home the food is still nice and hot. Our favorite go to dishes are: Black bean chicken Mongolian beef (spicy) General Tso's chicken Hong Kong style crispy noodles with vegetables The Hong Kong style crispy noodles come with the sauce in a separate container so that you can pour it over your noodles at home so that your noodles are not soggy. They also give your order in a box so that it is easier to hold and the sauce is in a tight sealed container so that you don't have to go Larry David on them ;) (Curb Your Enthusiasm with Larry David and the owner at the sushi restaurant lol) In the past if you dine in and order the mushu pork, the waiter will make your first mushu roll! I'm not sure what has happened to this place. We've ordered consistently for years. We ordered several different items and they were all greasy tasting. My chicken was questionable and the tomato beef was slimy. The prices have also been increasing which we understand but let's have quality food for that price. Sadly, we will not return. read more

I've been to this restaurant location several times in the past few years but had never reviewed it. The food has always been okay. Looking over the comments of other yelpers, it's interesting to see how the stars are distributed. People seem to either love this restaurant or hate it. I left work early because I wasn't feeling well. Thought I'd pick up some Chinese food for lunch while waiting for my car pool partner. I stopped into China Villa and was greeted immediately by an older male waiter. I told him that I would be placing an order to go and he continued on his way to serve a table. When he was done, he came over to take my order. I ordered Potstickers and Deluxe Chow Fun. On the take-out menu that I was looking at, all of the prices had been blacked out with a marker. The front of menu is printed with the name Spicy House. Handwritten beneath the name is China Villa, which is also the name on the in-house menu and on the signs outside the restaurant. The waiter told me that my total was $19.65. While I was looking at in-house menu, I saw that Potstickers were $6.50 and Deluxe Chow Fun was $9.45. A younger gentlemen came to the counter and I asked about the menu changes. He stated that the printer had made numerous errors on pricing as well as the name of the restaurant. When I asked why I had been charged so much when the two items came to $15.95, he stated that sales tax had to be added in. He then used a calculator and told me the price should have been $18.65. He asked if I had paid yet and I said yes. I told him just give me a dollar bill and we would be square. I made the comment that I hoped it was an honest mistake and not a case of creative pricing. He said that it was an honest mistake. The sales tax rate in Livermore, CA is 9.25%. $15.95 x 9.25% = $1.48. $15.95 + $1.48 = $17.43 or $1.22 less than what I paid. Giving the benefit of the doubt and going with the pricing error being an honest mistake, how do I rationalize the sales tax error? I can't and I won't. I am reporting this incident to the State Board of Equalization. When my order came, I was called to the counter. I asked if there was a napkin & fork and could I get some hot oil. The younger man asked me if I would like vinegar as well. He told me there was soy sauce in the bag which I gave back to him. He offered hot mustard which I accepted. We had a quick conversation where he stated that he couldn't eat Chow Fun without soy sauce. When I got to where I was going to have my lunch, I discovered that I didn't receive either a napkin nor a fork despite the fact that I had asked for them. Fortunately, I had a fork in the car. The Potstickers were decent in size and flavor. The presentation was six postickers placed on end into a standard white Chinese take-out box. Despite one flap being left open to vent the steam, the bottoms were no longer crunchy. The Chow Fun was okay but nothing to write home about. Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

So I've been to this place, maybe a handful of times YEARS ago, and I've always gotten the Mongolian Beef dish... YEARS ago, it was super good, ate up my whole plate. Let's fast forward to today... Last night, we ordered a bunch of food. I, of course, got the Mongolian beef dish. It comes with steamed rice. The dish had good flavor, a ton of onions (just how I like), and a lot of beef. Now here's where my excitement dwindled. As I began to eat my meal, I started chewing.. and chewing... kept chewing and chewing and chewing. Why does 1 bite off this beef take so long to chew? Why does it have this rubbery gum texture? I had to spit out every single bite I put in my mouth bc all the pieces of beef were super friggin chewy! I had to ask my dad, "What part of the cow do they get THIS beef from??" Because I wanted to make sure this type of beef is either supposed to be rubbery like this or I'm just having a trippy moment, lol. So anyway, after like 7 tries on trying to chew and swallow this food, I finally gave up and just picked over the meat and ate the onions with rice instead. So. A star for the service and another star for the flavor. Will not return. read more

