I ordered the lo mein with shrimp five minutes before I arrived, and it was ready incredibly fast. I was extremely hungry, so that was a definite plus. When I walked in, my order was already there. I asked for pickup, went to my car, and immediately ate it because that's what anyone starving would do. The shrimps were cooked perfectly. The only thing was that the sauce sat at the bottom of the noodles and was a bit plain on top, but since the leftovers absorbed all the sauce, it was fine. I recommend that this location update their menu prices, as I thought it would cost around $14 based on old menus, but it actually was $19 a significant difference. read more

Dishonest business! Today specified certain vegetable in my chicken dish, and was not given a receipt. When I walked away and did math, I realized I must have been charged to do this. No food was added, just requested specific veggies in the chicken vegetable dish. I then walked back and asked for them to print receipt to see they charged .75 to make veggie swap! Underhanded! Owner admitted to doing this and to me, this is dishonest when not told upfront. Very sneaky and this is SECOND time they added unexpected charge. I would have been a regular customer but although their food is decent, I would much prefer to give my business to places that do not operate this way! I usually order the sweet and sour chicken and substitute the egg roll with their won ton soup. The chicken always taste fresh and the sauce has good viscosity (not too thick which makes it gooey and not to thin making it runny). Their won ton soup is by far one of the best around. read more

This place just ripped me off. The 3 menus online that that I pulled up all had the same prices and when I paid they over charged me and wouldn't respect the menus online. I do not recommend this place. At least don't go when the Saturday night guys is there. I'm sure if the normal people working there were there then they would have done the right thing and charged me the price I saw online on 3 different menus for this place. The guy even asked me how to get those menus offline and I told him I don't know. What a piece of sh*t. They should have negative stars for their rating. And I just went to eat the crab rangoons and 7 out of 8 of them are all dark brown in the middle and dried out. I wouldn't feed these to a dog. And when I called to tell they said oh that's how they were sent to us and we will get more tomorrow. And they have a weird smell coming from them. They did say I can come tomorrow and get better ones and I ask "but why would you sell these??" And they said because that's how they came. Stay away from this place if you don't want to get sick. We discovered this place on accident while turning around in a nearby parking lot. I didn't go inside, but my husband felt it wasn't very clean- pointing out that there was a large fluorescent light above the front counter covered in bugs. The food was good, though. I really loved the dumplings- exactly what I'd hoped for. Plump, steamed goodness. The shrimp lo mein was good, not fantastic. We tried the crab rangoon as well & it also hit the spot. Cheong Hing Kitchen was bought out around October 2017. The previous owners were there for many years (watched the children grow up and run the place with their dad by their side) and the food was fabulous. We wouldn't eat Chinese food anywhere but Cheong Hing Kitchen. The new owners.... In the beginning, we tried their food a few times and it wasn't so great. I even said I would not go back to eat there again. The ribs had a funny after taste, General Tso's wasn't even spicy, Lo Mein noodles were half cooked and no seasoning, same with the rice, and the soups were too bad to describe. Then I decided to go back. The food here has changed dramatically for the better. Overall, the two dishes I ordered had a nice flavor, including the rice, fried dumplings, crab ragoons, egg rolls, spring rolls, and wonton soup. There are still some kinks that need to be worked out i.e. too much oil in their Hot and Sour Soup. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They do offer free fried donuts which are good, but you must eat them right away otherwise they get stale fast. I believe the owner makes them herself. If you are looking for delivery service they still do not deliver and there is limited seating in the restaurant. Overall, the new owners have big shoes to fill but they seem to be on the right path for now. read more

I -really- wanted to like this place. I read reviews over the summer and finally got around to trying it. I wish I had gone back to read the newest reviews. It seems as if they are under new ownership. I'll do the good first: The owners were SUPER nice. Very friendly. They gave us two free large bags of friend donuts. The Chicken wings were very good, egg roll was ok. Portion amount was good for the price. From the pu-pu platter, the beef teriyaki was ok. The bad: well we ordered two combinations, Lo Mein w/ shrimp and General Tso's Chicken. The Lo Mein noodles had no seasoning. The texture was that of a fresh noodle that hadn't been cooked yet. I had to recook them before I couldn't really eat them. The General Tso's was mostly flour/batter. The fried rice was not great. No flavor, just yellow rice. They also had Chinese steamed dumplings, which I was very excited about. The dough was raw. I would say not even 1/2 cooked. When I went to pick one up, it mushed off of the chicken in the middle (which I wasn't sure was even cooked.) I had to pan fry and steam them myself. Even after that, they still didn't taste good. The fried shrimp were 90% batter and maybe 1/2 a medium shrimp. Again, not cooked long enough. I hope they take these reviews and change up their menu. I read some of the negative reviews but tried it anyway. So glad that I did. Finally, I've found good Chinese take out in the N. Valley. If there was a drop off in quality when the new owners (turns out the nephew bought it from his uncle in '17) took over, they have worked through it now. Lo Mein, General Tsaos chicken, spare ribs, chicken wings, garlic shrimp....all were fantastic. The dumpling dough was a little thick for my taste, but the dipping sauce.....they need to bottle and sell that stuff. This is my Tiang Jiang secret Chinese place since moving to Oxford and in my family we are split over which one is actually better. Right now it seems Cheong has the better lo mein but different dumplings than I'm used to. Great Chicken, and the happy family had everything done perfectly. They have best Wonton Soup, best General Tso, and best Lomein.
