My husband and I have been craving Chinese food and this establishment is near our home. We stopped in for an early dinner. We had to go to the restroom first. Afterwards I almost had my husband take me elsewhere. The light switch is very dirty. The tiles and floor are in disrepair. I couldn't get hot water out of the faucet to wash my hands. We ended up going ahead and trying them out. We got dinner #B hot and sour soup, orange chicken, shrimp LoMain , egg rolls , cheese wonton and fried shrimp. The soup had a weird aftertaste I could not figure out what so I didn't eat any more my husband felt the same way so we left it behind. The eggrolls and fried shrimp had like an old oil taste to them. The cheese wontons were very good. We could have eaten more of them. Clearly this is a small family run operation, with the hostess up front, who also doubled as our server and also runs to the kitchen to get the Take-Out, while answering the phones. She easily put on 5K in steps, while we were sitting here. It was just incredible to watch. But the key here is the food and to a lesser extent the service. Some of the reviewers seem to miss that and took exception to this incredibly hard working owner. We went with the Fried Pork Dumplings, Chicken Cashew and General Tso's Chicken (photos). We came in for lunch around 2pm today and were Sat immediately. Ordered 2 lunch specials that came with egg drop soup for 7.95 which is more than reasonable. This place has been on and off my radar now for the entire 18 months I have lived so close. A new Thai and a new Korean place recently opened in the same downtown area, and I haven't been compelled to try either of them yet as well. Hungry and heavy rain lured me in even though I had a big bag of fresh groceries, and I can cook like the wind. I really just wanted a big bowl of hot and sour soup but opted for a combination appetizer platter. Fried shrimp, Egg rolls, Paper chicken, Crab ragoons and both steak and chicken skewers served in a large sectioned out wood serving bowl with a flaming cauldron in the center. It wasn't bad, and that beat expectations. I would have liked more sweet n sour sauce over the larger than necessary brown sauce. The place isn't much to look at as the hostess desk is basically a box with glass and stuff everywhere, the dining room ultra-bright and the tables sparsely topped. Service was nonexistent, a gesture to sit where I liked, a quick order, and food unceremoniously dropped at the table until the end when my server came out into the rain and called out to me because I had left something behind. We ordered egg rolls, Orange Chicken, and black pepper beef. The order came with fried rice. I called in the order for delivery. The service is what you expect in any chinese restaurant. Lol, non existant basically, but that's normal. For a restaurant, the quality of the food is what you expect from a takeout, not restaurants. The best thing about our order was the crispy egg rolls. The orange chicken wasn't crispy, and some pieces were really dry. The black pepper beef looked promising, but once we dig in, we find a lot more onions than beef. And this was a chef's specialty. The fried rice was good with both items. Can't say much about the ambiance of the place since we had the order to go. We may try other items, but we'll see. read more

I just want to preface this by saying I do have quite a bit of bias towards this place since I used to have lunch here quite often when I was younger. This place used to have a massive silver arowana tank which was amazing for a kid my age, but it has changed ownership a few times since then. What I can say is that the pan fried noodles are still absolutely amazing. I want to mention that this is less of a bistro restaurant, and more of a home-style flavor, so don't expect any incredibly powerful flavors, instead, enjoy the subtlety and nuance. We'll we gave it a shot. The staff were attentive & nice, but the food lacked flavor. The chow or lo mein - how do I say this without being unkind? I don't know how to explain it, I've never tasted lo mein the way it tasted. It was bland & although cooked, it wasn't lo mein. I'd say I've had chow mein taste like ramen noodle pack from the store, this wasn't close to how 99c top ramen tastes, even with the over saturated sodium packet, just very bland & a weird taste. The won ton soup was Ok, but I've have had better. So sorry to give a low rating but I have to be honest. Maybe the original cook is gone and whoever took over is trying but it's just not what we're used to in Chinese food. Maybe in future they'll get a new cook and we'll try it then. read more

