I've grown very fond of this place. It's a regular meeting place for a very close friend and I and the owner, and staff, treat us very well. The owner, Andy, is very gracious and always there when we're there. We usually get the same waiter and he remembers all our favorite stuff now and we don't tell him, he asks us if we'll be having X, Y and Z! We only order to add on, if we're trying something new. I'm a big fan of egg drop soup and crab rangoon. The egg drop soup doesn't have chicken pieces in it like some places do but this is still a very good, basic egg drop soup. Just right if you need to get some in you. And, the crab rangoons always come out wonderfully gold and crispy brown with a nice, big, moist pocket of ricotta-type cheese in the middle. These are so incredibly decadent in a delicious kind of way. ;) The menu is typical Chinese menu fare and you can do the usual ordering without MSG, if that's how you like it... whatever you want, they're very friendly and accomodating. Pork strips are reliable, and the moo-shi, with hoisen sauce is very nicely done and tasty. Late night, there's a few bar patrons, a few more on sports nights but the bar is in a separate room whose entrance is right near the front door so you generally don't hear any loud bar people yakking, or overbearing screams due to "Hail Mary" passes. So, neither will you see any buzzed bar patrons traipsing through the restaurant since the bathrooms, and exit, are right near the bar entrance. Parking is really good. And it's right at Rte 128 so even if you're not from Beverly, it's easy to get to... easy on, easy off. You owe it to yourself to try the crab rangoons... they're SO bad for you!!! Got ill twice from food eaten onsite at this establishment; I gave China Jade a second chance, but no more! Standard full menu: food is just OK but is overpriced. Waitstaff service is nothing special. Ample onsite parking. Restaurant's ambiance is cliche and cold. After placing order, time spent waiting for dinner was excessive; one could get the impression that the establishment was stalling to boost booze sales. Nothing special here at all: patronize another of Beverly's Chinese restaurants, even one offering mainly take-away items. You'll be better off in the long run. read more

Oh China Jade, you should thank me for giving you 2 stars, instead of 1. This place is known to my Korean friends as the diarrhea jade restaurant. This place never fails to give me diarrhea...and I'm Asian eating Asian food....something is wrong for sure. Oh yea, one more reason why I gave 2 stars is that this is one of the few places in the North Shore area where you can dine and chill past midnight. Thank you thank you China Jade. But lets talk about the food. Oh, the soft Italian white bread rolls that comes out burnt on the bottom??? What the heck do they do with the white bread?? Why is it burnt every time? How is it burnt every time? Please answer me... But when you are hungry with friends and it's late night, China Jade is the way to go. Crab Rangoons and few of their noodle dishes are pretty good. The best Chinese food in Beverly! What I like most about China Jade is the atmosphere. I have never been to this restaurant without plenty of people eating and enjoying themselves- good sign for a Chinese restaurant. I really like it here--- we ordered the pu pu plater, which was delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly and there were no peices of meat that grossed me out or made me say "ew". Good sign #2. The service was excellent and we had the same waiter both times and he was extremely polite and attentive to us. Good sign # 3. China jade has been a Beverly fixture for as far as I can remember back in the late 70s. it's never been great Chinese but it was usually good. Then it seemed to get into a cycle of good food starting on Thursday, Fri Sat then craptacular the rest of the week. I am convinced that they reheated the fried rice because it would be SO DRY during the week. Now, it seems to be awful at almost any time, We like to get a variety of dishes so everyone can try each others, but it gets expensive $50 for food that isn't worth it. My husband and I recently tried China Jade for the first time, entirely based upon the Yelp reviews we saw here. For that reason, I felt I should post a negative review here, which I rarely do. Word of caution - this was the WORST Chinese food we have had in a very long time. The sauces are watery. The dishes Kung Pao and General Gau's had no flavor. The only thing that made these dishes edible was dumping spicy mustard over it to add some flavor. Additionally, the crab rangoons, which others rave over here on this page, are primarily pastry and are nothing like normal crab rangoons. It was the worst $35 we've spent on dinner in a long time and we will not be going back. If you want some good food for about the same price, try Spice Thai Kitchen in Ipswich. I got the sense that eating at the restaurant would not have been any better. It was dirty, dark, and smelled. read more

The true test of a Chinese place is how well the leftovers reheat at work the next day, and China Jade has passed that test. I've had take-out and eaten at China Jade once before, but everything was completely unremarkable except for their awesome 1am hours. However, my husband and I decided to go cheap for our anniversary and went here--and the food probably ranked as the first or second-best Chinese meal I've had. We had the pu-pu platter, and the beef teriyaki was huge and cooked well for once, the chicken tenders had an appropriate 70% chicken to 30% breading ratio, the chicken wings were crispy and delicious and the pork fried rice we ordered on the side was definitely the best I've had. I have no clue whether we just ate on a randomly good night, or if our other meals there weren't representative, but China Jade just jumped up five notches in my Chinese restaurant rankings. read more

