If you are looking for authentic, high-quality Chinese food, China House (also known as China House Garden) on Bank Street is the place to go. I've tried a lot of spots, but this is hands-down my new favorite. The Standout Dishes: * Spicy Beef and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce: This is a game-changer. They can't read a simple written order that stated "no vegetables" ok the order. Picked up foot and got back to work and found it loaded with vegetables. Called and the person who answered says "I no understand". Well maybe if you can't understand English then you shouldn't be taking orders. You understand when I pay you how much I owe. read more

Not greesy enough. This is Chinese food that is not greesy. That's not good. There goes the taste. I asked for shrimp egg roll and I got pork egg roll. On top of that, no fortune cookie. This place is normally OK at best. We don't eat Chinese food very often but we do use them on occasion when we do. We had some last night and the food was just atrocious. It's food was very greasy. The dumplings were like 90% though same thing with the crab Rangoon's the spare ribs were very greasy. There's too many options to have subpar Chinese food. We have ordered from this restaurant in the past and the food was always great . I admit it was a while ago since we last ordered but decided to get food there tonight . Food was not good -crab Rangoon was over cooked and had a smear of cream cheese , boneless ribs were dry and over cooked , shrimp with broccoli was greasy and tasteless . Ordered rice with extra pork and no vegetables, delivered with minimal pork and plenty of vegetables. Called and asked for replacement, acknowledged they made a mistake and then charged me for extra pork. Delivered new quart of rice with a few pieces of pork on top and NONE in the rest of the rice. Food is very good. My wife and I moved here from NY in February and after trying another local Chinese place we were quickly recommended to try China House. Food is generally excellent. My wife and I only eat from 2 restaurants in Seymour. This is one of them. So....tonight we ordered for 5th maybe 6th time since moving to CT. Everything tasted good but my entree was quite a bit off. It's a dish I order from there regularly and it's usually amazing. I tried to call and the lady made excuses and insinuated that I was lying basically. Asked if I could come get something else she said"no!" What??!!? Did she just say no? I spent 25.00 but I should end my night unsatisfied??!? I drove down immediately and said again the dish didn't taste right and handed it back. She did not make it easy for me and I still felt like she felt I was lying?!? She asked me what I wanted so I came up with another dish that was 60 cents more that I knew would be good. She said NO..... All I can say is wow! She finally caved but the audacity and stubbornness of this woman was ridiculous. When the new food was ready she would not face me and I spoke to another gentleman. I forked over 2.00 for the .60 difference and said "sorry for the inconvenience." I really like this place. I especially like the orange chicken and the shrimp and broccoli in garlic sauce. It's better to order in person though because the guy who answers the phone doesn't seem to speak English too well and can have a hard time understanding your order. The bf and I order from here all the time. The food is great (especially the General Tso's chicken). We've always gotten our food delivered so I can't say anything about the actual venue but dinner is always here within a half hour of ordering, though they say 45 min. This is the best Chinese food around period. I have been coming here for over 12 years and it has remained consistently excellent. Best General Tso's I've ever had. We just ordered food to take home, almost $50 worth. It was such a disappointment! Not only were we overcharged but the food was so bland and tasteless! The crab rangoon was so chewy I thought I was eating cream cheese flavored jerky. The fried rice was so bland it could have been plain white with bean sprouts scattered throughout with an occasional onion cube. The brown sauce on the mixed vegetables we ordered may as well have been food coloring. If this is your idea of good chinese then you dont know what you're talking about. read more

I wouldn't order from this place ever again. My bill came out to 18 dollars online. They charge a 1.50 service fee (included in the 18 dollar price that goes to the delivery driver) and then when the delivery driver gets there, I offer a 20 dollar bill (a 15% tip--which he's lucky he got a tip at all because service industry sucks!). HE LITERALLY (ANGRILY) SAID "GIVR ME ONE DOLLAR??!!!" And would NOT let me close my door while my dog tried to run out of the house. He kept trying to open the door and wouldn't leave until my husband got him ANOTHER TWO DOLLARS. I should've called the cops. what kind of customer service is that???? Very upset with a place that I've ordered the SAME thing from multiple times and had the DELIVERY DRIVER KEEP ME FROM CLOSING THE DOOR! That's absolutely an invasion of space and for someone who has spent 10 years in the tip service industry I am absolutely appalled at how they treated a repeat customer when given a modest 15% tip (which by the way is better than being stiffed by a customer). It's unfortunate and Unbelievable and I will not be ordering again. The first time I had food from here it was good. But it has way down since then. The time before last we ordered orange chicken and it tasted fishy. When we called to ask for a replacement item we were refused with a huge attitude. Eventually, after much arguing, they replaced it with ribs but charged us $3 extra for the exchange. We decided to give it one more try because it is close, but once again our food tasted fishy- this time sesame chicken. The egg rolls were sour and left an awful aftertaste. This was the second time we tried them. First time was a year ago. I liked the idea of ordering online. The food wasn't great a year ago, but not bad. This time the food was god-awful. We each tried a spoonfull of wonton soup and threw it out. The fried rice had some kind of crunchy, unidentifiable meat in it so we picked around it because we were hungry.