The best part of the whole meal was the egg roll shells. The lemon chicken had absolutely no lemon flavor, at all. I cannot believe it had a 4.5 star rating on Grubhub. just goes to show you that you cannot trust the ratings. Ignore those reviews that are more than 4 or 5 years old. I've eaten here 4 times recently. The food is good, not great. I like my spicy food slightly spicy and I have to order it extra EXTRA spicy to get it spicy enough for this gringo senior! Judging this on a low price, low expectation scale. I've come here on a few occasions when I'm out visiting my grandparents - and each time I think it's just "ok." Nothing to write home about, nothing to make me jump for joy. Given the restaurant selections in Sun City; however, it is probably one of the better, non-chain dining options. That aside, my issues come down to: * So many of the dishes are fried. I know frying is easy... but... eww? * Nothing is spicy, except for the hot and sour soup. I have tried multiple dishes with the little chili pepper next to it - including general tso's chicken, orange chicken and some beef dish.. and none have been spicy. Bring on the heat, baby! * I always leave feeling a bit... queasy. Last time it wasn't just me - it was my mum and hubby, too. Our food never comes out at the same time - my mum and hubby got their dishes a good 10 minutes before my dad got his. Mine had to go back, on this last occasion, as it was cold. I won't hold that against them though - I'm definitely not a chef and couldn't even begin to think about how to make orders come out at the same time! Great food and good selection. The Egg Foo Young is a favorite of mine.

I've been very disappointed with this restaurant lately. It used to be my favorite go-to restaurant for Chinese takeout but has gone down hill since the pandemic. It sadly went out of business in 2020 then reopened by which seems to be a new ownership. I've even given it three tries since. They charge more and give you less, even in smaller containers. (I typically do the lunch special takeout.) I got the orange chicken last time - there was nothing "orange" flavored about it and even no "chicken" about it. Definitely no egg roll with it either. Which they used to give you. Even the front desk lady is so cold and unfriendly unlike the man who used to be there. So unfortunately they will no longer get my business. I was so happy when I received a menu at my house in Menifee with a Chinese restaurant that delivered. I didn't know there was one for the last 14 years since I moved here from San Diego. I have now ordered 5 times from China Garden, all delivery to my home. They arrive in 45 minutes to 1 hour, which is perfectly acceptable for me since I plan ahead and am usually working prior to their arrival. They always arrive very friendly and polite. I order the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce because it's my favorite! I get one order the way they make it (with lot of things in it like snap peas, mushrooms and the crunchy water chesnuts, etc.) and one order with just broccoli and the shrimp with lobster sauce. I get the steamed rice, but one time I ordered their big shrimp fried rice dinner and it was fantastic! It was the same size the shrimp with lobster sauce comes in and there was some egg in it and something else but I can't recall. I had trouble getting through and received a recording that sounded like they were out of business, but they said you hear that when they are on both lines. I'm glad I kept trying, because dinner last night was AWESOME! If you want to give this restaurant a try and love shrimp, I highly recommend the shrimp with lobster sauce! I took pictures for you guys/gals, too, so you can see how it comes. I tip them on the receipt, too. I think the bill was $24 and I gave them a $4 tip. Food is ok. But my complaint is the theft/stealing of credit/debit card numbers by this business. Ordered delivery and paid with a card that I rarely use. About 3 hours after the purchase my card started being used to make online purchases at "Kfga" and "Facebook". Unfortunately it was a debit card so they literally drained the account to $0. Super disappointed. I called at 4:50pm and ordered 2 Kung Pao Tofu, Mongolian Chicken, Crab Rangoon for delivery. The food arrived at 6:30pm. If over an hour and half isn't bad enough, they cheated us out of one of the dinners. Of course everyone was hungry after waiting around for almost 2 hours so when we opened the bag and there were only two dinners we were in shock. They never made this mistake before. What really bothered us was the way they handled it. I called and spoke to Alyssa. She did not apologize for the big mistake or offer any solution. Instead she said " I only charged you for one Kung Pao Tofu" My response. That isn't the problem. I ordered 2. The mistake is yours. We have hungry people who r waited around for 2 hours.
