After seeing a movie down the street, my family and I came to Oriental Gourmet for dinner. There was plenty of seating and the restaurant had a classic, retro vibe. We were impressed that they had so many different Asian cuisines to choose from! For our first visit we stuck primarily to Chinese food, but it's good to know they have sushi too. Almost every dish was good, but my mom didn't really love her Mongolian beef and said it had a weird grittiness to it. Our server was attentive and they refilled our waters often. I'm so happy I found a new amazing Chinese food restaurant! I had a little of everything. Crispy eggrolls, friend dumplings that were thin wrapper fully stuffed with meaty filling. Well cooked boneless spare ribs that were very lean, well sauced but not too much. Chicken and broccoli was good quality meat in a light sauce and not too salty. Vegetable lo mein was packed with fresh veggies and well seasoned. Condiments and fortune cookies came with it without having to ask. Found them on DoorDash! The food was less seasoned than when I previous times I've ordered from this restaurant Grub hub ordering is not as reliable as ordering directly from the restaurant. I ordered hot and sour soup and got egg drop soup, I asked for extra dipping sauce for my dumplings and got only a small amount of dipping sauce without ginger or sesame oil al ost pure soy sauce. Great spot located right off I-84 in the plaza. My fiance & I went here for dinner on a wednesday night and there was a decent amount of people dining in, not packed but take out was very consistent. The service was impeccable and very diligent. There was never a moment where we were waiting around for the server. The sushi was phenomenal, had crab rangoon as an appetizer & 2 chickens entrees. So delicious!! My boyfriend and his family have been coming here for years and it's their go to spot for Chinese food and sushi rolls. We came here for lunch and the service was so friendly and fast. It's a family run spot and they are so nice! Their menu has a little bit of everything. I had the hibachi chicken and tried a few sushi rolls. Wow, what a difference Covid 19 can make... or is this place under new ownership. Food had really tumbled. Today I received a quart of hot and sour soup that was 3/4ths full and looked Like cabbage soup- errors yes - taste lousy - not hit and sour soup. My sons Pork Lo Mein smelled like cigarette smoke and about two weeks ago my general tsaos was just off. 1/2 broccoli was bright green other 1/2 was "old green". I forgot to check but I'm not sure this is being run by Mr Poon (sp?) any longer. Did he sell his business? The food is WAY WAY DIFFERENT and poor. We've been loyal diners here for almost 20 Years. Sad to say but looking elsewhere moving forward... it has gotten that bad. Love to know if you have experienced the same or similar food over the past 6 months. read more

I love their shrimp and vegetable tempura. I generally will only eat shrimp if it's well cooked hence the tempura. The presentation is beautiful. Food was very disappointing, from the start. Complimentary Won Ton chips was stale. Miso soup was warm and not hot. I was very much anticipating my appetizer order of shrimp and vegetable tempura however was surprised on the lack of presentation and crunch of a traditional tempura. The batter on the vegetables was very different from the shrimp, very heavy and dense especially on the over sized broccoli which held on to the batter which was gummy and pasty to the palate. The shrimp had a different breading. I received 1 smaller which was half the size of the other shrimp. Taste was bland as was the dipping sauce. I was adventurous to order the sashimi platter and asked if the fish was fresh the server said it was. When it was brought to the table I could smell that it was not the freshest fish. Although nicely plated it was not good quality. I ate a few pieces and asked for my check and hot tea to was down the pungent smell. Lesson learned....in a Chinese restaurant stick with the traditional menu. As I wrote this I'm starting to get a belly ache. No one asked why I didn't eat the food nor seemed interested to ask. read more

I'm a local residence in Southbury and have ordered from here before, their food quality used to be much better and less expensive. I just ordered from Oriental gourmet last night 11.11.22 and I'm very disappointed with the low quality of cheap food. The sesame chicken tasted like there was no chicken, in fact whatever was inside didn't even taste like chicken, It taste like fried bread crumbs rolled into a ball with seeds on top, very bad. I had two egg rolls saturated in oil, disgusting without taste. Wonton soup was tasteless. Everything is very experience and not worth returning. I ordered 2 orders and 1 wonton soup and everything was tasteless slapped with an outrageous cost of $40. I don't mind spending good money on food but this wasn't good food. Got takeout here when we were craving it during corona and our normal place (Shing Jet in Oxford) was closed. I had had Oriental Gourmet years ago and remembered it as being great and maybe it just because we're very loyal to Shing Jet, but it just didn't seem to measure up. After going here for many years we've slowly watch the business and the food go downhill. We were there frequently and have always tipped well and considered ourselves loyal customers, Unfortunately this restaurant does not care if you are loyal or not. Twice when we went for sushi they change the price on us charging four dollars more on a few items from the menu including charging us $22 for a spicy tuna roll with asparagus !We have decided to never go back. Also they Chinese food which we do not frequently order was horrific as well. We decided to try Sake /across from Shop Rite and everything is fresh -clean and delicious!!!! Yummy! Being from out of town I took a chance on Apple Siri's recommendation, and I am glad I did. To my delight the food is quality and great tasting. Some prices at first glance seem a little costly, but after you taste their food (I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and General Tso's Chicken combos & Lg Won-Ton soup) you will climb on the "it's all worth it" train. I've been coming here for the last three or four years, as it's an easy and accessible destination right off of 84. I always ordered the same thing: Chicken pad thai, and chicken satay. Not authentic, but their version WAS tasty. The skewers were nice whole slices, with a BBQ coating. They now have no coating, and are three bite size pieces on a skewer. They're tasteless. The pad thai is still good, but the bowl fill decreased by 25 percent. The problem is the price of my order was always the same. Within about 4 or 5 months, it is now 4 dollars more. More money, less food. I know it's difficult for restaurants since the World Economic Forum has set thier plan in place to destroy everything, but I don't feel I can support this business any longer. Maybe I could if those skewers were still delicious, but they're not. read more
