Take out Chinese food at its best. I usually get the General Toas chicken with the brown rice comes in different heat for the general sauce mild,medium,and Hot. They have lunch and dinner portions. lots of food for the price. Their egg rolls are also fantastic with great real plum sauce. this story tells you how good of food they have. I was in there one day and an old work friend I used to work with many years ago was in there i knew he moved to Whitaker road and well south of 94 and he goes all the way to Wayne and Ford road to get his Chinese food at China Gate now that is a ringing endorsement. The freshest tasting Chinese I have had to-date. Another wonderful family owned and operated gem in Westland. The place is always packed (which is a good sign) with people getting carryout. There is a small area to eat if you wish to stay there, but the majority of the buiness is grab-n-go. Very generous portions; so much so that you will most likely have seconds for tomorrow. I have probably had about half the menu and always migrate back to the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The owners are there all the time working so hard - it's admirable. I have really been enjoying their egg rolls. They are $.99 and buy five and get one free. One comes with my combination of their amazing Almond Chicken, so that makes seven egg rolls for my family of four! I love this restaurant.. first time I've tried China Gate Chinese... their almond chicken is so good very tasty and their chicken fried rice was very delicious the rice was actually perfect and their plum sauce is so good and their egg rolls are out of this world..... I've been in search of a decent Chinese chop suey. I was in Westland shopping and chose this one for carry out. While I was waiting for my order many customers came in to pick ups their carry out. I thought this was a promising sign. - but it wasn't. The prices were fair. The 2 egg rolls were OK. The chicken chop suey was borderline awful. Mostly bean sprouts, a little bit of celery, some bamboo shoots all in a gooey sauce. See the photos. I ate a couple of bites and threw the rest down the garbage disposer. Maybe some of their other dishes are OK, this was definitely not thI'll continue my search. (I like to compare the food with the now closed Kawloon's and Hong Kong restaurant in Dearborn.) read more

I was looking for an in area Chinese food restaurant about two weeks ago and went to yelp to find it ... boy am I happy I listened to the positive ratings because their food was GREAT ! I have been about 4 times in two weeks ! What's even better Ethan the food is the EXCELLENT customer service ! But back to the food, I had the sweet and sour chicken and shrimp . They were both cooked to "perfection" nice and crisp! The last time I went I bought the pepper steak and rice and that was good also! The meat was very tender . Great food ! 5 stars read more

We were recently introduced to the Crab Rangoon, a while back, sifter seeing them referenced many times on YELP reviews. China Gate is fairly close by and had some good reviews and some Crab Rangoons on the menu. They were quite good. You get eight in a sack for $4.50 and they are hot and crispy. We asked for the sweet sauce as indicated by the reviews and it was a tasty treat. The sauce could have been a little sweeter, but it was adequate. Thai being said, we went ahead and ordered some other items as well. We ordered the General Tso's Chicken Combo (with Fried rice and Egg roll) and it was pretty good. The sauce was a little too thick and sticky for me, but my Grandson loved it. I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster sauce and when it didn't come in a combo. I wondered what kind of dish I ordered. I got a side of fried rice for an extra $1. The Shrimp were pretty good size and floating in a bowl of a version of seafood egg drop soup. It had peas and a couple of other tiny vegetables floating around as well and a hint of seafood (Lobster?). I didn't know what to expect, but it was a pretty good meal with my fried rice side order. We also ordered my Wife's standard Almond Boneless Chicken in a combo and it was definitely not what she expected. She prefers the yellow sauce and this came out with a sort of light brown gravy with a very peculiar taste. The Chicken was deep fried and heavily crusted and a little bit over cooked as it was quite tough and chewy. We couldn't even eat it and that doesn't happen very often. There is a little bit of a communication barrier for phone orders so be prepared to be patient unless you know exactly what you want. Overall, we didn't know what to expect as it has been a few years since we tired China Gate and we did love the Crab Rangoons. I'm going with 3 stars and I'll be back... read more

The best food value in town. If you order a lunch item, expect it to feed 2 people. If you order a dinner item, it will feed 4 normal people. The rice is the best I can find. Service is good, the price is right and the food is excellent. I spend half an hour in line at a fast food restaurant, or I call here, and my food is hot and ready in 15 minutes. This place is really good! The Crab Rangoon is SO good! Their General Tso's is delicious. One recommendation, ask for the chicken extra crispy. Also, their hot mustard is amazing. Seriously, it's the best hot mustard I've ever had. If you like it really hot, you have to specify so. Their "hot" is VERY flavorful, but not enough heat for my taste. It's a carryout joint only. Their portions are really big. So if you order their dinner portion, get some Tupperware ready for some leftovers. The customer service is really friendly as well. Hands down best Chinese. We drive from grand river and beech Daly because nothing compares. The wontons are wrapped in this soft noodle and has amazing flavor- this is thee only place I like the wontons. They have delicious gravy for their almond chicken and its served on the side. I decided to check this place out for carry out one night when my boyfriend wasn't home. (He isn't the biggest fan of Chinese food and I love it). Previously, I had been driving to Livonia to get my good Chinese food but wanted someplace closer to home. From the rating on Yelp, I decided on China Gate. I called, and the woman on the phone was very polite, told me ten minutes. Showed up, and the she was still very polite. When I got it home, the food was fresh and hot and packed with care - my sweet and sour sauce was wrapped in plastic so it did not leak or drip in the bag (A huge pet peeve of mine.) The chicken was so good, fresh, perfectly cooked and all white meat. The egg roll was delicous, so crispy and hot. The rice was very very good as well! The Crab Ragoon was also quite good. Over all, I loved it- and will be back very soon. I am happy to have found a great place less than five minutes from home. read more

I've been coming here for almost 10 years now. The staff hasn't changed much in those 10 years. Most of the people that go here are regulars since they don't do much advertising and it's tucked away. It has a few tables, but it isn't really a place you would sit down and eat at. The food usually takes about 15/20 minutes, so it's good to call ahead and know what you want to order. If you look through the pictures on this Yelp page, you'll see the menu. The portions are big. I've never been able to eat a whole "lunch" size combination plate in one sitting. The orange chicken is wonderful and has a little spiciness to it, without being too hot. If you want it hotter, you can request it to be made spicier. The egg rolls are also delicious (I'm usually pretty picky). The fortune cookies crack me up. Some fortunes have words that are misspelled, some are just goofy, and you may not even get a fortune in some! Luckily that usually give you plenty of them. :) read more

We got some carryout from here tonight. The food was similar to mall food court Chinese. The meat was mostly fried and heavily breaded. The sauces were overly sweet and otherwise bland. The egg rolls were oddly squishy inside, not really sure why. They didn't taste too bad though. It was all hot and seemed made fresh though. On the plus side, their portions were very large and their prices were low. Probably not a place I'll return to frequently, but it wasn't too bad. read more

I give this place a 5 star negative. I went there on 3/10/16 after 7pm not very busy. And my order was messed up The owner expected me to drive 6 miles back with the food after 9 o'clock at night when I finally get home to eat dinner she didn't even offer me a complimentary meal the next time I come.
