We had two entrees. The Mongolian Beef was a large portion and consisted almost entirely of meat. It tasted nothing like any Mongolian beef I've ever had. It tasted like Szechuan beef. So I wasn't really happy with it but it was large and meaty. The other entrée was the shrimp lo mein. The lo mein noodles had practically no flavor. I mean, they were tasteless other than noodles that were in oil. The best thing about lo mein is the lo mein sauce and this seemed to have nothing. It was, however, a very large portion of noodles and adequate amount of shrimp. So on portion size, I give them five out of five. On taste I give them a two out of five. read more

It has taken me a while to figure out what Chinese restaurants are authentic and yummy in the Twin Cities. Specifically, I have been looking for a place that makes beef ho fun. It's comfort food to me. I did a search on my Uber Eats app and found this dish being offered at China Garden. Yes, please! I got the following items: - Steamed pork dumplings (8) - Beef ho fun - Thai milk tea I went with delivery. It was free and it's a treat to me. I normally fetch my takeout orders. It didn't take long for my food to arrive at my hotel room's doorstep. I asked that the driver leave it there and knock on my door before leaving. It's like getting a gift, except that you know what it is. I started with the steamed pork dumplings. They were yummy. They were handmade. The wrappers securely held the pork filling. The filling was yummy and generous. The dipping sauce paired perfectly with the dumplings. The beef ho fun was a massive portion. The beef slices were tender and full of flavour. I loved the green onions, bean sprouts, and onions. The wok sear on everything was excellent. The noodles were fresh and chewy. The sauce coated everything perfectly. The only downside was that it was on the oily side. I need to make a note to ask that this dish be prepared with less oil. Otherwise, I was impressed. It was yummy and authentic. I had Thai iced tea to wash everything down. It was excellent. I'd get it again. I got a couple of fortune cookies. They were a nice, crunchy end to my meal. I had an excellent experience. If I want American Chinese food that's bang for your buck, I usually go here for the lunch special. I get 3 lunch specials for my husband and me just so I can eat some for the next day and also get some free rangoons while I'm at it. Check out the coupons they have for online ordering so it's a quick in and out and you can get additional discounts or free items added to your order! I got their egg foo young and general tsos chicken usually, both which have huge portions where I usually eat half for lunch and the other half for dinner. There's plenty of parking in the lot as well, so no need to look for street parking. I remember driving about 30-40 minutes after picking up the food and the food was still piping hot too. read more

We placed our order on their wed site and got it delivered on a Sunday night. They delivered it in about 35 minutes which was very impressive! Food was still hot but they forgot one of the white rice that should've come with the dishes. It's always disappointing when they forget something but at least it was white rice and not one of the main dishes. Still a huge menu and cheap prices which is why we like ordering from them. We really enjoy the sesame and orange chicken. I didn't mind the chicken pad Thai! It was a little different taste then what I am use to. It didn't have much veggies. Great place to grab lunch with a friend! It's quiet, it's calm, it just us a relaxed vibe that allows you to chill, unplug and enjoy. I was here with a friend and neither of us had been here before, it was recommended by another friend. He went for the pad Thai with beef and I always go for the pork egg foo young. It did not disappoint! I can eat some food and the portion will fill you up, guaranteed! Our host seated us and let us know she was training in someone new, the service we received was great, they key our drinks filled, they checked up on us every so often if we needed extra sauce or anything. This is a stripmall Chinese restaurant that I had high hopes would be a go-to for Americanized Chinese food. We got the spring rolls ($4.04) and fried vegetable dumpling ($6.10 for 8 pieces). Both of these simple appetizers were pretty good. The vegetable chow ho fun ($8.80) was a straightforward, savory noodle dish. I liked it. The broccoli with garlic sauce ($8.60), bean curd home style ($8.60) and bean curd Szechuan style ($8.60) all suffered from the same issues: a gloopy, congealed sauce and TONS of oil. These main dishes felt really heavy, though they did taste all right. Word of warning: the two bean curd dishes (home style and Szechuan) are indistinguishable from each other. If you're looking for great Americanized Chinese food, head a few miles south to Hunan Restaurant in Bloomington, which is stellar. Yangtze in St. Louis Park is also great. For something authentic, check out Grand Szechuan in Bloomington or Szechuan in Roseville. read more