Good enough to get the job done if you're starvin. Typical 15 minutes or less chinese food. Always an experience , be it good or bad. Drinks are great, once I asked for some drink on the menu and the waitress yelled at me "NO! No one likes that!" She then pointed which drinks I could get and it was like, 6 out of 20 listed. She then yelled at my wife "MOVE!" because her arms were on the table and she wanted to place her plate down. Another time some spaz with a speech impediment was in the booth next to us flipping out because his phone kept ringing. He then answered and threatened to "kill the m- f'er if he ever called back". I lived in Salem 1998/9, originally from NYC but now in San Franciscio...Let me tell you...I MISS EAST COAST CHINESE food! This restaurant and Fantasy Island in Salem have simply delicious traditional chow mein...the mix of celery, onions, sprouts over white rice and crispy noodles. Can't get it in CA.. One of my favorite restaurants! The portions are huge and the prices are excellent. Again, once you get to know the wait staff, it's like eating at a friends house. The people are very nice and will remember you. This is not fancy or gourmet, nor is it meant to be. Just basic old fashioned, delicious traditional Chinese food. Please go and enjoy the meal. Very outdated and smells old inside. The good- Mai Tai was ok. Hot and sour soup and vegetable soup was mediocre. The previous negative reviews of this place seems considerably inconsistent with my experience. I came with my family for dinner on a long weekend. The interior was a deep green with wooden trims and far from dingy. The atmosphere is more dim, but still charming. The food tasted fresh and came in large portions, while the staff were all friendly and accommodating. I would recommend the beef skewers and green beans with beef. read more

Lets start off by saying I am a blessing. So now that We have that out there, lets get started. My buddies and I decided to go get some scorpys at our local chinese food establishment as one does on a Wednesday night. So we roll up to the joint in my dads car. We walk into a warm welcome from the wait staff and we all exchange warm awkward smiles. We decided to sit at the bar instead of the dining room because we really didn't want any food besides maybe the causal rangoon. So we walk into the bar and WOW. If you have ever been in a hockey lockeroom and enjoyed the smell, this is your place. The aroma is a pleasant mix of septic and sweat. A scent only men of great stature can appreciate. Theres no need for music or tv at this bar because you have a local fixture to keep you entertained all night. I don't know which is better, his crazy stories or his shirt that says "Why beer is better than women". Needless to say we appreciate his wisdom. Long story short after a few rounds of scorpies and the occasional FOGCUTTER we were one with China Jade. 10/10 would suggest if you're into the stink ITS FOG CUTTER TIME!! read more

A local Chinese food restaurant that has a nice laid back atmosphere. Wait staff are very friendly, ergo nice you as a "regular" and have been employed for years. Great pupu platters, crispy beef, pan friend soft noodles, crisp aromatic shrimp, crab Rangoon and Peking raviolis. Scorpion bowls are the best around. Still not convinced to come.... The ginger sauce is enough reason alone to come! Absolutely marvelous! One of the top reasons we come! Lately this has been my go to place for Chinese food since it is so close to my house. Though I have been coming here off and on since moving to Beverly 13 years ago, there were periods when I would go more frequent and then periods where I wouldnt go at all. I must admit, the food is really good and at a reasonable price. I give this place only three stars because there are times when I find the staff to be a bit rude and a little slow when it comes to bringing drink refills. I also think that a few staff members tend to hover around after they bring the check to see how much of a tip they're getting, which is something I cant stand. But overall, you get a nice portion of good food for a reasonable price. read more

I just happen to be out in Danvers/ Beverly shopping and stumbled on China Jade. I ate at china Jade last night and the food was horrible. The pictures on the website look appeal but the food was terrible. The food was cooked on the outside but not fully cooked inside. I woke up this morning had diarrhea! I definitely was not happy with the food. All the utensils (knives, forks, spoons) need to be replaced! It seems like they've been in that restaurant since the early 1900's. They were dingy and faded with stains all over them. The whole restaurant needs a Gordon Ramsay make over! I would not recommend! read more

China Jade would get 5 stars if I were blind because the decor hasn't been updated in 30 years and it's not "quaint". That said, GO FOR THE FOOD!!!!!! We had some incredible won-ton soup to start and the very generous bowl was full of flavor, three beautifully cooked won tons and a juicy piece of their famous pork. Awesome. The egg rolls were freshly rolled, lightly fried and hot. Drizzled with the duck sauce, I was rolling my eyes it was so good. Then the crispy shrimp came. It was so good I put it on my "last meal in prison list" (admit it you have one too, the list of foods so orgasmicly good you want then one more time before the firing squad takes you down). The shrimp was fresh, fresh, fresh like a drunken hockey player, yum. We also had some spicy beef with vegetables, cooked perfectly and a rather LARGE plate of chicken fried rice. The platters were of various sizes and heights so the booth table wasn't overly crowded. The booth, Ala 1973 with cheesy shell chandeliers hanging overhead. I used to think this place was so cool when I was a kid burning ribs over the Sterno of a Pu Pu Platter. I'm so over it. Go for the food. The service is awesome too! read more

For Americanized Chinese food, this place is tops in the area. I stress Americanized Chinese. It reminds me of the old school restaurants back in the day. The food is heavy, but tastes great, and I did not get sick from it after I ate. Just one hint of advice, don't look for the menu on Google maps, because there is a link that takes you mistakenly to another restaurant in Peabody with a "Jade" name. read more

I only eat Chinese food in Massachusetts and only at China Jade. I have great memories of this place from growing up and now I'm ever so pleased to find out that it hasn't changed at all! I feel bad giving a 1 star but the food and cleanliness was awful. The food was all terrible, all of it but the service was great, the waitress "Anna" was very friendly. The biggest issue was the bathroom floor was sticky with a pungent urine smell so that's huge to me seeing it makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is, nasty. read more

I would give this place negative stars. Absolutely terrible. As a native Californian, I've been spoiled with great Asian food so I would know what good Chinese food is. People who gave this more than three stars have never had real Chinese food before. All their ingredients tasted not fresh. The "fried rice" is drenched with soy sauce and a few raw slices of onions.