Came here today for dinner, charming place and a very nice owner. We ordered the sizzling Szechwan beef ,Singaporean curry chicken noodles and hot and sour soup. To my surprise and delight the food was delicious. This is more towards authentic Chinese food and not ''mall Chinese food'. Loved it. Solid spot for good Chinese food! I like China Villa because it's one of those classic spots in Livermore that you know is consistent and always has good options to chose from. The service has always been really good here. I'm a bit picky, but I would definitely give this place 3.5 stars because I feel like it's a nice place to go for a casual date or hanging out with friends. You're always guaranteed parking and almost no wait times. The food is good; it's standard of any restaurant that serves Chinese food :) my favorite here is the walnut prawns. I also love the tea they serve here -- it's refreshing to drink and has a smooth taste. Great little spot tucked away in this shopping center. I would recommend it for people who aren't looking for a super fancy place to go and just want to have good food without the frills of a new restaurant downtown. This is a little neighborhood feel restaurant off East Ave. The inside is definitely dated, but the staff is friendly and the food has been consistently good through the years. I normally order to go from them, but they are open for inside dining now as well. Some of my favorite dishes are Singapore noodles, Salt and Pepper Fish, Chef Special Tofu, combination Chow Fun. My family attended a wedding in nearby Pleasanton, California. Our hotel accommodations were in Livermore and after the event we went shopping and we became hungry. Not knowing the area, we started using Yelp to look around and saw a couple of prospects. They all started to look similar, but we remembered two days prior. We died at an Italian restaurant after the wedding rehearsal, Terra Mia. We remembered seeing China Villa, next-door, so it was a short drive to return to that location. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised that the menu had several dishes that we liked as our family favorites. We ordered the honey, walnut chicken, barbecue pork, fried rice, and barbecue pork chow mein I personally started out with a bowl of wor won ton soup , which was excellent! This is a Cantonese restaurant and the cuisine should be familiar to many. Everything was delicious and we can't wait to go back and try something else. Should we be in the Livermore area. read more

Came to this restaurant with a coworker on our lunch. We were both hungry I wanted soup with I got won ton soup which had shrimp, chicken, and beef. My coworker order fried chicken Appetizer and I forgot the deluxe chow main which has mixed meat and shrimp in it as well. Ok so there are a group of girls siting in booth behind us. At one point one of the girls is eating but then she has to go throw up. She tells the waiter that there is mold in her shrimp. At that point I'm like "no" I'm done, but I'm going to wait and see what was moldy. Because I don't know what they are eating. It turns out there is mold on her shrimp. Then our food comes and my coworkers chicken is cold in the inside. How can fried chicken be cold on the inside? Then my coworker said " you have shrimp in your chow main and your soup. So then I was like let go. They wanted me to pay for food that could be contaminated. I'm sorry I'm not taking that chance. In the end I got kicked out because I wasn't going to pay for the food that could make me and my coworker sick. Honestly it could be a good restaurant, but I have been sick before from food and I can't take that chance. read more

This place is freaking hot garbage!! I ordered my food on Uber eats and was looking forward to eating it. Once I bit into my mandarin chicken though I became thoroughly disappointed. It tasted like fried chicken in a super salty beef and mushroom gravy. The pork fried rice I got had absolutely no pork in it and was bland as $&@*. China Villa has a new owner and a revamped menu, plus all the old lunch specials that this place has been known for. Before the ownership change this place was so-so, but the new menu features a lot of legit Chinese (and some of the Americanized stuff, it is Livermore after all). There are two menus so make sure to ask for the Chinese one if that's what you're interested in. We tried the shi zi tou (Lion's Head meatballs), sweet and sour fried fish, and pork belly / egg clay pot from the new menu, and it was all great. They also have interesting veggie dishes, like wood ear mushrooms w/ pork belly. Definitely worth a try. This is the best Chinese food in Livermore for sure -- I'm really happy I don't have to drive to Dublin or Fremont for Chinese anymore. read more

I am NOT a Chinese food fan especially suburban restaurants but China Villa is different! I've never actually eaten here so I can't speak for the restaurant physicality itself but the food I order for delivery - DELICIOUS!!!! My kids don't eat Chinese foods either but they eat China Villa. The dan dan noodles is amazing and very tasty, mushu chicken - yummy! I come here almost every week. Since my family moved here in Livermore from San Jose, 24 years ago, this has been our spot to eat Chinese food. No other place can beat this place lol. We've been going here since it's been open. If you went here and didn't like it, you need to try Mongolian Chicken, vegetable fried rice, vegetable chow mein, salted prawns with asparagus and hot and sour soup. If your vegetarian or vegan I always get Kung pao tofu or salted pepper tofu and dip it in the red spicy sauce they have. Although this place has changed with new owners I do have to say, it is still the best Chinese food in town. Before covid 19, the staff always remembered us and has been so kind. Basic respect goes along way and from sitting here to taking food out, I know this place is always underrated by poor customer behaviors. Many people in Livermore expect more and more and it does come off very rude. So that is why I gave it the extra star as of now. Have been ongoing customer here for years. I can advocate that food quality and portions have not changed even with change in ownership. Servers and cooks have remained the same. Food is always hot when it comes out. Our usuals: won ton soup, egg rolls, sesame chicken, honk Kong noodles, sweet n sour pork, oyster sauce beef, chow mein, rice.. I enjoy them all. Haven't been here in a long time, at least a few years after last owner sold and they changed cooks. Ordered what was supposed to be Mongolian Beef with rice lunch special. Ugh! Soup was ok. Appetizer was a piece of fried wonton skin that tasted like old oil. Mongolian beef was unlike any other that I've tried. It was loaded with white onions and was full of grease. I've tried the lunch specials on two occasions and one (eggplant) was decent and the other (double mushroom with chicken) was very good. For $7.25, you get some hot and sour soup to start with and a huge portion for an entree. The service is the usual "not very friendly but we'll get you what you ask for" you get in many of the cheap Asian restaurants. Overall, it's a good lunch spot with plenty of tables and parking.