I've been searching for the best cheap Chinese in the Twin Cities, and the latest I tried was China Garden in Richfield. I went for the General Tso's lunch special, extra spicy. The chicken wasn't overwhelmingly spicy whatsoever, but their "spicy" version would be the perfect balance of sweet and heat for most. I had to throw a bit of sriaracha and hot chili garlic sauce in there, but once I did, it was certainly on point. The meal came with chicken fried rice, which I really enjoyed as opposed to pork/veggie fried rice. Furthermore, you can add on any soup for $.50, making it a crazy steal. The food itself was a 3/5, but the bang for your buck for a lunch special with soup ($8 after tax) definitely took it up a star! read more

A bit of a hiccup with Uber Eats. China Garden was listed as a delivery within 30 minutes, however after 45 minutes I called the restaurant. The man I spoke to said they never got to our order. He was very apologetic but didn't offer to make amends. Finally, we agreed that he would start the order so I could pick it up. As I was leaving the house the man called back indicating the food had left the restaurant for delivery and they threw in an extra app. Frustrating for sure, but at least they tried to make it right. The food was much better than anticipated. The teryiaki chicken was tasty as were the wontons and dumplings. I'll give them another shot and hope the delivery service works out. read more

China Garden was our go-to Chinese take out from 2015-2017. Then it went downhill fast. It was as though someone new was cooking. We tried again tonight after three years and it appears they have their mojo back! With the exception of the fried rice which was a little under seasoned (although it had generous chunks of char siu), all the other entrees were quite tasty. The sauces and wok prep were what you always hope Chinese take out will be but rarely actually is. The Mongolian beef had a nice smoky wok hay, the Singapore noodles had generous amounts of meat and mini-shrimp all with a pleasant turmeric-y zing, and the sesame chicken sauce was not unidimensional like it is so many places. Could actually taste the fruit in it. They appear to be paying attention to detail again which is great to know. So glad we gave it another chance. These guys are back on the list! read more

The only reason I am giving this one star is because ZERO is not an option. We ordered delivery to our hotel on a Wednesday night at 6:30. They told us it would be 50 minutes to an hour. It took a full one hour and forty minutes for our food to arrive. The food was horrible. Totally bland. It all tasted the same. I ordered hunan chicken EXTRA HOT AND SPICY. Not only was it not hot, it tastes pretty much just like the orange chicken and the kung poa chicken that we ordered. I tried this place out via Uber Eats since they had some massive coupons. I'm rating this based on two highly Americanized "Chinese" dishes, sweet and sour chicken and General Tso's (I do like more authentic stuff as well but it's just that these are my high carb cheat meal dishes). It's a bit tough to judge good "SS" and Gen Tso chicken because they tend to be different at different places, but the ones I got here "hit the spot" for what I was looking for. For me, that would mean SS chicken tends to have a slightly sweet, thicker batter that is crunchy on the outside but with good amount of chicken. The SS sauce is more fruity and sweet and less savory. The Gen Tso chicken, I've had ones that I can tell are objectively good, but have more of a savory flavor, but again, I prefer a sweeter one, which this one did. Also, the portions were definitely plentiful. The fried rice also was what I expected (in a good sense). I guess it hit my expectations / cravings for Americanized takeout Chinese that you want late at night. I'll probably try out a couple other places with the coupons I have, but will definitely keep this place as a go-to when I don't have coupons but have a strong craving and want to make sure I satisy it. read more

We've ordered twice from them. Never again. First time, food was not good -- tough white rice and chicken that seemed to have been run through a deflavorizing machine. As far as the flavor, it was decent food at a reasonable price and a large portion for the money paid. It was a solid meal. It is what I would expect from Chinese delivery. What impressed me the most was that we received our $80 order in the time amount that was promised and it was all hot and fresh.
