I called to complain about receiving the incorrect order for takeout. I ordered Chicken Chow Mein Combo, which was to come with fried rice and an egg roll. We bring the food home and find NO NOODLES. I called to complain the next day because by time we discovered the error, they were closed. China House told me that THEIR Chicken Chow Mein doesn't have noodles. Google images of Chicken Chow Mein and see if you get images with noodles! They said we had to bring the food back, which I will gladly dig out of my garbage can and put back in the container, but they said I had to call the same day. Once again, they were closed. You may be wondering why we tossed it instead of simply eating it. That's because the other meal, General Tso Chicken, had a long hair in it. Love this place!! To me ordering take out Chinese is the pinnacle of seeking comfort during stressful times! China house is probably the best Chinese restaurant in Berea, Middleburg Heights, Parma, North Olmsted and probably all the way till downtown Cleveland! It's a small family owned business in a strip mall. Their dishes are very authentic and made with homestyle love! Very delicious and the price is simply unbeatable. All items are made fresh to order! The staff there are very friendly with me and they seem to really enjoy their job in their business and it really shows in the quality of their food! My favorite items to order here are their: crab Rangoon, pork egg roll, steamed pork dumpling, house special fried rice, and spicy Kung pao chicken! It is so yummy! Due to the pandemic, there is no dine in but the take out experience has been exceptional. The food is ready within 10 minutes of ordering by phone and everything ready to go when you arrive. I just wish they'd also add in the utensils in the bag because I always forget to carry one on my way out. My Wife and I ordered our meals through grub hub. My wife ordered the sweet and sour pork dinner and I the sweet and sour chicken dinner. We received the meals without any sweet and sour sauce for either meal. I called the restaurant and got hung up on. We placed a large (over $40) telephone order and were given an estimate of an hour. After waiting 90 minutes, I called to check on the order: the person who answered took my address and assured me the driver was on his way, so it should arrive in 5 minutes. The file very is awful and always takes about an hour or longer. You're better off just driving there and picking it up because then you get it in 15 minutes instead of 90! I've been to China House many times, the service has always been average and the food has been the same. Last night, however, I had a very different experience. I went with two friends and we ordered 3 dishes: two orders of sesame chicken and one of orange chicken. We brought the food back to my house and found that all of the dishes were exactly the same, but that the sesame just had seeds sprinkled on top. The sesame chicken even had orange peels in it. The chicken was dry and tough and none of us even came close to finishing our meals, as they were gross and strange. We all agreed to call the next morning to discuss it with a manager. This morning I called and asked to speak to a manager. I explained what had happened and she literally told me that I should have called last night and brought the food back up, and because I did not that she could do nothing for me. I explained that it was nearly 9 pm by the time we were done eating and she told me still that because I did not call and return the food last night that she could not help me. I told her that I would not be returning to China House if they were not willing to do anything to right this, and she told me that was fine, said goodbye and hung up. I worked here five years and still go up to CH to say hi to Tina and Paul whenever I'm in town. As most of berea and OF already knows, china house is first rate. Having worked there, I can say that they do things right, don't cut any corners and are always preparing their food fresh. Living in New Haven/NYC now and I still long for their spicy szechuan chicken with added black beans. Nobody does it quite like them. Here's a secret: Most orders taste just as good if not better steamed or w/ 'light oil' (just ask) and you won't have that 'oh i wish i didn't just eat a quart of greasy chinese food' feeling afterward. I don't know where all the negative complaints come from. I have been buying meals from them for years . as Chinese goes they are one of the better in the area. I only once ever had a delivery late. usually we go in to order / pickup. only once was an order not complete. and yes if you keep the rice in a box it dries out but they use plastic containers also for their combos and that rice never dries out. China House has been in Berea for Ever! Ok, maybe not FOR-EV-VER but, a long time. It isn't a place you want to go and sit down and have dinner but for some take-out Chinese, it is great. The employees are really nice and the cooks are speedy. The food is non-to-bad as far as Chinese food goes and there are some nice vegetarian options or "diet" options w/ steamed vegetable too! This place has really gone down hill. What we once considered pretty good Chinese takeout has now become completely devoid of flavor and nearly inedible. The vegetable fried rice was terribly bland and dry, the sesame chicken was slimy, and the kung pao chicken was overloaded with peanuts and full of chunky carrots that were nearly raw. This place has gone downhill over the years! I've been a customer for almost ten years and have seen the transition into dismal. My last two meals have been disgusting. I don't know what kind of meat they are services but usda needs to be called. The general tsoas chicken was some kind of dark black meat under the sauce and didn't have the consistency of chicken. I could hardly chew it. The fried chicken wings are darn sure NOT chicken! The rice is hard one day later. I believe they are used Old and expired good products. This has become our favorite Chinese place. The roast pork fried rice is excellent, and the boneless pork ribs are the best we've had. The egg drop soup is also very good. I wouldn't recommend the egg rolls, though, since they don't have much filling, and the shrimp toast, while very flavorful, is also very greasy. If you can ignore the bad attitudes, at-best 'average' food (at worst, awful), and obvious violations of child labor laws, this is a great place. But, if good food, or supporting local businesses who care about their business and their customers is important to you, look elsewhere. Have been there a few times, circumstances have always been "what's quick and cheap because I don't have time for food". This last time however, we had a party of four people, who were all getting meals, and decided to sit down to eat. I like my food spicy, had forgotten to ask for it hot, and went up and asked for their Chili Oil (every Chinese restaurant typically has that available, if not already on the tables when you dine in). Well, apparently Chili Oil is not an option there, but they had small solo cups of what appeared to be Huy Fong Sambal Oelek, or maybe Garlic Chili. So I asked for one, and one for my friend because she likes spicy food too, so they handed them to me and the underage kid behind the counter said "One Dollar." Really? I'm eating in, and you're going to charge me for condiments that should be on the table? When I brought this up, they didn't seem to care. They should be encouraging the additional spice. Their pork fried rice is mostly inept, closer to the "yellow" pork fried rice than the heartier brown pork fried rice. The sprouts and onions could use a nice flash in some soy/hoisin sauce, everything a touch jacked up in salt. The pork itself tastes frozen from a bag, it's not terribly appetizing at all. The egg roll I had was cooked well, however they are really overdue to change their oil. Tasted like the oil had hit the smoke point somewhere along the way, or maybe it just hasn't been changed in a really, really, really long time. Contents of the egg roll, mostly bland and uneventful. Outside of the condiment issue (which I realize is a little thing, but this is a cost of doing business in the food industry - deal with it), the food is really pretty mediocre. I can get past that for a quick fix gotta eat thing, and would have given this place a full two stars on food. What I can't get past is supporting people whose attitudes are crap. That'll get you a one star, and that'll ensure that you've gotten the last dollar you will from me. read more

I took over 2 hours to receive our order. It was barely warm, extremely oily, and the eggrolls were pretty bad. Never again.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. This was the worst excuse for Chinese food that I have ever tried to eat - everything tasted off and dirty, the flavors were awful and as though the items had been sitting in a basement pantry for some time. The musty, disgusting blend of spice was more like 'dirty dish' than anything remotely edible. In addition, the meat that was used in the dishes that we ordered (particularly the beef) was questionable at best. The texture and flavor were not quite right, and no one in our group could actually consume it without questioning exactly what animal it may have come from. Everyone in our group declined to eat anything, and we decided it was better to order a pizza. When we called to inform them about the problems with the food, they acted like it was something that happened all the time. I got the equivalent of 'if you don't like it, don't eat here,' and the employee hung up. The worst part is, they double charged our credit card, and I have had to go to great lengths to get these charges removed. I say, if you're craving a crappy night with sub-par food, eat at China House. If you're looking for something somewhat edible, have your neighbor's kid make you a mud pie. My husband and I love this place. The food is always good and I don't get migraines after eating their food like I do at a lot of other Asian food restaurants. The owners are always friendly and we have never had bad service from there, We usually eat here once or twice a month but we have never eaten inside the restaurant, as it is small and we live a few minutes away anyways. Of all the things I have tried, my favorite are the vegetable rolls. They are crispy, packed full with vegetables, and are not a lot of money. The only reason I don't give this place five stars is because I only save that for the very best places. Bland food, poor phone communication, management is overly defensive and unhelpful. Multiple times, I ordered an extra side of brown sauce, and the lid broke because they piled too many things on top of it, so brown sauce leaked all over the bag and contents. I told them each time, and asked multiple times if perhaps there's something they can do differently so that it doesn't continue to happen--it's quite a mess to clean up. However, the manager, who barely speaks English, says it's my problem and that it never happens to anyone else. Somehow they think it has nothing to do with them, and they are unwilling to do anything about it. Time to find a new Chinese restaurant who can package food correctly in a bag, at a minimum. read more
